  1. So those are issues for the Brewers, but not for a team looking to trade for him? What in the world makes you think that they'd be able to deal Cain without taking a bath or not having to take an equal horrible contract in return?
  2. He's defied expectations as a starter so far, and proven a lot of posters here wrong in the process. I hope that continues. He’s defied the majority of posters for sure, but not the brewers, who knew going into the year he had a starters arsenal and would likely flourish if given the opportunity to start. This team doesn’t need to spend 30 million a year on an Ace, they already have one budding in Woodruff and a solid #3 in Houser, with the stuff and command of a #2 potentially moving forward. Tired of the “this team can’t develop TOR starting pitching” talk. It’s already happening as we speak. To be fair, Houser was developed as a starter in the Astros organization. He was already in AA and angling for a AAA call-up when dealt to the Brewers. The Brewers did do a solid job seeing him through his TJ rehab.
  3. It is the definition of pessimism, but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. So you say the team doesn't have the talent to hang with the big boys, then say they can't take unnecessary risks? That's contradictory. If a team cannot hang with the big boys, wouldn't they HAVE to take risks, such as the one they did in 2018 when they decided to pay Wade Miley $2.5 million? The <$5 million Nelson is going to make in arbitration is not a large commitment at all in the whole scheme of things.
  4. If they deal him, they are going to have to take back a contract like Johnny Cueto's, who still has two years and nearly $50 million remaining. Would you take the chance on a 34-year-old coming off TJ surgery and making that kind of money the next two seasons? Because that's the type of player you are going to get back unless you decide to eat a huge portion of Cain's remaining deal ... but then, what would be the point? If the Brewers had a surefire young CF option waiting in the wings who could come in and provide some semblance of near the offense and defense that Cain provides, then I'd get it more. But they don't have that. Grisham may be able to provide the offense, but he's not a CF, and never will be.
  5. He's defied expectations as a starter so far, and proven a lot of posters here wrong in the process. I hope that continues.
  6. Unless you are, in fact, David Stearns, there is no way you know this. You are speculating, based on the rough go a guy has had coming off a major surgery. Honestly, I have no idea what the future is for Nelson. But if the Brewers have stuck with him this long, it certainly wouldn't surprise me to see them bring him back next year. It’s logic. He’s making 3.7 million this year. If tendered, Nelson will certainly file for a raise with the arbitrator; and it’s unlikely he settles for a pay cut. So they’d be looking at paying 5 million dollars or so for a middle reliever with poor major league stats post injury. There are better relief pitchers that could be had for 5 million than Nelson. With one year of control remaining and a handful of young arms on the roster plus a Anderson and Davies he’s not a good bet for the rotation either. That isn't logic, though. It's pessimism. Stating that Nelson's ceiling is "looking at paying 5 million dollars or so for a middle reliever with poor major league stats post injury" is 100% a pessimistic, glass half empty view. Which is fine ... but I would hope that the powers that be have a little more optimism. Is there a chance that your prediction comes true? Yes, sure there is. But is there the chance that a guy known as an extremely driven, hard worker can remake himself as an effective starter? Yes, there is. Nelson is healthy, his velocity is there and he can throw all his pitches again. Often the last thing to return to a pitcher after a serious upper body injury is command, and that's where Nelson has struggled.
  7. Trading him would end up being extremely tough, because the Brewers would need to either eat a large portion of his remaining contract, include a upper-end prospect(s) in a deal to get a team to take on Cain's contract, or take on a similar horrible contract for an underperforming past-his-prime veteran (good luck finding one of those). You make it sound like if they don't want him they can just trade him off easy peasy, and it just doesn't work like that.

  9. I believe that Suter and Nelson can be activated after Sept. 1 and be playoff eligible, but Freitas would not be, as the AAA IL has no bearing on MLB rules.
  10. Perhaps they've realized that Grisham is a liability on defense playing CF?
  11. Yep ... joining the Athletic
  12. I get this argument, but at the same time, Braun is as hot as he's been in probably a couple years, so if he can play, he should be out there. I think they are trying to get Cain going, to, and that won't happen if he sits.
  13. It's going to be doubly depressing when he's throwing gems for the Cards, Cubs or Reds down the stretch.
  14. Eduardo Escobar should never, ever see the SS position. Moose would likely be better there defensively at this point.
  15. Wouldn't Roegner be Rule 5 eligible this offseason? He's the type of advanced age high floor arm I could see a team grabbing. There is no way the Brewers protect him.
  16. I really doubt that they are going to sacrifice depth at the major league level during a playoff chase to make sure the AAA affiliate is primed for a playoff run. At least I sure hope they think that way. Having successful minor league teams is very nice, but the end goal of the whole system is, in the end, winning games and making the playoffs at the major league level.
  17. Saladino is injured. Also, San Antonio's possible playoff schedule could factor into the timing of some call ups. They'll probably just activate him then waive him. Also, I doubt the playoff schedule is going to make a huge difference.
  18. You said you would grade these unbiased, but it appears you did the exact opposite in an effort to prove your point.
  19. Excellent contribution. Now I remember why I have to make an extra click to read your posts. Oh man, lost another fan. No, really I thought your post was hilarious. But carry on, you’re doing well tonight. He lost me with already grading the Dubon for Pomeranz/Black and the Aguilar for Faria deals as losses. I bet he's also the type that refers to fans who actually support the moves the team makes as "Kool Aid drinkers". Yeah, those types are awesome
  20. He's gotta be hurt. I can't think of another explanation.
  21. 100 mph FB on the outside corner for that K. Man, if they can teach Black some consistency, and perhaps a little better off-speed pitch, they may have something here.
  22. Just saw 100. Other than maybe Woodruff last year once or twice, I can't recall another Brewer pitcher getting that. Knebel maybe?
  23. No one should ever be untouchable. Some guys are just much tougher to get than others.
  24. Hiura seems like the type that the Astros would be all over. Maybe for a package of Whitley and an infielder like Nova, Toro or Jeremy Pena?
  25. I agree with you there. But I imagine that most teams are going to stack their lineups with righties against Ray, so I would think a lot of them would be in a similar situation.
