  1. I'm going to guess Daulton Varsho and Jon Duplantier going back to the Pirates. Kevin Cron seems like a Pirates type as well, at least to me.
  2. Castellanos was traded mid-way through last season, so he can't get a qualifying offer after 2020. I'm not sure what would happen if he opted out after 2021, but I don't think they could offer it then either. Could be wrong. I believe you want to double check the QO rules. ChiCubs could not offer Nick the QO because he was acquired mid-season 2019. IF Nick stays with Cinci all 2020 & opts out for free agency after the season, YES the Reds could offer the QO. yes, I was getting my dates confused. You appear to be correct. That could potentially hurt his bargaining power next year, unless there is some sort of wink-nod agreement in place that they won't make the qualifying offer.
  3. Castellanos was traded mid-way through last season, so he can't get a qualifying offer after 2020. I'm not sure what would happen if he opted out after 2021, but I don't think they could offer it then either. Could be wrong.
  4. So Castellanos has opt-outs after the first AND SECOND year of his deal. That is a very David Stearns-like contract. I think it's funny how the Brewers as Stearns have now become the model of how to operate a modern-day front office. It's almost as if the guy might know what he's doing.
  5. With an opt-out after 2020. Really smart move on his part. If he hits like he did in Chicago, he'd hit the market next year as a 28-year-old. Honestly, this is looking like it's likely to be a 1-year deal, as the only way I foresee him not opting out of this deal is if he's below average or he gets injured.
  6. Hopefully Houser. He's got a similar upside to Woodruff, and is primed to take that sort of leap.
  7. You wouldn't have made that deal right now though right? We already have too many OF, where would Castellanos have played? He's like a 1 win upgrade over our current 1B if you are thinking there. Not spending that type of money for that. I mean I could see doing it instead of Garcia, but not after it. Yeah ... as much as I love him, the Castellanos ship probably sailed when they signed Garcia. Who knows if he would have taken this kind of contract back then?
  8. I think Maddon moving on is pretty severely underrated. That guy, for all his quirks, was a really good manager. Ross might be fine as well, but going from Maddon to a rookie manager could very well be a massive downgrade.
  9. Agreed. The first thing I thought when I saw the Castellanos news this morning was that there would be a segment of Brewer fans who would use it as an excuse to rip the team. Honestly it sometimes seems like it would be easier to swear off all message boards and social media until June, when the Brewers are going to be right there among those in contention. It just seems like there are those who follow this team that are waiting for every little reason to come in guns blazing to rip on this team. I don't get it.
  10. Deal is the same at Moose's 4 years/$64 million. Obviously Moose brings much better defensive value. But Castellanos has youth on his side. If I were Stearns, I would have made that deal. Oh well.
  11. And they are going to have plenty of spots available on their bandwagon this year after being terrible for the last 6 years, and 16 of the last 20. The Reds have become known for sitting out on free agency and passing up on big moves to vault themselves into competitiveness. Calling a one-year shopping spree "investing in the product" to take a backhanded slap at the Brewers is pretty inaccurate.
  12. Apparently they have made Senzel available via trade now. I don't think the Reds have any idea what they are doing.
  13. It appears that Castellanos to the Reds is a done deal. Too bad ... that bat is terrific. That's a big bummer ... but realistically he would have been tough for the Brewers to find a spot for, especially after they signed Garcia. It will be extremely interesting to see which of those two has the better year this year. If Castellanos's Cubs numbers were legit, watch out! I don't really like the rest of the Reds' lineup, though. Truth is, though ... I'd rather he go to the Reds than one of the true contenders in the Central - the Cards or Cubs.
