  1. But even though you don't, the rest of the league does. To me, they are renta players for a full year...not a "big" FA signing. No different than acquiring someone at the deadline, only you have them for the full year not half a year. This offseason has been a colossal bust as far as I'm concerned. I was really thinking Grandal and Moose would both be back...no reason I thought they couldn't/shouldn't have been. At least one of them for sure I thought would be back. If that is truly your definition of a "big" free agent signing, it's probably best not to get your hopes up, because the Cain deal is proving to be an anomaly with each passing year. We may see some sort of splash next year with Braun comes off the books, but even then I wouldn't really bet on it. What this front office has done though, is supply the 2020 roster with multiple interesting players, most of which have a good amount of upside or a semi-recent MLB track record of success. It's a really interesting group of players who all seem to bring a little something different to the table ... almost like a modern-day version of Moneyball. While I'd love to see the team acquire more "sure thing" type names, I think that they feel, for the cost they'd need to invest in those guys, it somewhat mitigates the production. If Donaldson gets hurt or starts showing his age (and remember, father time is undefeated), you are looking at a failure on a $20+ million AAV investment. If Gyorko is bad, you are looking at failure on a $2 million investment. Those failures are a lot easier to fix midseason for a team in contention. As much as you seem to believe that Donaldson will continue to hit like a superstar, that is definitely not guaranteed. Any contract carries a certain amount of risk.
  2. This is a terrific viewpoint to have on the situation. Hader's value is likely never going to be higher than it is right now. That said, I get the feeling that Hader won't be going anywhere unless a team puts together an offer that would be deemed as "paying through the nose". That would mean getting back several potential cornerstone pieces that would help both now and in the future.
  3. The top of the Twins system looks so much more intriguing than the crap being thrown around in the Yankees rumors. I'd personally love to be able to pencil a bat like Kirilloff into the 1B hole long term. He is somewhat blocked by Sano now as well, even though I guess he can play the corner OF as well.
  4. They get punished no doubt. They are just trying to get out in front a bit by firing him. All the writing is on the wall.
  5. If the Brewers believe that the DH will be adopted at some point in the next few years, and if Castellanos continues to languish on the open market, I could potentially see the Brewers jumping into that fray. I think they could basically hide him on defense this year through getting innings at 3B, 1B and the corner OF, and somewhat mitigate his poor defense through shifts and late-game sub-outs. Not probable, but that would be an extremely potent bat to add to this lineup. I also think it's likely that Arcia eventually gets traded, either for a reliever, or an overpriced LHH 3B. Sogard and Gyorko can play SS, as can Rodriguez and Matthias.
  6. Agree they could have. My argument is the Brewers shouldn't. As much as my heart would have loved a guy like Donaldson, you gotta think with your head when handing out that kind of money. Donaldson is 34, and hasn't exactly been injury-free throughout his career. I do still have an inkling that there is a pretty big move in store yet for the Brewers, though.
  7. Cool! Glad to see the Twins going all in, and glad that Donaldson is out of the NL.
  8. The Reds ZiPS projections came out today. By comparison the Reds 2020 projections broke down as follows... Position Player ZiPS projected WAR: 17.8 Starting Pitcher ZiPS projected WAR: 14.2 Bullpen ZiPS projected WAR: 3.6 So right now that total of 35.6 projected WAR ranks 2.5 wins behind the Brewers 2020 projection. But ... but ... the Reds have improved SOOO much! Like I've been saying ... they are junk until they prove they aren't. Making a few signings in the offseason doesn't automatically turn a trash team into a good one.
  9. Cardinals again looking to make a move that we as Brewer fans can only dream about. Yeah, I'm going to hope that Arenado falls on his face if this happens, but it 100% is going to be borne out of jealousy.
  10. Logan Morrison seems to be asserting via social media that there were players that suspecting this was happening way back in 2014. Of course, that was when his new boss was a higher-up in Houston's organization.
  11. Dang it! Boo on me for even bringing it up. Um ... I meant Taubman Brewer World. Yeah, go with that. Hope you don't think I was dismissing your post. I am dismissing Brewer World I get it. I would hope/think that Stearns knows that that whole organization right now is extremely toxic. Just connecting the dots I suppose. Houston may want to stay away from anyone even associated with Luhnow, Stearns included.
  12. Look at his twitter history...it is a joke account. He scans other twitter accounts and posts stuff as if he thought of it. I know this for a fact because he did it to me once upon a time. Also, not a stretch to post a rumor like the one above. It was already mentioned in this thread...probably where the clown got the idea. #Jerkstore Dang it! Boo on me for even bringing it up. Um ... I meant Taubman Brewer World. Yeah, go with that.
  13. ... yet dirtbag Astros fans keep referring to Mike Fiers as "The Rat".
  14. Wasn’t he banned from baseball? Either way, with how poorly they handled that when it happened they would be absolutely moronic to go back to him. Not that former assistant GM. The one currently employed by the good guys.
  15. Luhnow and Hinch were just fired. A little part of me wonders if the Astros may go after their former assistant GM?
  16. Probably not as good on paper as last year's. But very comparable to 2018. Obviously a lot of hope that the newcomers hit the ground running. I just think that a LOT of things are going to have to go right for us to even have a shot at the playoffs. Odds are against us imo. That is likely. But at the same time, SO many things went wrong last season, and they still found a way in. Cain, Arcia, Aguilar and Shaw were black holes offensively. Chacin, Burnes and Peralta (3/5ths of the rotation) were terrible. Knebel goes down in Spring Training. Best starting pitcher misses a huge chunk of the season. Wonderkind rookie 2B goes down with a big injury during the stretch run. Your MVP who carried the team all season goes down in early September. I mean, last year was a perfect storm of terrible things, yet they still found a way. Personally, I'm never going to count this team out again until the math just doesn't work anymore.

  18. Joey Meyer Bombs ... it's in my sig
  19. It really isn't a slam dunk ... no, an arbitrator cannot award more ... and this is how the system works. Arbitration and free agency are completely different systems.
  20. Pretty sure that he recently said he'd be willing to play corner infield. Of course, that could have simply been to increase his marketability. But I agree, that ship has likely sailed after signing Garcia, Smoak and Gyorko.
  21. Rodgers may have played his finest game of the season tonight. Took what the defense gave him, and made some incredible throws. Didn't try to wing it 40 yards every 3rd down. Seattle defense played pretty tough tonight. I give them credit. Rodgers and the Packers were just a little bit better.
  22. Considering lcbj68c's posting history, it's pretty apparent that he just doesn't have any optimism when cheering for his sports teams. Pretty much every Brewer-related post is pretty negative as well. There obviously is all types of fandom out there, but when the pessimism turns overtly hyperbolic, it can get old real fast. That said, I engaged when I didn't need to. Ignorance is bliss in this case.
  23. It already was when they clinched the division. This is all gravy now.
  24. I feel like we need a Brewerfan version of OldTakesExposed for so many of your posts
