  1. Boy would I dislike this. I would hate this move a lot. Me too. Not trading a 24-year-old future stud infielder (who has already proven to be an asset at the MLB level) for a broken down 3B. I don't care how recognizable his name is.
  2. I totally get where you are coming from. I'm a former lifeguard and summer camp aquatics director, and I cannot stress enough the importance of getting kids into swimming lessons. Because I've seen plenty of near drownings, and assisted in the aftermath of a drowning death. It is excruciating for everyone involved. I cannot imagine what it is like on a parent. My 12, 10 and 8-year olds are all very strong swimmers, and we regularly have my 6 and 4-year-olds in lessons. But we live in an area of northern Wisconsin where there is a lake around every corner, and we have a large pond less than 100 yards behind our house. It's always been a priority for us to make sure the kids are comfortable around and can navigate the water. Sure, odds are that if your kids are never strong swimmers, they likely will not be involved in a drowning incident. They are rare. But all it takes is one time. I urge you to continue to take the necessary precautions to avoid it by getting those kids swimming. Good work having them in lessons so far.
  3. The power has been out at my house for the last 36 hours following Monday evening's storms. Family life has been a little rough as a result. I so needed the huge belly laugh that you have provided this morning. Thank you!
  4. If you can get a big bat without giving up too much, I'm all for it (and I assume everyone's for it). What are some specific bats you'd like the Brewers to target and what specific assets would you be okay with them giving up for those bats? Seconded. I would like to know this as well.
  5. Uggh… Reyes is the new Jace Peterson. I would gladly take a .770 OPS from a utility infielder
  6. 100% He better be taking a massive pay cut. Otherwise this makes zero sense.
  7. Between this and Frazier now playing in San Diego, this makes me happy. Can they hurry up and trade Moran and Newman while they're at it?
  8. Tom @Haudricourt Yelich being vaccinated is likely why he experienced "mild symptoms" and nothing worse. Medical experts say vaccines don't guarantee not being infected but in nearly all cases prevent hospitalization and death. Nothing else to say but that this is 100% spot on.
  9. How would mortgaging your future for a bunch of "all-in" moves not be considered "hope", though. I think you are focusing on the wrong word there. All these strategies have different levels of hope tied to them.
  10. Perhaps not. But operating conservatively in an effort to give yourself as many bites at the apple as possible most definitely is.
  11. The assumption that Rodgers will continue playing at an MVP level into his 40s is an enormous leap IMO. We really need to stop treating Tom Brady as the norm.
  12. It will also be a team that he has had contact with and wants to play for. He won't necessarily have free will to pick his own landing spot, but it will just about be the case. Obviously he isn't going to end up in the NFC North. But Aaron Rodgers as a brand is worth nearly as much as Aaron Rodgers as a player, so some team will pay a premium for him. Of course, perhaps he'll simply decide to hang it up if they win the Super Bowl. Yes, he's said he wants to play into his 40s, but he's also a guy who is going to have plenty of opportunities to do other things following his playing career.
  13. Exactly. There's been plenty of finger pointing the last two offseasons. Why would this year be any different? Perhaps it will be amplified knowing that this could be Rodgers' last year in green and gold, but if they don't make the Super Bowl, I suspect that many fans will be more comfortable with the changes coming. Now at least they have time to prepare for it.
  14. Please define "badly" I, for one, am happy that there is now a logical endpoint to all this crap. It could end very badly. Like, disappointing 8-8 season, terrible clubhouse chemistry, constant internal strife and distractions, Rodgers booed frequently on his home field, mockery from opposing teams and fans, etc. Or it could be a non-issue the whole season. I really don't know. But I wouldn't assume that everything is great now. I mean, of course. But all that could theoretically happen had there been no "drama" this offseason. Maybe not the "Rodgers booed" part, but pretty much everything else. Nah, it is obvious that there is some internal strife. But I also expect Rodgers to have a pretty big chip on his shoulder, and try to play out of his mind this year as a result.

  16. …. Or perhaps the demands were truly horrible for the Brewers? What if the Rockies asked for Hader in return for Story? Brewers inquire, Rockies put out a huge demand, no deal is made. I’d bet that’s how 80% of phone calls go this week. Not ‘gun shy’ at all. But I already said it's not like they will have to give up one of the 3 pitchers(Woody, Burnes, Peralta) or any other untouchables in the deal(Hader is in this category). But you also bring up another point..I can totally see Stearns and co doing this...they call the Rockies about Story, Rockies say "it will take Hader". Brewers say "okay thank you" and move on, rather then even engaging them in real negotiations to see if they can come to some sort of an agreement on terms both can agree with. You can't just hang up and figure the cost is too expensive, without even trying to negotiate. That's being gun shy. Again, I can totally see Stearns and co doing this in some situations. So you have completely fabricated a scenario in your head, complete with dialogue, simply to get mad at the team for something you think might be happening? Whoa Nelly, that's a new one!
  17. Counsell has done some crazy stuff defensively over the years, but two centerfielders is pretty novel, even for him.
  18. A bit more context would certainly be appreciated.
  19. Frazier has 10+BWAR to his name and over 2 this year. Nothing about that says average. I think you are selling Marcano short a bit as a prospect, too. Ranking #5 in the Padres' stacked system is no small feat. Marcano would likely be #1 or #2 in the Brewers' system (ahead of Turang). He's legit. Turang is in the top 80 MLB prospects while Marcano is not. So no he would not be #1(Mitchell) or #2. Turang is a good prospect, but much of his "top 80 MLB prospect" status is due to where he was drafted. You typically don't debut in the majors as a 21-year-old, especially for a good team like the Padres, unless you are a legit MLB prospect.
  20. Whoa, shouldn't Rodgers have first informed the people who would be effected by this? I'm not sure how anyone could take what Bakh is saying as anything other than sarcasm.
  21. I guess Twitter needs a "blue filter" for sarcasm too.
  22. I think you are selling Marcano short a bit as a prospect, too. Ranking #5 in the Padres' stacked system is no small feat. Marcano would likely be #1 or #2 in the Brewers' system (ahead of Turang). He's legit. Marcano isn't a bad prospect but I'd still say Turang is the better prospect of the two. Baseball America has Turang with a 60 hit tool and 40 power versus 50 and 30 for Marcano. Speed and defense are identical. I too prefer MLB pipeline or BA to fangraphs ratings. Turang had his draft status going for him and initially inflated his prospect rating. A guy like Marcano who signed a modest international FA deal is starting substantially lower on the prospect totem pole. It is certainly worth noting that Marcano is only roughly 2 months older than Turang, yet already has 50 MLB plate appearances on his ledger.
  23. MLB Pipeline is much more bullish on him, ranking him at #5 with a 50 future value. So in that case, Marcano and two prospects (definitely not lottery tickets in the understood use of that term) seems better. In the end, its in the eye of the beholder. I personally have always viewed MLB Pipeline as more accurate on prospect value than Fangraphs.
