  1. I’m not into complaining too much about umpiring, but that was the worst call I have ever seen. The plate is totally blocked off and the runner has to slide through the glove and leg of Kratz and he is somehow called safe. Even after reviewing it, they still got it wrong.
  2. Polanco was 2-2 with a walk in his career against Jennings... And he is brought in to face Polanco. I understand playing matchups such as lefty against lefty, but at some point you need to actually look at basic statistics and not overthink a situation.
  3. I don’t see the Brewers going to a 6 man rotation if they acquired Harvey. It wouldn’t make sense to take away a couple starts from Chacín down the stretch. He has been fantastic this season and taking any starts away from him would not be a wise decision. We missed the playoffs by 1 game last year. A similar result could occur if you decide to take starts away from your best starter. If any move were to happen, I could see Guerra being the odd man out. He has not been nearly as sharp his last 7 starts, going a total of 37 innings and giving up 25 earned runs. Chacín and Anderson need to be on the hill every 5th day. You may even see both of them pitch on 3 days rest the last couple weeks to push the Brewers into the playoffs if they are a game or two back.
  4. Kershaw has an opt out after this season. If he decides to opt out, he would leave 2 years and $65 million on the table. I personally think that he will opt out, but won’t get a deal where he will make $33 million per season, especially because of his injury history the past few season, including a couple back issues. But I could see him getting a long term deal at a lesser amount per season. He will be 31 before next season as well and he probably wants to get one more big contract. I would guess something around 6 years, $175 million.
  5. Matt Adams and Daniel Murphy were traded to 2 of the 3 NL Central playoff contenders in the Cardinals and Cubs respectively. The only other logical trade would be Bryce Harper to the Brewers!
  6. You can’t just throw out a bunch of names and ages and declare the rotation to be a strength. Davies has been horrible this year, even when he was healthy. Nelson is still a major unknown due to his significant shoulder injury. Hader, until were told otherwise, is a reliever. Peralta is a back end of the rotation starter. Burnes is an unknown as he’s never started a game before. I’m sorry but I’m not ready to proclaim the rotation a strength. Not even close in fact. It’s more of a major unknown than anything. This team needs a few things. A top of rotation starter. A new hitting coach. A guy that can get on base and play either catcher or Shortstop. I assume Schoop and Soria will be back because Soria can be a major asset and I really don’t see a better option at second base than Schoop. I really think they should consider hiring a manager with playoff experience as well. Counsell is fine but after back to back collapses I really question if he is the man for the job. The main point of the ages was to show the youth on the team and how they have the opportunity to improve over the next few years. The team is young and is showing potential. You don’t see a strong rotation of Anderson, Chacín, Davies, Nelson, and a mix of Peralta, Burnes, Hader, or Woodruff filling in? I see a ton of potential for next season. Anderson continues to be solid, Chacín is doing what he’s done since he’s been in the majors, Davies has been very good so far in his young career, Nelson has turned a corner and will hopefully come back strong. Even if Nelson doesn’t come back, I feel very comfortable putting in two of Peralta, Burnes, Hader if Stearns decides to go that route, or Woodruff. The young guys need a chance to be successful. They have proven it over the years in the minors and need the opportunity to show what they got. I see Burnes and Peralta as being big contributors next season. Using young, inexperienced players is part of the rebuild to build toward a competitive team. They need to do it at some point because the Brewers can’t afford to buy every player. The rotation will be fine next season with who they have even if they don’t go out and get anyone.
  7. There is a ton of hope for the future. The rotation next year is not going to be anything like what it is now. The rotation next year will have Nelson and Davies back in addition to Anderson and Chacín. Burnes and Peralta can both be in the rotation as well. Hader is also an option to be in the rotation next year. You have Davies for 3 years still, Burnes and Peralta for 6 years, and Hader for 5. The starting rotation will be a strength next season. Davies is 25, yes only 25, Hader 24, Burnes 23, Peralta 22. The bullpen next season will have at least 1, if not more of these guys in the bullpen. Hader May remain out there as a nasty weapon. Then you can look at having Jeffress, Soria, Knebel, Jennings, and hopefully a healthy Albers back out in the pen. The bullpen will be good again next season. Looking at the offense, Yelich, Cain, and Aguilar are all here for 4 more years. Two guys that can hit .300 for you and the third is a borderline MVP candidate. Shaw is here for 3 more years and can hit .250 with 30 home runs for you any given year. The core pieces are already here. Shaw, Aguilar, and Yelich are all 28 or younger and still have their prime years coming up. Schoop is only 26 as well and will be a big boost once he break out. Braun will be back next season and will continue to produce like he always has. Saying that we are not a young team is so far off. Every core piece to our success this season is either just entering their prime or WELL before they reach their prime years. The main difference between us and other contenders is that we STILL are not getting production out of the 5-9 or 6-9 spots in the order. Other teams have players in those spots in the order that might only hit .220, but will hit 15 homeruns. Or a guy that will hit .270 with little power. We have guys that hit .210 AND have no power. That is not a good combination. This team is VERY young and will continue to take steps forward. The injuries this year is what hurt us the most. I am disappointed in how they have been playing recently as well, but better days are coming. This season and for many years to come.
