  1. Plan was always to play him at the beginning of camp, back off at the midpoint, then ramp things back up.
  2. Right on. Thanks for clarifying. Sorry for my obvious misinterpretation.
  3. Doubt the Packers could have taken on his $10 million cap hit. They will be able to make some moves, but if they are going to take on a hit like that, the guy better be more of a difference maker than Brockers is.
  4. Agreed. Good opportunity to get his feet wet on the broadcasting/media side. I think something like this has been a pretty logical next step for him for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me to see his role and reach increase as he gets more comfortable.
  5. Factoring in the tenders and the actual number for Jones, they're at about -$2.3 million, NOT factoring in Turner's restructure (because there's NO info out there on what was actually done). If that was a restructure of the full possible amount, they're basically at the cap. To reiterate the point above, a Davante extension and a Rodgers restructure would give them $24 million to use on actual free agents, which is crazy. According to Tom Silverstein, the Packers reduced Turner's cap number by $3.56 million. So they are now under. Simply incredible.
  6. A 2021 cap hit of $4,475,000, and a 2022 cap hit of $9,000,000. Russ Ball is extremely good at his job. Good, good stuff. Doesn't crunch the cap in either of the next two years, and basically made this a 2-year deal as some thought. What this does is create flexibility for the Packers to make additional moves this offseason in what is going to be a pretty big buyers' market. Z. Smith's restructure gets them extremely close to, if not just under the cap, and they still have restructure/extension options with Davante and Rodgers that would enable them to clear a big portion of cap if they do pursue some of the "all-in" moves the fanbase is craving.
  7. A 2021 cap hit of $4,475,000, and a 2022 cap hit of $9,000,000. Russ Ball is extremely good at his job.
  8. According to Nick Korte, who has been a guru when it comes to figuring out this formula, the Packers should garner a 6th round selection from Williams leaving. That's sort of a bummer, as I was hoping that Williams would garner more interest to perhaps get a 5th in compensation. I would expect some team will see enough upside in Kevin King to get the Packers a comp pick (likely 5th or 6th round). The only other FAs I could see getting anything more than a minimum-type 1-year deal are Will Redmond and Montravius Adams, but I doubt the deals would be big enough to get anything compensation-wise.
  9. Reading between the lines on what Counsell said during his media session about Shaw, it certainly sounds like its still the plan for Urias to be the main SS, and for Arcia bounce around between SS and 3B as needed. Counsell even mentioned him as the first alternative at 3B ahead of Robertson should Shaw scuffle. I think it might be time to get used to the idea of Urias as this team's SS, sink or swim, moving forward.
  10. I predict Green will be Brewers starting 3B by midseason after Shaw "rebounds" and puts up Justin Smoak 2020 type numbers. All Green has done this spring so far is have all 5 of this hits go for extra bases. He's primed for a monster year in AAA. I like Travis Shaw, so I want him to succeed. But I really liked the Zach Green signing as well, and if Shaw falters, Green will be a fun story to keep an eye on.
  11. Nope. I'm just not buying that the Brewers are turning down a top ~10 SS prospect for him, or that they're demanding Abrams AND another very good prospect. It feels like they're piecing together rumors about the Brewers wanting an MLB ready piece...and a prospect and citing the best prospect they've got(arguably) and a young player who's MLB ready. The "searching for some reason to get made at Stearns" is just...kinda out of nowhere and ridiculous. You said "Then why even bother to shop him...why bother to take offers? If you're asking for Abrams AND another high ceiling prospect, you're not serious about trading him." Sorry if I am misreading what you posted there, but it certainly appears to me that you are criticizing the team for shopping Hader with unrealistic expectations concerning his value. If I am misinterpreting your point, I apologize.
  12. There is no enforcing, just honor system. Which sounds like a horrible idea. Around 70% of Wisconsin has a BMI of 25, so there isn't really going to be much of a need for an honor system. Close to the whole state is going to be eligible next Monday. Things are likely going to be somewhat chaotic at first. I hope people are patient.
