  1. It's been pretty much educated speculation. It is pretty easy to connect the dots, though. The Dodgers were a favorite to get to the World Series, but a pen implosion/lack of solid pen depth can be blamed for them not getting there. They are an organization that takes the "go big or go home" philosophy to shoring up problem areas. They also have a totally stacked farm system and multiple young player depth at spots where the Brewers have huge needs. Acquiring a 25-year old two-time-consecutive reliever of the year with multiple years of team control, while dealing from positions of extreme depth, makes almost perfect sense.
  2. Rios certainly fits the bill as a LH power bat who is capable of playing multiple positions. His best spot is 1B, but he can also play 3B and the corner OF. Really does seem like a Stearns-type guy. Wong is also a very versatile guy who spent time at 3B. This is the exact type of deal I see the Brewers making if they were to deal Hader ... getting a young proven major league piece back, along with two prospects who are pretty much ready for the show. Nice work! This is the best package I've seen yet. I love Hader, but I think I'd do this deal, as it shores up SS, 1B and C with some really solid upside.
  3. He brings high velocity and has name recognition. Been a overly hyped guy for a long time. Numbers don't really point to anything special, though. I'd rather take Kyle Gibson and Jordan Lyles and probably still have a nice chunk of change left over.
  4. That and there's almost no cost to it. He plays one of the most replaceable positions in the game. He's been a good LB'er and he'd more likely be cheap to pick up. Also...BJ Goodson. After sitting on the streets for two and half weeks prior to being signed by the Arizona Cardinals, Zach Brown has now been released for the 2nd time this season. This latest divorce coming just 5 days after signing with the Cardinals. If Brown finds a new home this season it will be his 6th since 2016. No, nothing up with this guy though. Could be just that he's not very good, too. I'm actually betting that's the case.
  5. You're right, that flag is pretty horrid. If you're talking about the logo, though .... they changed the seams on the baseball. Whatever.
  6. He hit 32 HR combined in AA, AAA and majors in 2018. I think the Brewers expect 20+ from him in 2020. Steamer has a lot more confidence in a rebound from Shaw than I do. Steamer has a lot more confidence in a Shaw rebound than what seems like 99% of Brewer fans, which I'm having a hard time understanding. It's as if these people believe that the guy's career started in 2019. He isn't at the age where you typically see major decline (I know I know Chris Davis ... but he's an outlier). There is obvious risk and questions marks, but I find it hard to believe that the guy can go from great in 2017, and very good in 2018, to the worst hitter in the majors in 2019, without there being some kind of fixable reason behind it.
  7. Pissed off Aaron Rodgers is typically sublime Aaron Rodgers, and I think after last week's rotten egg, he's pretty pissed. I think the offense has a big day because of that. Slowing down McCaffrey is obviously the key to the defensive game plan. I predict something like a 35-28 game.
  8. I don't believe that Bird is a free agent unless the Yankees non-tender him. He's only in his 2nd arbitration year.
  9. I don't think it's that simple. Part of it is scheme, and part of it is having a QB that doesn't trust the guys at the position. So much of that offense's production is predicated on receivers knowing where to go to find an open spot when Rodgers scrambles and comes out of the pocket. Guys like Nelson, Cobb and James Jones just had that innate ability to find an open window for Rodgers to get them the ball. This new crew, especially MVS, hasn't found that ability yet. We are starting to see it more with Lazard ... which is why I think we're going to see him become the de facto #2 WR through the rest of the year. Rodgers seems to trust him, and looks for him when plays are breaking down. When was the last time you say MVS catch an outlet pass? I LOVE MVS's potential, but he's still so green. It feels like you just described to me the Brewers starting rotation compared to other teams that have the ability to spend money. This isn't the NFL. Go out and get some real players at these positions. We make so many excuses for these guys because they are Packers. They have Aaron freaking Rodgers as their QB and can make it happen. Lazard is no ones #2. He's a good story stepping in for this sad sack of WR's and that is about it. Hell, put some weight on him and he's probably more serviceable than Jimmy Graham. Not that it's too hard to beat these days. I agree, and truly hope they address the lack of talent in the WR room this offseason, through both coaching up the guys they have, and looking outside the organization for talent. For this year, though, our only alternative is polishing that turd until it shines.
  10. Because people are stupid. Waiting in a huge line for Burger King? Really? I sort of understand the Popeyes thing because there isn't one around every corner. That isn't the case with Burger King, though. It's just a totally generic fast food chain!
