  1. They have like 34 guys on the 40 man. Including at least 4-5 who arguably could likely be removed without to much of a fuss.
  2. You forgot Lindblom. IMO Faria was so horrible he doesn't make the team and he is out of options. Stearns has indicated they would like Suter and Peralta to be in the pen. I can't imagine how Burnes doesn't start the year in AAA. Both quantity and quality are severely lacking right now. It's still only Dec. 13th and I believe Stearns has more surprises up his sleeve I know exactly what you mean, and I agree with you. That said, to me Brett Anderson is quite possibly the LEAST surprising David Stearns acquisition in his history as the team's GM. After looking at his numbers and offerings, I honestly can't believe no one has really mentioned him as a potential signing. If anyone screams "value signing propped up by analytics, it's probably this guy.
  3. So basically still cheaper than Chase Anderson, even if he pitches better than Chase Anderson. When guys like Roark and Gausman are signing for anywhere between $9-$12 million, this looks like a steal. But it's only a steal, I guess, if they actually turn around and use this savings to improve somewhere else.
  4. Trust me ... if this team were terrible, and had a track record of terribleness, I'd be right with you guys questioning these sort of moves. I was right at the top of the heap bashing the Wade Miley signing in spring 2018 once upon a time. But you know what ... I was wrong. Dead wrong. This team has made it a habit the last three years taking underwhelming pitching talent and getting the most they possibly can out of it (Davies and Anderson in 2017, Miley in 2018, Lyles last year) . And frankly, they converted me. Could they lose my support on moves like this? Sure ... if we see a few of these guys fail, I will be a lot more skeptical. But right now, they've earned at least the benefit of the doubt, at least in my eyes.
  5. I've been thinking for years that Stearns was just waiting to snag a TOR starting pitcher, but perhaps it's just not in his organizational philosophy to do that? Maybe this is just what we can expect - picking up solid if unspectacular and undervalued starting pitchers that can pitch well enough to keep the team in games. I mean, this is starting to be a trend now. We basically replaced Chase Anderson and Zach Davies with left-handed versions of those guys. I think that's just the team's philosophy when it comes to starting pitching. The "name" guys just aren't worth it.
  6. 13-9 with a 3.89 ERA in the AL West last year, so far from it actually. Keep up the unsubstantiated hot takes, though There are a lot of negative comments, however, the constant "everything is great" comments can be a bore too. Giving lectures on how people should feel is also pretty old here... I think everyone can benefit from reading this. It is possible to voice opposition to a move in a thought-provoking and non-triggering way. viewtopic.php?f=73&t=39344

  8. Brewer World on Twitter is kind of a goof, but he scooped this one.
  9. https://theathletic.com/1456983/2019/12/12/rosenthal-with-market-for-third-basemen-heating-up-multiple-teams-showing-interest-in-kyle-seager/ Perhaps the easiest path to a trade would be for the Mariners to pay down Seager’s remaining obligation by including cash in the transaction. The Mariners also could make Seager more attractive by including a well-regarded prospect as part of their offer. The team’s farm system has risen from 30th in the majors in 2018 to 11th in ‘19, according to Baseball America, creating a greater number of trade options. Thanks. The issue I see with this is that I don’t think the Mariners are trying to compete quite yet. I don’t think having Seager on their payroll for the next two years will be such an issue that they attach a prospect to rid themselves of him. But if they are willing to attach something of value to move him, fine by me! I originally thought the same thing, but Rosenthal keeps pretty good tabs on this kind of stuff, so if he says it's a possibility, it likely is. Seager is probably more valuable than Cozart, but he's owed a lot more too.
  10. He's mentioned as being another candidate for a Cosart-type trade where the Mariners attach a prospect to Seager to get his contract off their hands. That would be an interesting idea. Do you have a link? I’m interested on where that came from. https://theathletic.com/1456983/2019/12/12/rosenthal-with-market-for-third-basemen-heating-up-multiple-teams-showing-interest-in-kyle-seager/ Perhaps the easiest path to a trade would be for the Mariners to pay down Seager’s remaining obligation by including cash in the transaction. 11. Thank you. The Brewers will be getting a haul for Hader if he is moved. I think it basically starts with a top 10 prospect. Or a couple guys in the top 30 or so. Plus a couple other high end talents. How about this: Angels Receive: LHP Josh Hader Brewers Receive: OF Jo Adell OF Brandon Marsh RHP Jose Soriano RHP Griffin Canning Adell is a top 5 prospect that could realistically be Braun’s replacement after 2020. Marsh has shown well in AA and could be looking at starting in AAA and possibly making an MLB impact in 2020. Soriano dominated in A ball this season and throws upper 90’s with room to grow. He has the makings of being a nice rotation arm in a few years. Canning performed fairly well in his first taste of MLB this season and was a former top 100 prospect (in the 70 range). He will slot into our rotation right away and give us the upside of being a high end #2 pitcher that we will control for 6 years. Looking at the trade simulator (which I think greatly undervalues Hader), Hader for Canning, Soriano, and Marsh comes out pretty close to even with the Brewers getting a slight edge in value. Adell obviously tips it wayyy in the Brewers’ favor, but again Hader is definitely undervalued on there. Maybe the Brewers could add a piece to make it more enticing for the Angels like Peralta. You are correct that the trade simulator undervalues Hader. It also over-values prospects. Case in point the huge decrease in value they assigned to Urias after he was traded to the Brewers.