  13. People keep saying this, but what is it actually based on? The idea that occasionally a guy with lesser draft status contributes? What about the guys that ARE drafted high that contribute? That's just it, though. For every late round Aaron Jones success story, there are 30 Dexter Williams types who barely make a ripple. It is possible that Dillon may not amount to much in the end, but the small sample so far looks promising, and given his draft status, he's going to be given every opportunity to contribute.
  14. I don't know who needed that HR more ... Urias or this forum.
  15. I suppose that's the dream. You'd have to be confident that the combo of Sternberger/Deguara are ready to take a big leap forward, as TE is ultra-weak in the draft this year. But a high 2nd would be gigantic to this team in a cap-crunch year. It's a weak FA class too. With Jonnu and Henry off the board, Tonyan is probably next up, and it isn't particularly close. Then you're looking at potentially over-the-hill vets like Kyle Rudolph, Jared Cook, or Tyler Eifert, or perpetually injured guys like Jesse James, Jacob Hollister or Jordan Reed. About the only names that would intrigue me are Gerald Everett or Jake Butt.
  16. It depends on how the contract is structured. If one of the teams that has a lot of cap room puts together a front-loaded deal, the Packers may just have to take the 2nd and walk away. A team like the Jaguars or Jets could easily do that, and the Packers would end up with a pick in the high 30s. That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, although truth be told, I'd rather have Tonyan back.
  17. I think I've talked myself into signing Patrick Peterson as the team's new #2 corner. Very similar career arch to Charles Woodson, at least so far. Woodson was a little more injury-prone in his first stint with the Raiders.
  18. That was more aimed at the "what's the point of shopping him if they aren't serious about trading him" narrative.
  19. The Brewers have officially agreed to add Travis Shaw to the 40-man roster: Looks like Shaw is going to at least be the big side of a 3B platoon, at least to start the year. Nice to have that squared away. Hopefully Shaw can reward the Brewers' faith in his ability to rebound.
  20. I love Urias's upside, but this scenario is specifically why I'm happy the Brewers haven't given up on Orlando Arcia yet. I'd love for Urias to be able to go down to AAA and rake for a month, then come back up. Unfortunately that isn't an option this year with the AAA season not getting going till May. Hopefully Urias starts stinging the ball in the 2+ weeks we have left to Spring Training, but if he needs to go down to get consistent ABs, it by no means is proof that the Brewers whiffed on that deal. Urias is 23, and I suspect he's gonna get a lot of chances to succeed with the Brewers.
  21. Corner Offensive tackle DE/DT (essentially the same position in this defense) Inside LB Slot WR
  22. They aren't shopping him. They never have. They just aren't telling teams that he isn't available. I'm sure from the Brewers point of view, if the Padres are serious about competing with the Dodgers for the next several seasons, they'll step up to shore up the one area of their team where the Dodgers have a sizable advantage - the bullpen. If the Padres don't ... good luck. Bingo. They have their price when people come asking as they should. The rest of this is just bored people discussing stuff that more than likely will never occur. And ... for some reason ... searching for a reason to be mad at Stearns. I mean, Stearns has made plenty of moves that you can justifiably complain about, but I don't think the decision to not yet trade Josh Hader is one of them.
  23. They aren't shopping him. They never have. They just aren't telling teams that he isn't available. 24. Robertson has seen some time in the OF during spring training, so it wouldn't surprise me if they only keep four true OFers, and consider Robertson/Arcia the 5th OFer. It was starting to look like a spot was coming down to either Vogelbach or Fisher, and Fisher's injury muddles that up. Might come down to Vogelbach or McKinney now.
  25. They should get a decent pick for Williams as well, as he seemingly has a pretty robust market. Yes, thanks. Completely forgot about Williams... I think Linsley, King and Williams are really the only guys who stand a good chance of bringing back a decent comp pick in 2022. Probably a 3rd for Linsley, and perhaps 5ths for King and Williams. It is also possible they could grab an additional 7th for losing the collective of guys like M. Adams, Ervin, Redmond and Winn, and that is assuming they don't sign anyone, which seems unlikely.