  8. That was an easy challenge that would have gotten the call overturned. I don’t understand why they didn’t challenge that.
  9. Miley looks locked in, WOW. Everything working for him so far.
  10. Lyles is a 5 pitch pitcher with a different curveball that he didn’t start throwing until last season. His curveball is pretty nasty now and he’s throwing it 7 mph faster than he did before. He also throws his fastball in the mid 90’s. He is a guy who has great stuff and might only need a little refining to be pretty dominant.
  11. I feel like Schoop will come out and get a couple hits tonight. The walk-off win last night and celebrating with the guys could really help him get comfortable and feel right at home.
  12. We have the two hottest hitters in baseball in Schoop and Yelich, an MVP candidate in Aguilar, one of the most consistent players all year in Cain, and Braun has been smoking the ball lately as well. I feel like we have a chance to win every game we play right now. This lineup is going to bust out in a big way soon.
  13. If you win, I’ll get you ice cream AND a cookie!
  14. Gio Gonzalez is a guy who could do wonders for the rotation down the stretch. He would be a guy that I would feel comfortable with in a Wild Card game or using in a playoff series a couple times. He has playoff experience and can be a big difference maker for us. Pairing him with DJ could really bring out the best in him.
  15. The offense is revitalized with the Moustakas acquisition, Yelich is staying unbelievably hot, and Braun is breaking out and will have a big second half to help lead the Crew on a long winning streak down the stretch!
  16. Stearns has done a fantastic job building this team. I don’t see how you feel like he’s leaving Counsell and Johnson out to dry. Anderson, Chacin, Davies, Guerra, Suter for the rotation. That was with thinking Nelson was returning and Peralta would be coming up mid-season. Bullpen of Hader, Knebel, Albers, Jeffress among others. Possible lineup to start the year: Cain Yelich Braun/Aguilar/Thames Shaw after his breakout season Santana after his monster season Pina after a great year Arcia after a great year Villar/Perez I really did not see any glaring hole to start the year. You can’t predict all the injuries or multiple players that took a major step backwards. Stearns has done as well as any of us could of hoped.
  17. I haven’t really seen it mentioned yet, but the Brewers already do a ton of shifting so I could definitely see Shaw staying to play second base this season and switching back over to third base after the season. There are times every game where Shaw is playing shortstop. There are other times where he is shifted over as the third infielder on the right side of the infield. I understand the concerns about his range, but I think Arcia was brought back up to be the ball hawk for this defense and move all over the infield. As it was all season, Shaw would move over from third and play near second base for lefty pull hitters. For righty pull hitters, Shaw will play up the middle like he does for lefty pull hitters as it is. I can’t recall Shaw making many mistakes during the extreme shifts that the Brewers do frequently throughout the game. Arcia would be used as the guy in shallow right field on the extreme shifts for lefty pull hitters, where our traditional second baseman would be. Then Shaw gets shifted to his all too familiar place playing up the middle as the third infielder on the right side. I could see the Brewers being successful using Arcia as the guy moving into the position requiring the most range for each specific batter. With Stearns being an analytics guy and with all of the shifting the Brewers already do, I’m confident that he and the coaching staff will adjust players accordingly on defense, possibly in a way that we have not seen before, to put them in the best position to make plays and be successful.
  18. I am guessing the cash considerations is to help pay part of his salary for next season.
  19. I feel that Hader should get at least one inning tonight regardless of the score. Getting him back on the mound as quick as possible would be beneficial for him.
  20. I just have a feeling that the Brewers have the best offer and did the entire time, but the Orioles kept releasing “updates” to try to get Stearns to up his offer.
  21. Jesus Aguilar gets in on the final vote! Well deserved and very excited for him! He has earned it!
  22. What players would the Orioles have interest in that they could realistically get from the Brewers in a trade for Machado? Thames, Perez, and Villar are the few that stand out to me. Thames probably makes the most sense since the Orioles could really use a first baseman. My guess would be Nottingham. Good call, he would be a solid piece in a trade.
