  1. I think it's fair to have doubts. I hope you stick around, and that Garcia plays well enough to serve you a helping of crow
  2. I dig the confidence. I hope he plays well enough that the Brewers can't afford him in two years.
  3. Market dictated it. These guys are flying off the shelves much earlier this year, and for better pay. There will be guys still available in January/February, but most of the bigger names have already found deals. Brewers risked having to fill holes with significant downgrades had they not jumped on board the FA bandwagon early.
  4. Agreed. I would really hope we didn't pay that price for a 4th OF. Hope Brauny has his 1B glove broken in.
  5. Yay, it's done! $10 million AAV tells me he's going to be a full time starter in the OF. This probably means my Castellanos dream ship has sailed, though.
  6. Yeah, that concerns me as well. I realize this happened awhile ago now - and hopefully Garcia has grown up and matured a lot since then, but that's just not something you can easily overlook. I doubt it, guys like that tend to be habitual offenders. Having said that I don't think it would sway me enough to protest him being on the team. We've had guys on the team that have done far worse in my opinion. I'd suspect this kind of thing goes on more than we know. I mean, I'm not running out to buy his Jersey or anything but I wouldn't root against the guy. I do sort of wonder how the dynamic would be, considering Braun and Fielder are still close. Heck, our manager spent a few years in the same infield as Prince as well, and Prince seems to have a solid relationship with the team. That said, if they are as close to signing him as things seem to be, I'm sure the issues have been thoroughly vetted.
  7. If they trade Robbie Ray I think they will definitely require MLB ready pieces in return. With the benefit of hindsight it appears they did well last year by trading Goldschmidt's expiring contract for Carson Kelly and Luke Weaver (forgetting the third piece they received). I could see them similarly using Robbie Ray to acquire younger MLB players with years of control. The Diamondbacks have a huge need in their bullpen that is holding them back from being a competitive ballclub, but have depth in some other places that would help the Brewers. Would a Hader deal with Ray/Eduardo Escobar as the centerpieces, and also including corner infield prospects such as Seth Beer, Kevin Cron and/or Andy Young work? Just spitballing here.
  8. I almost wonder if the deal is tentative on other players making a decision? Like if the Brewers have an offer out to a player like Castellanos, and are awaiting his response to it before moving on to Garcia? That would make some sense, as both players are predominantly right handed-hitting corner OFers so if Castellanos accepted the Brewers offer, Garcia would be somewhat redundant. Perhaps this theory is just grasping at straws, and the more likely reason is something having to do with complex contract language or incentives/options on a short-term deal.
  9. Agreed, which would seem to indicate that the Brewers had absolutely no interest in Kluber. What you'd be looking at as an equivalent from the Brewers in this case is Keon Broxton and Drew Rasmussen. Broxton many could take or leave... but a Rasmussen-type prospect for me would be a deal-breaker. Rasmussen is a solid value comparison IMO to Clase, but your Broxton/DeShields comparison is not close, IMO. If you are looking for an OF of comparable value to DeShields, the Brewers probably don't own him. To me, probably the best comparison value-wise would be a package of Arcia/Rasmussen. But given the Indians' enormous need for competent OFers, considering they have pretty much ignored that area in the past, and it has likely cost them dearly, it's possible they are attaching more value to DeShields than we are.
  10. Agreed, which would seem to indicate that the Brewers had absolutely no interest in Kluber.
  11. So what in David Stearns' history as a GM indicates that the Brewers would have been players at a tier that is paying starting pitchers near $100 million deals? If you are under that sort of delusional believe, sorry, that disappointment is entirely on you.
  12. As opposed to what? Screaming about how this front office is terrible and how Mark Attanasio is a cheapskate? Both pretty much accomplish the same thing.
  13. Probably Donaldson. But the only way that would be in the Brewers wheelhouse is on short-term deal, any it's tough to see that happening.
  14. Breaking News: The Brewers will not be signing someone major. I feel like this would be a much safer statement to make in March.
  15. Well, Lauer has the free time now ...
  16. I think people are over-inflating how the expanded rosters helped the Brewers in September. Most of those guys they brought up barely played. A few of the pitchers got some mop up innings, but for the most part they deployed the guys they always did, just in a bit of a different fashion.
  17. Especially in the midst of a rebrand. I am under this same assumption. If they don't sign a expensive free agent, they'll trade for a high-priced guy to be a major bat in the lineup. I'm a 100% admitted David Stearns apologist, and even I can admit that rolling out a huge rebrand and then pinching every penny is a horrible look.
  18. Again, he projects about as good offensively as Moose. Was he a bottom of the barrel player in your mind too? Projections projections projections! I think this is what irritates me so much about every cheap signing the Brewers make. People will say well he projects to be the same as so and so. Except to this point in their careers they haven't produced like player so and so has. Projections aren't worth the paper they are printed on. You know what matters?? PRODUCTION. Until you prove you are as good as so and so, projections mean crap. Every thread lately has devolved into this argument. Sometimes you sign guys not to be superstars, but to simply fill holes. Garcia is a decent payer who can fill a hole.
  19. This is where I am at. It’s fine to trust Stearns as he has earned it but let’s stop acting like Brett Anderson and Garcia are great players because they are not. We are clearly dumpster diving and Stearns has shown he can make it work but guys like this are nothing to get excited about. Why not? I mean, if this is how they operate - dumpster diving, if you will - why not get excited for the guys they are acquiring? I mean, it would be great if they spent more. But it is what it is. Gotta play the hand you're dealt, right?
  20. Thing is, HRs and All-Star appearances are probably not a real solid way to determine player value. I loved Moose. He was a great player for this team. If they sign Garcia, he has the skills to be a great player for this team as well. Also 3 years younger than Moose.
  21. Gotcha. And who knows? The Brewers like to think outside the box when it comes to defensive alignment. Perhaps Castellanos is a possibility at 3B?
  22. I like Castellanos better, but the two of these guys are not that much different in the overall scheme. If Castellanos time with the Cubs is who he really is, then he's better. But Garcia is a good player. Just wouldn't make sense to get both. Both are predominantly right-handed hitting OFers. Signing Garcia means you are have Braun as the RH side of the 1B platoon, so no Castellanos there. I guess you could sign him to play 3B, but he's pretty terrible defensively there.
  23. You were angry they didn’t resign Moose, but Garcia projects to have similar numbers as him. One can’t be a huge loss while the other is a ‘not a needle mover’ addition..... Two words Name Recognition
  24. I like Castellanos better, but the two of these guys are not that much different in the overall scheme. If Castellanos time with the Cubs is who he really is, then he's better. But Garcia is a good player.
  25. Thank you, I was just going to respond to your other post and say let's not just assume there are red flags as way of justifying the Brewers not doing this. Red flags or not, they dropped the ball big time on this one. That is very much to be determined. I mean, if there are major injury red flags, that is a lot of money to pay for no production. Also, the assumption is pretty educated based on the low return the Indians are getting back.
