  1. I think it's from an analytical standpoint - college hitters are least likely to flame out at the lower levels of the minors. HS arms/bats are most risky. I also think they lean toward position players because of their pitching lab and the belief that they can develop pitching. We haven't developed any position players yet under Stearns. Hopefully Mitchell pans out but we regularly field an everyday lineup with no players drafted by the Brewers. Brewers drafted prospects were directly used to acquire Yelich, Adames and Urias, and indirectly led to the acquisition of Tellez. They have used those guys as currency to acquire long-term pieces. That isn't a bad thing.
  2. Just an observation, but by the way so many here fawn over the Reds, you'd think this is a Reds fan site. It isn't new, either. Been that way for years.
  3. Right! Sure is a good thing they did what you wanted and cut bait on Avi Garcia last year!
  4. Cowser seems to have very similar body frame, measurables and offensive profile to Garrett Mitchell, albeit with more power. Appears that Mitchell is more of a natural centerfielder, though, while Cowser is decent enough out there, but may not stick long-term. Cowser also apparently has the ability to play 3B, which is interesting. He really does seem like the type of player the Brewers would draft if given the opportunity. Very athletic dude with an elite bat. If you’re right about Cowser, I wouldn’t mind seeing him take a reverse Braun route. The more talent we accumulate at corner IF, the better. He played 20 games at 3B in 2019 for Sam Houston State. Doesn't necessarily mean he's got the defensive chops to play there as a pro, but might at least be worth looking into. He probably profiles long-term as a toolsy corner outfielder, though.

  6. Catchers are some of the toughest people on earth. Took a 89 mph slider flush in the bare hand. Ouch!
  7. I have to admit, after the beating that both Garcia and Narvaez took on this board all last year and the past offseason, it makes me very happy to see both playing well this season. It's almost as if the results attained during 60 games played in front of no fans during a pandemic shouldn't be taken as the gospel regarding who a player really is. Who would have thought?
  8. Reds offense is dangerous. Reds starting pitching is ok. Reds relief pitching is ... well ... a flaming bag of dog poo on the front doorstep.
  9. Better yet, the kid looks like he's t-ball/coach-pitch age. Why isn't dad getting out of the car and helping coach?
  10. Thankfully these projections are based on logic and career numbers, and not 130 rough plate appearances. Tellez has always hit. He hit in the minors. He hit as a rookie call-up in 2018. He hit (albeit not as well, although HR numbers were good) in a longer audition in 2019. He hit very well last year. You are seeing something negative that you apparently want to see with him that the numbers and projections simply don't support. I don't think a 752 OPS at AAA and under 800 in his minor league career constitutes as a "hitter". As I mentioned previously, he did well the last two years (over 1.000 OPS), but when I look at his MiLB career, I don't see a hitter profile. He does OK, but we have AAAA players hitting 900-1000 OPS at AAA, but can't hit a lick at the MLB level. Saying he has "always" hit is not correct. A late bloomer, perhaps. His minor league numbers are bogged down by a poor full 2017 season. Otherwise the stats are acceptable if not good. Nothing eye-popping, but solid.

  12. I really hope that the brewers get a corner IF early in the draft. Im not normally a big position guy in the MLB draft but the only way to stop having to get guys like Tellez or signing big $ FA's is to develop your own and they have shown no interest in doing that since Prince The failures of Lucas Erceg and Jake Gatewood have been tough. Those are two guys who were drafted high and should have been penciled in as 1B/3B of the future types.
  13. If anything, it's managed to keep the "ZOMG Grisham is a star, Stearnz is soooo dumbbb!!!" contingent a little more quiet lately.
  14. Once again, for those REALLY in the back ... HADER IS THE CLOSER It's the job he wants, and he's really good at it. In fact, despite yesterday's result, he's the best one in MLB at it. And yes, that role entails pitching one inning at a time. He's stated, over and over, that it is what he prefers, rather than being deployed for multiple innings and being down for 2-3 days at a time. He's never, ever going to be used the way he was in 2017-18 again. Yes, the Brewers have made decisions in the past that have made him unhappy. Those have been front office decisions, not usage decisions. CC and Hader seemingly have a very good relationship. What are you trying to point out here?
  15. Cousins, Sanchez and Strickland simply haven't pitched enough to go through a cold spell. It will happen, though. It happens to 99.9% of all relievers, and none of those guys is special enough to avoid it.
  16. Dang it, logical and well-thought-out criticisms of the manager have no place here! (for the record, I agree with this completely)
  17. Not really clones. From what it sounds like, Tellez has a low strikeout rate. I think there's a good chance they they both are on the team next year. Vogelbach DH/1b, Tellez DH/1b, Hiura 1b/DH/utility OF/2b I would bet big money that there is no way both are on the roster next season and it wouldn't surprise me if neither one is. Tellez probably will be given a long leash because we traded assets for him but I'm not expecting much if anything from him. This first base situation is atrocious for a contending team. Or, you know ... we could try giving the guy a chance before we write him off as garbage. You do you, though.
  18. I guess it needs to be repeated again for those in back. HADER IS THE CLOSER It's the job he wants, and he's really good at it. In fact, despite today's result, he's the best one in MLB at it. 19. I think it has gotten to the point where I assume that every post you make is done sarcastically. It's the "When in Rome" corollary. The funny thing is this post wouldn't even make the Top 10 outlandish IGT posts today, and most of those were written non-sarcastically.
