  1. Wow ... 49ers going the "who needs draft picks?" route, while the Dolphins are gonna have one heck of a talent base in a few years. Gotta think that the Niners are targeting Trey Lance at #3
  2. Snyder's cut was ok. Better than the original monstrosity, but that was a pretty low bar to clear. My biggest gripe is is seems like Snyder forgot he was directing a comic book movie. A lot of that flick took itself WAY too seriously. I could certainly do without the Whedon-isms, but a movie based on pop culture superheroes should be way more fun in my opinion. A huge part of the charm of the old Chris Reeve Superman flicks was the humanity Reeve and humor Reeve naturally added to the role. That is missing with the Justice League actors, other than a little bit with Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller.
  3. Wouldn't be a platoon. Regular starting OF would be Yelich/Cain/Bradley. Taylor would just make the team as the 4th/5th OFer then.
  4. Kevin King's contract comes with a 2021 cap hit of $1,887,500 and a 2022 dead cap of $3,000,000 for the Green Bay Packers. Pretty reasonable, considering.
  5. Its ok for people to disagree. I personally didn't see any denial, though. No big deal. I see lots of denial, acting like Cain will not be an injury concern the next 2 seasons. Acting like he hasn't already been an injury concern is also denial. Again, no big deal, discussions sometimes get this way when people, including myself, pick a hill to die on. If he plays half our games this season, I will be shocked. I still hope he has his best season ever, but that ain't happening. And multiple posters now have asked you directly what your solution would be to this perceived issue, yet you've seemingly chosen to ignore those queries. In the end, when the Brewers signed Cain to that 5-year deal, it was almost assuredly with the idea that he would be a star for the first two years, and anything he provided after that would be gravy. Well, he was definitely a star in 2018, and while his offense wasn't as stellar in 2019, his defense was top notch, to the point of winning a Gold Glove. He was also pretty durable in his first two seasons as a Brewer, playing in 141 and 148 games. Year 3 was obviously wiped out by COVID and his opt-out, which isn't all a bad thing because the Brewers didn't have to pay him. It remains to be seen what he has left in the tank, but I don't think anyone is expecting him at this point to be the Lorenzo Cain we saw in 2018. The the team has mitigated that by going out and signing another Gold-Glove level defender in Jackie Bradley Jr. But why would he suddenly be an extreme injury concern now? Just because he gives off the body language of an old man, it doesn't mean he's on death's doorstep. He acted the same way with the Royals in his 20s. It's just who he is. I mean, where is the denial there? I simply don't understand what your complaint is here.
  6. He could have told the team "give me a bump in pay, or I'm done." I imagine a 37-year-old TE has a lot of wear and tear on his body, and he's likely made enough where he could comfortably retire. Apparently the Packers valued his role in the offense and the locker room enough to not only coax him back, but give him a nice raise. He seems like a good dude, has a huge amount of respect in the locker room, and has a pretty important role in the offense despite his age. I don't have any issue with this. So let him walk. He's ancient and plays a minimal role in the offense. Not the kind of guy who you can let hold you hostage for a nearly 100% raise as a 4th TE. There's times when tough business decisions just need to be made even for guys that you like. You've got Tonyan back and DeGuara will play a role this year and you still have some promise with Sternberger. There's just no need for this at 4M. If it's 2.1M, fine. I'm going to assume at this point that either the 2.1 figure is correct or the 4M includes some sort of guarantee which is actually *not* guaranteed like a roster bonus for 2022. He played over 400 snaps last year, so I'd disagree that his role was minimal, despite not catching a lot of balls. If any of those other guys were above-average blockers, he might be expendable, but they are all more receiving TEs, even though Tonyan has apparently improved his blocking.
  7. He could have told the team "give me a bump in pay, or I'm done." 8. I imagine your suspicions will prove correct. Apparently only $4 million is guaranteed, so I'm guessing a cap number of $2-2.5 million again. Kicking a little more money down the road. I know that the cap is likely to increase for 2022, but it appears that they are looking at quite a bit of reckoning at the end of next season.
  9. Packers re-sign Marcedes Lewis. It appears they are serious about getting pretty much the whole gang back together. Makes pretty substantial sense considering how well the team played last season, and how well it seemed to gel both on the field and off considering the circumstances.