  11. No you don’t. Arby salaries aren’t guaranteed. If he still looks lost in Spring Training, you cut bait and move on. Yeah but your paying $800K+ to see what Shaw looks like. That is quite a chunk of change, especially if you plan to do the same thing with Nelson. That is true. There is some risk involved. It just isn't the high level of risk initially implied. I personally think they bring Nelson back. Shaw is a tougher call. I would personally do it, but the Brewers may go a different direction. I think a lot of that decision is going to come down to what the FA market looks like by the tender deadline.
  12. It's a bummer that St. Brown went down in the preseason. He's basically a faster, more athletic version of Lazard. I think Allison and Kumerow are on borrowed time by this point. Both are OK enough, but there's just not much upside there. I very much expect the Packers to spend a high pick on a receiver next year. They very much could use a fast slot-type.
  13. Yep. That's why I'm inclined to not even dangle him. If a team comes to you with a strong package, you listen. But I'm not taking any offer that is constituted with a bunch of 19-year-old A ballers very seriously. His Super 2 status is a blow to his value, but the Brewers still hold all the cards, and by no means do they have to deal him.
  14. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Lazard was soon the #2. He seems to me the only receiver Rodgers trusts other than Adams. The Packers don't have a #2 WR. I would even go as far as saying they don't have a #3. They have Adams and a group of #4s. But I agree, Lazard should be tossed in the lineup because nobody is getting it done. I sort of get the idea that the Packers expected MVS to make a jump in his second year that just hasn't happened. He's obviously shown flashes, and has every measureable you'd look for in a WR, but he hasn't been able to put it together yet. I think he's learning that you just can't get by on blazing speed alone in the NFL when 90% of DBs also run in the 4.4s. That's what Jeff Janis never got past. Physically MVS and Janis are quite similar. With Janis it was a mental thing. We'll see if that ends up dooming MVS as well. He's obviously still very young and has time.
  15. Interesting that, while the projected numbers for Shaw aren't spectacular, they don't have him falling flat on his face, either. I'd gladly take 25 HRs, 74 RBIs and a .778 OPS from him if the plan is to make him a regular. Also note that Arcia is projected to have a better OPS than Iglesias.

  17. I wouldn't touch Atlanta starting pitching prospects with a 100-foot pole. Overhyped, overrated junk. It's why they are constantly stealing and begging for starting pitching despite having all these "highly-rated" starters in their system.
  18. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Lazard was soon the #2. He seems to me the only receiver Rodgers trusts other than Adams.
  19. No you don’t. Arby salaries aren’t guaranteed. If he still looks lost in Spring Training, you cut bait and move on.
  20. Then you don't "get". The Brewers are under no pressure or obligation to deal Hader this offseason. If he's dealt, it isn't going to be for a blocked 1B as the headliner, and a bunch of "maybes" years away from the majors. It would be for a haul that includes either super high-end youngsters or a package of high-upside ML-ready players. If you don't see offers like that, simply don't engage.
  21. Out of curiosity, which of the Top 35 free agents does Jim Bowden predict Brewers will sign? I'm feeling maybe a RHP Julio Teheran on a 2 year deal myself. He didn't predict who would sign them, just multiple best fits. The Brewers were probably listed as a fit for 20-25 of the 35 guys.
  22. All those guys, save Perdomo (who was signed to the 40-man) are now free agents. Personally, they only guy on that list I would be bummed to lose is Hager. He's been solid in his two years as Brewer property, and could theoretically challenge for a utility role with the big club at some point next year.
  23. I'd keep it in Daylight Savings all year. Give me all the afternoon daylight I can get. I don't care if it's dark when I go to work in the morning.
  24. Huge "right the ship" game for the Packers. Panthers are a solid team, and Christian McCaffrey is a beast. If I'm the Packers, I load up the box, make Savage, Amos or Campbell (if activated) a spy on McCaffrey, and make Allen beat them. They also need to find a way to incorporate Burks into the defense. They are just getting embarrassed due to the lack of speed on the second level.
  25. I don't know. Doesn't seem like a Stearns guy to me. I agree. I think he's too much of an injury risk for the Brewers to take a chance on. Jason Castro probably makes a little more sense as a platoon mate with Pina. Not a great average, but he takes his walks and is solid behind the dish.