  12. I saw one yesterday that floated Happ and Andujar for Hader, but that the Brewers would have to add a "package" of prospects because Hader wouldn't be enough
  13. He's mentioned as being another candidate for a Cozart-type trade where the Mariners attach a prospect to Seager to get his contract off their hands. That would be an interesting idea.
  14. Jeff McNeil was an All-Star last year. He's been mentioned in this thread as a potential target. He'd be a solid fit at 3B I think. 27 years old, and broke out in a huge way last year power wise. The high-contact bat has always been there. He's be a nice part of a package.
  15. In 339 PA at AAA last season, 21-22 year old Luis Urias hit .315/.398/.600/.998 with 19 HR and 7 SB, and held his own in the majors in a smaller sample size. He should have tried a little harder to avoid tanking his prospect value I guess Nah ... getting traded to the Brewers tanked his value enough
  16. Tanner Roark is basically Chase Anderson. If we weren't going to pay Anderson, it wouldn't make any sense to do this sort of deal with Roark. Hopefully they are aiming higher ... although it can be assumed, I suppose, that they are also aiming cheaper.
  17. I think it is possible to acquire a starting caliber 1B and/or 3B via trade without dealing Hader. Especially 1B. I have no doubt that they have multiple directions and options to fill those spots. It could be that they have free agent offers out there, and are waiting for decisions to come down before moving on to Plan B or C. Also, I very much doubt there were any 3B or 1B prospects available in the Rule 5 that the team felt comfortable handing a starting spot to on what they continue to say will be a contending team.
  18. Four Brewers were taken in the AAA phase of the Rule 5, so I'm guessing it's the latter. Brown will obviously have an opportunity to rebuild his value this year, but while he has talent, he's not especially special in any given area to a point where a team will dream on his upside. He's probably a back-end rotation guy or swing guy at best right now, if he even makes the majors.
  19. Brewers also lost Nate Griep, Bryan Torres and Jordan Brink in the AAA phase.
  20. Literally no one is throwing Davis's name out there as the main piece coming back.
  21. The METS trade is the one I like most in the list, we get MLB proven players. Syndergaard - we get a potentially Ace type SP Much prefer to get JD Davis instead of Dom Smith, Davis is the better hitter and can play 3B as well as 1B and LF. I like J.D. Davis as well, but the Brewers have recently shown a preference gravitating toward left-handed hitters at those corner IF power positions, to take advantage of that short RF porch at Miller Park. That makes Smith more of a target in my opinion.
  22. With the addition of Wacha and Porcello, doesn't this type of deal make a bit more sense now with the Mets? Lowrie, Thor and Dom Smith for Hader? Mets would still have a really solid rotation with deGrom, Stroman, Matz, Wacha and Porcello. They don't have room for Smith with Alonso manning 1B for the next 5+ years, and this would get them out of the Lowrie contract. I guess the big question would be - how does Lowrie bounce back from the injury in 2020 and can he play 3B adequately for us? And, are we confident that Dom Smith is going to be a high-level 1B in this league? The more and more I think about this offer - the more doubts I think I'd have about Lowrie and Smith. We'd be relying on two big question marks then at 3B and 1B, and I doubt we'd be willing to do that heading into a year where we are trying to compete. Also, you'd have some question marks with Thor coming off of a pretty blah year for him. Not sure if I'd do this deal for Hader? I might be more interested in it if they replaced Dom Smith with JD Davis - assuming that Davis can play a decent 1B. I think Dom Smith would hold more appeal to the Brewers, as his left-handed power may play up a bit better than Davis's right-handed bat in Miller Park ... although Davis has proven more at the big league level.
  23. According to reports yesterday, there was a National League team that showed interest in Encarnacion, but he has apparently told teams that he only wants to play in the AL. I'm assuming that he's only interested in being a DH.
  24. I'm settled LOL. Just questioning the tone, that's all. Having the best reliever in baseball for the 2020 season is far from a bad thing. I have never gotten the idea through all this that the Brewers are actively shopping Hader, but were listening. I was thinking there was maybe a 40% chance they deal him this offseason, but after reading this, I will amend that to maybe a 25% chance.