  10. Its ok for people to disagree. I personally didn't see any denial, though.
  11. The issue is, in this case at least, "market value" is 100% subjective. The streamers had no problem paying for them when they were owned by Fox. These issues didn't crop up en masse until Sinclair got involved.
  12. Interesting. Thanks for the inside info! Zimmermann is a fun story this spring, but those injuries have just seemingly sapped too much of the great stuff he used to have. It would be nice to have him available in the minors, as having pitchers capable of throwing multiple innings is going to be important this year. Hear anything on Boxberger?
  13. The first wave of NFL free agency is pretty much done, and while many fans are bemoaning the fact that the Packers have sat out the "sign other team's players to big money deals" portion of the process, there are still a mess of players out there who make sense as Packer targets should they be able to free up enough salary cap money to make a splash or two. These are the guys I like: WR/RB/KR Cordarrelle Patterson - Wouldn't be a huge money guy, but he'd be the perfect fit for this offense as the designated "jet motion" guy. He's also a very dangerous kick and punt returner, and would likely be more durable that Tyler Ervin. T Eric Fisher - Coming off a torn achilles, but should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. Could fill the LT role until Bahktiari is ready, then either go to RT or play the swing tackle role. T Dennis Kelly - Another solid NFL tackle who would be a nice depth signing. DT Jurrell Casey - He was a house of fire for a long time with the Titans, but was injured most of last year with the Broncos. He's 32, so might be too old for anything more than a 1-year deal. DT Christian Covington - Nothing real special about him, but he's only 27, and has played some decent football. Strikes me as the type of guy Gute would pursue. ILB K.J. Wright - Another older free agent, but if they are looking for a leader and tone-setter, he would be a good pickup. CB Steven Nelson - Solid boundary CB who would allow Jaire to shadow other team's top receivers a bit more, or even play the slot CB role that is a huge part of Barry's defensive philosophy.
  14. The funny thing is if you do that, you still have people complaining that "there they go again, investing big money in an underachieving defense, while letting the offensive talent around Rodgers walk." The Packers' front office is truly in a no-win scenario with some fans.
  15. No team can afford to put "good" at every position, though. King has the ability to be a league-average, serviceable CB, and a cheap deal like this makes sense for a team that has little depth at that position. I fully expect them to draft a corner early next month, and this move allows them to not have to throw that rookie immediately into the fire.
  16. Is it really that much of a stretch that people think this team is going to be solid this year?
  17. I'm not real sure what is unbelievable about this. This type of move is right in the wheelhouse of the type of thing the Brewers have done in recent years.
  18. Herman is right. King is a decent starting CB when healthy. But is currently drenched in the stink of the worst game of his career on the biggest stage. Hopefully he'll use it as motivation to come out and have a good yeaer.
  19. That $6 million number was likely a figure leaked by his agent, and would be the max he can make should every incentive be reached. Never believe the first contract number that is leaked this time of year.
  20. Hiura and Yelich back-to-back off of Walker Buehler is nice. Now Narvaez as well!
  21. I was glad to read that as well. I'm excited to see what a fully healthy Urias can do. It sounds to me like SS may turn out to be sort of a "hot hand" situation this year, at least early on. Hopefully Urias seizes control right away and doesn't give it up. That would mean he's productive. We've seen some flashes of what he could be ... time to find the consistency.
  22. Darnell Savage and Jaire Alexander say hey. Yeah, if there is one position where a rookie pick can make an almost immediate impact, it would be at DB, specifically at CB. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them go CB in round 1. In this case, the "recent history" he is referring to is likely the 2020 draft, or perhaps the Gary selection in 2019. But if they draft a CB in rounds 1 or 2 this year, I would expect that player to get substantial snaps.
  23. The issue with that approach, though, is that "on-paper" improvements are almost 100% hypothetical. That's why no one cares which team "won" March once the actual games begin in September. Sure, adding proven talent can help increase a team's odds to a point, but there's just too many variables that come into play to say definitively that the moves a team makes in March free agency can tilt a game that won't happen until next January.
  24. This you? He has done all that he can to earn a spot, and yet, he is probably going to be the odd man out. Instead, we will keep an old man who is past his prime, body failing, just because we owe him another 30 million on what everyone knew was going to be a bad contract in years 3-5. Luckily we got out of paying him in year 3. I mean, if you aren't suggesting releasing Cain here, what exactly are you suggesting?
