  1. I would think that the admission that he wants to play for a contender would already rule the Bears out. Not sure if you're kidding but if they land Wentz it changes things. On a personal level I'd love for them to bet the farm on Wentz because I don't think it will really do anything, but the perception will be that they're a win-now team if they get him. If the Bears and Vikings reload at QB the Packers could have their hands full though. Perhaps that should have been half blue, but it's tough to see the Bears as a contender even if they get Wentz. Getting Watson would be a whole different story, though.

  3. I agree. His lefty bat is intriguing at home. Even with Shaw on the team, there's still a big need for bench power. I hope that Robertson, Arcia and Shaw are bringing their OF gloves to camp then, because I think the only way the numbers work is if they keep only 4 true OFers.
  4. Considering Shaw signed a minor league deal, I'm sure he was in the situation of having to take what he could get. I have a feeling he will make the team, but if he doesn't produce, he'll be gone in pretty short order. I don't think the previous relationship, or any perceived bad blood, has any meaning at this point. He's at the point where if he doesn't make it with the Brewers in 2021, he might be done. That realization will make a payer swallow their pride pretty quick.
  5. It's baseball. Your best hitter is in the 2-hole. That's pretty much the way every team does it. I'm sure there is some science and reasoning behind it.
  6. We'll see once the games start, but the recent quotes from Stearns seem to indicate that Urias is going to be given every opportunity to win the job outright.
  7. Obviously Hiura, Wong and Urias are locks. Arcia and Robertson are probably close to it. If they keep 13 position players, it will probably be 4-5 outfielders, 5-6 infielders and the two catchers. That means Vogelbach and Shaw may be competing for one spot. I suppose they could keep both, but then that means only 4 OFers.
  8. Agreed. The more solid arms you can collect and have in reserve this year, the better. Anderson is no world beater, but he's a solid lefty starter who will keep you in games, and stands to improve this year with upgrades to the Brewers' defense. I'm really starting to like the rotation depth they are putting together. Would be nice to maybe see one more veteran starter on a minor league deal. And who knows, maybe a guy like Odorizzi or Walker will fall through the cracks, and the Brewers could swoop in with a solid short-term deal?
  9. Who would you prefer as a LHH 3B?
  10. His versatility makes him an ideal fit for this roster. Can be a platoon partner with Robertson at 3B, and with Hiura at 1B. Also 2B in a pinch. I dig it.
  11. I took that as they want Arcia to be more of a utility guy. I am not sure if the main 3B is on this team yet. Sure sounds like they are thinking Uriah is going to be the top SS on the depth chart. We'll see what happens, though.
  12. Sounds good to me. Liked him last year. Pitched well, and a pretty cool guy to boot.
  13. We're in an era where if you're a first round draft pick you're most certainly going to be the starter from the get go. That's simply because most NFL teams don't have the luxury to draft a young QB in the 1st round and let him sit and learn. Just because it hasn't happened recently doesn't mean it is not a smart thing to do.
  14. Exactly. Boyle has been in the offense for years, and is instrumental in playcalling and communication. Also, why does Love's senior year always get brought up by detractors, but not his junior year? He had a much better supporting cast his junior season.
  15. Very doubtful.... Stick a guy at 3B, that's never played a single inning in the infield at either college or minors, not gonna happen... Can you imagine the uproar if he did that? Pretty sure that was sarcasm
  16. Davante Adams is a #1 WR regardless of who his QB is, and he's shown that. That is the top struggle of inexperienced QBs – not having a go to reciever. This team has the pieces in place to have a solid defense. I think a lot of fans tend to view Rodgers as a one-man show, and feel that the rest of the talent on the team is not up to par. Yes, they can stand to improve in some areas, but otherwise that is simply not true. Sorry, I just don't think history has borne this out to be true. Any absence of Rodgers in his era has resulted in total disaster. Obviously the rosters are not exactly the same now as they have been in the past, but there's many of the same pieces still here from the brief Hundley era, and a true #1 receiver is something that has been present for over 10 years. I do of course think there's talent on the roster outside of Rodgers but there's no way I can be convinced that if something happened to Rodgers next year and we had to turn to Love immediately that we wouldn't be in for a really bumpy ride. Of course a team is going to struggle when the QB1 who you build your gameplan around is hurt. Its apples and oranges when you are building your whole gameplan and roster around a new QB, and have ample time to do it.
  17. Yeah, Devers! A pre-arbitration eligible 23 year old starting 3B with a career OPS of .830. The Brewers should send Corbin Burnes, Devin Williams and a throw in lien Corey Ray and get him today. If that fails I’d pivot to Candelario. They could probably get him for just Garett Mitchell and Ethan Small I did say wishful thinking. I don't know if Candelario would be that expensive, but he wouldn't be cheap. But this thread is for throwing around ideas, right?
  18. The Brewers are quickly becoming a who's-who of failed former Top 100 prospects from the 2015-2018 prospect era. I do think that grabbing a bunch of these guys is more fun that grabbing a bunch of Eric Sogards like they did last year, though. There's still some upside in guys like Fisher, McKinney, Robertson, Lopes, Green, Cozens and Reyes. It's going to make following Spring Training very intriguing.
  19. I think the most obvious target is Kyle Seager, but I also think that if the Brewers were truly interested in him, he would have been a Brewer last offseason, instead of the Gyorko/Sogard/Holt murder's row we ended up going with. The modus operandi this year seems to be grabbing former top prospects in that 24-28-year-old range who haven't been able to find a firm footing in MLB quite yet. Maikel Franco certainly fits that description, as does Jeimer Candelario. One name I've seen a little on social media that I don't believe has been mention here, though, is Rafael Devers. I don't know what the cost would be, but he'd be a perfect fit for this lineup. Likely very wishful thinking, though.
  20. Love will get game time. Aaron Rodgers is a 37-year-old QB. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking he is infallible to injury.
  21. Davante Adams is a #1 WR regardless of who his QB is, and he's shown that. That is the top struggle of inexperienced QBs – not having a go to reciever. Yes, they can stand to improve in some areas, but otherwise that is simply not true.
  22. Considering the team's record when Rodgers doesn't play and Jordan Love is next in line, I think it's a fair assumption. Jordan Love is an absolute blank slate. No one knows what he's going to do. If you claim to know how good of an NFL QB he's going to be, you're lying.
  23. I love how people assume that once Rodgers is gone, this team is suddenly going to revert to the 1980s Packers where players were sent as a punishment. As much as some fans like to rag on the team for not "getting Rodgers more Super Bowls", this team is still going to be a well run cash cow after Rodgers is gone. It will still be an extremely talented team after Rodgers decides to hang up his spikes, or is traded, or however else he leaves.
