  1. Chambers in my mind is the best Badger comparison. Similar size, athletic ability, strong hands, and consistency. Cephus like Chambers was just reliable. He could make plays at all levels (short, mid, deep). You remove Taylor, Cephus would have been the star of this offense with monster numbers. Kid could go off for 100+ Every game but offense really wasn’t geared towards that. He still put up 59 & 907. Guys like Chambers & Cephus aren’t at Wisconsin often. They are just complete WRs that you can rely on all game. They are more in mold of Adams & Cooper type WRs who may not have the size, elite speed, or other things that teams drool over but do little things right and have enough of all the tools to be a threat. Chambers had great career & think Cephus can to. He easily could be #2 on the Packers right now buuuut really.... 2-6 for us is not good. Wish him the best! Crush combine! Awesome he had this kind of season after all he went through I guess I was misremembering the sizes of these guys a little. I remember Lee Evans as tiny for some reason. I thought Chris Chambers was taller as well. Oh well ... old age I guess. I agree with the Davante Adams/Amari Cooper comparisons for Cephus. Complete WRs that you can play on the perimeter or in the slot. Good hands, good size, and run well enough. They also have great body control and awareness, which a lot of the "measurement" guys (such as MVS) lack. I agree ... Cephus would be #2 on the Packers right now, probably pretty easily.
  2. I can't imagine Thames was interested in coming back here once we didn't pick up the option. Even if he did though this is the complete wrong way to think about contracts. What these players do shouldn't change whether the contract was a good idea or not. Thames could get hurt and never play a game for the nats and it wouldn't make it a bad contract. Either one of them could go on to hit 30+ HR's next year as they both have proven they can do. These are like little hedge bets and you know that sometimes you win the bet and sometimes you lose it, the result doesn't change whether or not the gamble was worth it. That is why the contracts are short and small, because they are risks, not sure things. I think you are misreading my post. All I'm saying is that it is going to be fun to follow how well Smoak plays on his deal that pays him a little more than Thames ended up getting from the Nats, but less than what Thames' option was for. Nowhere did I imply that either are bad contracts, or that picking up Thames's option would have been bad. In the end, the difference in the contracts is pocket change for an MLB club.
  3. I'd gladly take that bet.
  4. It begs the question, which will be fun to follow this year. Is Smoak on a 1 year $5 million (or 2-year, $9.5 million) deal better than re-signing Thames for what he got? I suppose Smoak is a switch hitter and doesn't strike out as much, but I don't know.
  5. It's 1 year, $3 million, with a $4 million mutual option with a $1 million buyout. So, basically a 1 year, $4 million deal. Or $1 million less than Smoak on a similar type deal. Except Smoak's option is a team option.
  6. Nationals doing a nice job shoring things up in the new year. @Britt_Ghiroli Nats have agreed to terms with infielder Eric Thames, pending a physical.
  7. The Badgers have had some talent at WR over the years going back to the days of Lee DeRamus and J.C. Dawkins in the early 90s, but I don't think they've ever had one who looks as pro-ready as Cephus. Assuming he checks out athletically, he has a lot of the attributes you look for in a prototypical WR. It's going to be interesting to see how he measures height and weight-wise, as the Badgers list him at 6'1" and a solid 207. He's not one of those typical rail-thin (Lee Evans, Jared Abbredaris, Jonathan Orr, Tony Simmons, Brandon Williams), or tall, lanky (Donald Hayes, Chris Chambers) guys that have tried to take the next step.
  8. I don't know if I've ever read so much hyperbole in a 300-word article before. Wow. Saying that McCarthy deserves no credit for the SB win drives it home for me as a simply terrible set of ideas mashed together.
  9. The longer Castellanos hangs out on the open market, the more a part of me thinks that the Brewers may just be willing to eat his bad defense at 3B in the interest of getting another potent RH stick in the lineup. Sogard could very easily be used as a late-game substitution at 3B to tighten up the defense. I am just of the belief that if any player on the market is primed for a potential Yelich-like offensive break-out, it's Castellanos.
  10. ... and I'm wrong. Cephus just declared for the draft. I'm typically that guy that poo-poos the homers that want the Packers to draft former Badgers, but Cephus would actually make a ton of sense for GB. Very similar-type all-around receiver to Adams. I think he'd be a hell of a pick in Round 3-4 if he lasts.
  11. Two teams that are prone to winning ugly. I predict a low-scoring defensive battle that is decided at the end. I imagine there will also be a key turnover at some point that plays a huge role. By no means should the Packers be looking past the Seahawks or expecting an easy win. I predict a final score of something like 19-17. Gonna give the Packers the slight edge playing at Lambeau.
  12. Well, they may be still in the lead, but safe to say this has aged poorly. Eagles are hanging around. Probably should have kicked the FG instead of going on 4th down on the last drive.
  13. The weather thing was only a consideration if the Saints had been the opponent. It won't have any effect on the Eagles or Seahawks.
  14. I thought you said it already was?
  15. Taysom Hill will be the Saints starting quarterback next season. I kinda meant Packer-related hot takes, but touche.
  16. At least there isn't going to be a ton of insufferable Taysom Hill hot takes all week now.
  17. Well, I guess I kinda thought this may happen, but I didn't believe it. Go Eagles I guess?
  18. Zimmer with a textbook case of coaching scared. Payton took the ball out of Brees's hands on an attempt or two to win it in regulation.
  19. I see the Vikings are going to play the "give up a bunch of 10-yard completions" defense now, letting the Saints go right down the field for at least a FG or probable TD though.
  20. I don't care who wins. Both teams look eminently beatable.
  21. I would highly, highly doubt that would be allowed under MLB rules. The whole point of "independant" is that they are unattached to an MLB team.
  22. At the very least, he saves you a roster spot or two because on gameday, he’s effectively QB3, RB3, and TE3. My guess is with the imagination the offense showed in Mike McCarthy's later years, you can eliminate RB3 and TE3 from Hill's job responsibilities
  23. Wow, no kidding! I think we need a little sensitivity training sometimes, while realizing that this was a 23 year old kid that was relatively very early in his career. I don't really want him at all, but to say that he doesn't want to be here because he cried on the field years ago? Sheesh!
  24. Curious as to why Stearns would be interested in Castro, but seemed to have no interest in Cabrera who was so much cheaper, and a little better player? I imagine it has something to do with Cabrera being an atrocious defender wherever you put him.
  25. He could have very easily transferred. Cephus stated several times, though, that he was only interested in staying at UW and playing football. I think given how stacked the WR draft class is this year that there's at least a decent possibility he's back next season.