  14. Nah, it's easy. Sure, they would certainly have the talent on paper to win the central. But ... that team continues to be a pile of mismatched trash until it proves it isn't. And I love Castellanos and I think he's primed for a Yelich-like break-out. It would seriously suck if he does it in a Reds uniform, and especially so making a salary that would be palatable to the Brewers. The Reds have been active, but it's a weird group of players. Bauer got smacked around pretty good following the trade last year. Moose should be fine, but I think he's a guy that's been overrated by our fanbase a good bit. Most of their hitters, other than Votto, had career years last year are are primed for a negative regression. They've certainly been active for the first time in a while, but time will tell if the "name" guys they picked up pay off. It will be a nice case study, as the Reds took an avenue of player acquisition that I think a lot of Brewer fans would like to see their team do, i.e. grab a bunch of easily recognizable names. The Brewers are doing things a much different way. It'll be fun to see which way is more successful.
  15. Not Bucks related, but multiple sources are reporting that Kobe Bryant has died in a helicopter crash. Wow! How terrible.
  16. I expect some additional starting pitching depth for sure. They are very thin there on both the ML club and in AAA, depending on your thoughts on Brown and Supak.
  17. Bello and Gray and 19, and Lemons just turned 21. Probably a little early to dig the graves on their careers.
  18. Oh well. I'm encouraged by many of the moves they've made, though. The roster may not be as top heavy as 2019, but I think it stands a good shot of being a better team top-to-bottom overall. I am assuming, though, that guys like Woodruff, Houser and Hiura make a jump, and Cain rebounds. Lots of assumptions, but I don't think they team needs crazy, outlandish production to be a contender. Lots of very nice pieces in place.
  19. Wow, your batting average just took another jump. Nice work. Lol; wasn't sure why people thought I would troll with names like Smoak/Morrison. If I wanted to troll, I would've mentioned the likes of Donaldson, Wheeler, etc. Great work! Are you hearing any other tidbits, or is the group they have pretty much what we're going to be looking at come the end of March?
  20. Well, this is a tad alarming: I mean, there is a chance that it is nothing ... but with this team, is that ever the outcome?
  21. Lowry won't ever be a star, but he is durable, strong and assignment-sure. That makes him dependable, which does bring a strong value in the NFL. You need guys like that. Where the D-Line lacks is expecting a guy like Lancaster, who is a very poor man's version of Lowry, to start on the other side. Lancaster is very much just a guy, maybe even a bit below that. He just doesn't have the athleticism to match up. Lowry's is marginal as it is. This team needed Montravius Adams to step up, and he didn't. Adams has the kind of athleticism that is very much needed, but got washed out a lot in his sporadic playing time. Both he and Keke need to improve. It wouldn't surprise me to see a high pick or free agent DL acquired as well.
  22. That would have warranted a few more exclamation points.
  23. Same for me. Maybe I am setting myself up to be disappointed, but the fact Stearns has twice told the Brewers beat reporters this off-season that he thought there were opportunities to upgrade via trade gives me hope that something will come together to give the roster an additional boost. The moves so far, while seemingly mostly quality, haven't been the type that lather up the fanbase and get them excited (although I'm personally really excited for Garcia, Narvaez and Lindblom). Right now they have a team that should be very competitive on paper. While they probably don't "need" a bit acquisition to contend for a division title, it would certainly be fun, and get the fanbase into the Brewers going into Spring Training.
  24. This day two years ago was likely most exciting off-season date in the team's history. Yelich and Cain's acquisitions put this team on the map as a contender. Such a great day to be a Brewer fan.
  25. Yeah it's kind of an odd take. They basically gave her a solo film because she was so well received. The rest of that film is rightfully being scrubbed. If most people are asked about the highlights she's at the top of the list. Atrocious writing, some bad acting and Jared Leto was cringey. I won't debate the Pressly v Robbie hotness topic but there is a reason one is an A-lister getting major film roles and one was doing films with Jerry Springer. Well, it's an opinion. In my opinion, that movie was terrible across the board, her included. She isn't terrible to look at, but it feels like that's the character's only redeeming quality, and the one DC is trying to shove down the consumer's throats.
