  1. This article makes A LOT of assumptions. Like you mention, Mayo may not have even been available, especially for one year of a pitcher. Also, while there is a lot to like with Mayo, he's likely not going to be able to play 3B at an MLB level, which means he's either a 1B or DH long term. Ortiz has the glove to stick at SS, a much more valuable defensive position.
  2. I don't know Bauer. But there are literally hundreds of articles out there that call his character into question completely separate of the sexual predator allegations. I am not against the Brewers acquiring players with strong, sometimes unlikable personalities. If they contribute to the team's overall success, it can work. However, you typically need a strong clubhouse with solid veteran leadership to overcome potential chemistry issues, and I'm just not sure at this juncture if the Brewers really have that. Other than Yelich, Adames and Hoskins, this team is trending very young, and that makes the apple cart typically a little more unstable,
  3. Awesome development for MLB baseball in general.
  4. True that Bauer was acquitted. Regardless, he's pretty well known for being a Grade A prick, though. Of course, so is Josh Donaldson, and he seemed to fit into the clubhouse fine last year.
  5. LHP Robert Gasser is probably the best bet to hit the rotation first. RHP Jacob Misiorowski has what may be the best fastball on all of the minor leagues. Carlos Rodriguez looks close to being ready. Bradley Blalock may get a look. Coleman Crow. DL Hall is obviously going to be given every opportunity to make the rotation. Evan McEndry is a guy who might surprise too.
  6. The hyperbole is certainly running rampant the last couple days. It's almost as if trading Burnes signifies that the team will now be run like the Pirates, and not like the team that has become known for making quality pitchers out of has beens and never wases. Burnes has been excellent. No doubt about that. But he was always only a piece of the overall puzzle. Many of the other pieces are still in place, as is the organizational foundation to create replacement pieces for those lost.
  7. Why is the emphasis here, though, on Oakland making a bad deal, instead of the Brewers making a good one? I get that your crazy troll schtick is to crap on everything the Brewers do, but this is over the top, even for you.
  8. While I'd prefer him in a super-sub role, Andruw Monasterio showed enough last season, albeit perhaps under the radar, to warrant consideration for an increased role as well.
  9. Agreed. Mitchell is very much the Brewers' version of Christian Watson. He has the ability and talent to be the best player on the field. But staying on the field is obviously a huge concern. He's a 5-tool talent, though, so it would be very tough to give up on an uber-talented 25-year-old.
  10. Yep. The worry was that swapping Jrue for Dame would be sacrificing defense, and that has come to fruition in a big way. When Dame isn't scorching hot, the Bucks are hurting, because the defense is so terrible that they can't stay with anyone. Other than Bobby, no one on that bench is a threat to put the ball in the basket, either.
  11. This has been challenged by multiple reporters more "in the know" than Thamel. Silverstein said that pretty much all of it is crap.
  12. I believe it would be a mistake for the Packers to hastily make a decision because they feel forced to. There are plenty of high-end DC options out there. Do your homework, and let the chips fall.
  13. Pretty sure they could have swung that. Either they showed interest and it wasn't reciprocated, or they figured that it wasn't worth the risk, even at that relatively bargain price.
  14. Yep ... there are guys every year who, while being top-ranked players, you can kind of pinpoint as not really being Packer types. Huge road-grading O-linemen are not really the types of players the Packers grab. They like mobility and flexibility. Fuaga is 100% the type of O-lineman they avoid. That doesn't mean he's a bad player. Just that they feel he isn't a great fit for their scheme.
  15. Fair enough. But saying Topa is "way better" is also an exaggeration. Wilson's age also helps his value. I would guess that in the eyes of most MLB GMs, Bryce Wilson's numbers last year, his young age, along with his pedigree as a one-time top prospect give him more trade value than Justin Topa.
  16. Orr is interesting. Very young for a coach at only 31. Undrafted free agent in 2014 who worked his way into a starting role with the Ravens and was a 2nd team All-Pro in 2016 before being forced to retire due to a congenital spinal condition. He also has a Wisconsin connection, as his youngest brother, Chris, was a star MLB at Wisconsin.
  17. I could see a one-year value deal on someone like Mike Clevinger, Michael Lorenzen or Jake Odorizzi. Brad Keller would be more of an upside play in the hope that some time in the pitching lab can fix his control issues. Of course, there are still the "baggage" guys like Trevor Bauer and Julio Urias, too. They would obviously have to really do their homework if they went that route.
  18. Bryce Wilson is 7 years younger than Justin Topa, and put up better numbers last year. Topa had a good year last year, but "way better" is probably an exaggeration. And given Wilson's age and multiple years of cheap control, his value is likely substantially higher.
  19. Tim Anderson? That would be an intriguing signing. To play 3B?
  20. Take anything from "Wisconsin Sports Heroics" with an enormous grain of salt. Far, far from a legit news source.
  21. If you look at Chapman's numbers, he is a little overrated IMO. He's had some good seasons, but they were awhile ago. He's pretty average offensively now. But what he does provide is Gold Glove-calibur defense and decent power, albeit with a low batting average and a lot of swing-and-miss. He's pretty similar to where Moustakas was when the Brewers acquired him, at least offensively. Better defensively, obviously.
  22. It'll be February at the end of the week, and we are reaching the time when the Brewers typically get active in free agency. Perhaps Hoskins is just the start? Other potential fits include: 3B Matt Chapman - probably will be too pricey, but we really haven't heard much on him, and he's coming off a down year. DH Jorge Soler - Power threat that would bring another big bat to the lineup. Could also play in the corner OF. RP Drew Pomeranz - Because he was awesome as a Brewer, and I'm a sucker.
  23. Agreed. The Brewers took major fallout both internally and externally when they dealt Hader at the deadline a couple years ago while sitting in 1st place. I highly doubt that they will make a similar move with Burnes. And signing Hoskins was very much a "we intend to be in the playoff hunt" move.
