  1. Making that move is within the rules, but the lefty getting the final out of the 5th would get the win. That's generally how it works, but I think the scorer has some discretion on who to give the win. I specifically remember once this year Hader pitched maybe the 7th and 8th inning and was given the win over whoever completed the 5th inning. Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the official scorer judgement call thing because it rarely happens. I suppose if the starting pitcher came back in as a reliever in the 6th after moving to the OF after 5 2/3 innings, there may be a good chance they would be awarded the win then. Of course, it depends on the situation. This is just the type of weird move i could see Counsell doing, though. Say Woodruff is cruising in the Wild Card game, but a dangerous lefty power hitter who has good career numbers against him, comes up with 2 outs in the 5th inning ... then I could see Counsell going to Claudio for one batter before Woody comes back out for the 6th. You be wasting a position player by moving Woody to LF for one AB though.

  3. I feel like every time Braun chases a low, outside slider it gets magnified because we all remember what he once was. But the truth is that while he isn't that MVP-level hitter anymore, he's still a bat that any team would be happy to have penciled into its lineup 5 times a week. Because he's at an age where a lot of players tend to decline significantly to sub-replacement level, I'll take a relatively healthy, productive Ryan Braun as long as I can.
  4. This being the optimism thread, I'm going to say they go 17-1 in that stretch. I would have said 18-0, but you have to be realistic
  5. While he could have phrased it better for sure (without saying you were whining), I get where he was coming from. He just wants the posters who complain to have a better solution in mind. In this case, the options are pretty much nonexistent. But they also announced last week that Davies would be getting a start in the Cardinal series, so I don't think the pitching usage over the weekend made any difference. It does suck that they don't have a better alternative, because I agree that Davies could likely benefit by making a rehab start or two to determine if he's got his command on track.
  6. Granted Davies hasn't been on the IL for a very long time, but it isn't like he was pitching well when he went on. Command was all over the place. I guess I would say I'm hopeful that he'll be fine tonight, but it's tough to have a ton of optimism.
  7. Theres no doubt that Davis is talented. But there's also the old adage that "you can't make the club in the tub", and that applies fully to him as well. There was some scuttle butt that they tried to deal him last year, but he was hurt (again). I think their patience for this guy is just about done. He just doesn't have the frame to stand up to the rigors and pounding a NFL WR and returner takes.
  8. In my opinion, this move is "meh". It has nothing to do with Kang's behavior or criminal past. I just don't think he's very good.
  9. I think he will, I think Davis / Moore are the odd men out. One of those two will almost certainly be cut, right? I think it’s pretty likely they keep 4 TE and a FB, which probably means only 5 WR (6 at most). But who does the returns? I think both Davis and Moore are goners. Perhaps they try to sneak Moore onto the practice squad, but I imagine another team will see those measurables and 4th round pedigree and claim him. Davis is completely useless. If you cannot even come close to staying healthy, you have no value. They seem pretty enamored with Darrius Shepard. I could see them hanging onto him as the 5-6th WR and kick/punt returner. Whoever wins the 3rd string RB job could also return kicks, and perhaps a reserve CB on punts?
  10. Can a Fall League player be on the 40-man roster? If so, I imagine Bobby Wahl may be a possibility. I would imagine they'd like to get him some innings if he is completely recovered from his knee injury, so as to hit the ground running a little quicker next year.
  11. Kang also has odd career platoon splits that indicate he will be of no help against left-handed pitching.
  12. Will be interesting to see if they continue to platoon Grisham, or if he has played himself into a full-time role? Corbin is a rough matchup for him, on paper at least. I'm also excited to see what Houser can do coming off his best start of the year. Hopefully that was a corner-turning start, and he can be a solid rotation piece down the stretch.
  13. Righty 3B bat = good ... but then you look at his career splits against lefties ... barf
  14. If sarcasm is blue, perhaps we need a color dedicated to joke posts? Like blue and red, because the Cubs will always be a joke
  15. Do you think that the qualifying offer reimbursement is the only reason he didn't get an offer like that last year? I had heard the Mets made him an offer, but I didn't think it was that big. While he's having a solid season, I don't know if he's done a ton to raise his value significantly.
  16. You are skewing statistics to suit your argument. Now let me try. I am almost positive that DHonks is referring to JJ's last three appearances, where he's pitched a total of 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit ball. Small sample to be sure, but there's no denying that he has looked better over the last week. Isn't using the last three games also skewing the stats to fit the argument? Yes ... hence why I prefaced it by saying "let me try"
  17. Or another way of looking at it: Don’t be afraid to speak your mind. Don’t sandbag, don’t fear being wrong. To call someone “crazy” or “he’s lost it now” like you’ve said to me, or calling someone a “knob” or a “tool” like you have numerous times to other posters, imo, suppresses some on this board from speaking what’s on their mind. But in my case, I don’t care that you, and Joey, feel the need to make snide comments on an extraordinary amount of my posts, just like this morning, but I’m sure some do care on this site when it’s done to them. Oh give it a rest with this martyr stuff. You constantly make outlandish predictions, rarely owning them when they are flat out wrong. That's on top of taking over threads with repeated ideas and rants, such as your grousing on the payroll and organizational profits. Then you look for gratification when one of your predictions turns out to be right? Sheesh.
  18. I liked his plate discipline just from seeing the numbers, but did worry about the hit-for-average tool. I had Stokes higher than him for the most part in the past. His dominance at AA/AAA, splitting the levels, gave him a two-spot edge in my latest ballot, but. Wait, what? You question Grisham's hit-for-average tool, but give Stokes a pass? Not only is Stokes nine months OLDER than Grisham, his career minor league average is worse. IMO, barring a Grisham-level jump, Stokes may be in danger of losing his 40-man spot this offseason.
  19. Binged both seasons of Cobra Kai on YouTube last week. Parts of it are pretty hokey, but it was a fun trip down nostalgia lane for this '80s kid. Watching a show told from Johnny Lawrence's perspective really makes you go back and see the original movies differently too.
  20. As long as you can stomach the enormous defensive downgrade at the most important defensive OF position. I think an OF of Yelich in RF, Grisham in CF and Braun in LF would arguably be the worst defensive OF in baseball.

  22. But just think of all the wrong things you’ve said too. Do you see how that works? It’s why we are posting on a message board and not nearly qualified to make that call. So quick to try to be right but honestly, what about all the wrong... Quick would be calling for his promotion to MKE more than a month ago, TO HELP IGNITE THIS OFFENSE! Funny all the people lambasting me about that one. But that’s ok, at least most know now he’s a real stud core player moving forward. Yeah, if it were up to you, Aaron Wilkerson would be anchoring the staff right now as well based on his good first 1 1/2 months in AAA, and Rasmussen and Perdomo would be heading up the shut-down pen. When you make as many outlandish predictions as you have this year, eventually the law of averages dictates that you nail one. This is not an invitation to pat yourself on the back, though.
  23. Or take on another bad contract
