  1. There's always value for big physical guys with speed like him. He can help out in sub packages and he could become a ST's ace. Plus he's cheap. He's just fallen way short of our expectations and hasn't been the playmaker we hoped he'd be. He can still play the run and play TE's pretty effectively. He's a terrible starting safety though. He is a pretty terrible starting safety. But if they employ him in the role they initially intended, as a fast coverage ILB, there may be something there. He certainly looks the part, but I'm just not sure he's got the toughness and tackling ability to handle it. I think we'll find out, though, as barring injury, there is no way he's going to be close to a starting job in the defensive backfield.
  2. I think its pretty obvious that they are building Nelson up to 100 pitch limit, which would seem to defy piggybacking in my opinion. I just have trouble seeing it as a viable option, especially for a manager like Counsell who seems to really value having as many bullpen bullets in the clip as he can.
  3. I too was struggling to understand this one. Lyles is at worst a solid, very affordable long reliever capable of providing multiple innings of relief in an outing. He has also showed a live arm capable of bring it in the upper 90s with decent movement, and solid secondary stuff. I thought he was an ideal bottom of the pen arm, as he brings a lot of attributes that this team's front office values. It is obvious they must have saw something different. Perhaps they saw the good number of solid arms they were bringing back this year and decided having someone like Lyles kicking around was a luxury they didn't need?
  4. It's going to be very interesting to see what the decision is on Nelson come the end of the week. With all of the off days coming up, going to a 6-man rotation doesn't make a ton of sense, but the nice results of the starting staff have made the choice of who to remove very difficult. If you were going to look just at results, Chacin makes sense. But he's also a notorious slow starter, and has proven to be a solid mid rotation arm who's past results strongly indicate that he should maintain a rotation spot. Davies, Woodruff and Gonzalez have been terrific, so they won't be going anywhere. It comes down to whether they want to leave Anderson in the rotation or shift him back to long relief.
  5. Wow, some of you guys are too much. Yelich is batting .325, has a .440 OBP (!!!), has 19 HRs by May 19(!), and is OPSing an other-worldly 1.172, and you are finding holes? Sheesh.
  6. It's a good thing "should be's" don't count then
  7. Rough game. Bucks are still in firm control of this series, though.
  8. Textbook charge ... what a horrid call.
  9. Bucks are playing like crap tonight, but still have superior athleticism and depth. When combined with the foul trouble and lack of depth Toronto has, they should pull away now. The Raptors are a tough team, though. Very tough.
  10. Bump. I have to believe his current numbers would put him in the top 20% of starting MLB outfielders. If you were going to hate on him when the numbers were bad, time to wear it when he moves back closer to his mean performance. This is where Braun ranks among 73 MLB OF for: fWAR (0.5) = 43/73 (his defense is still a liability) wRC+ (118) = 34/73 wOBA (.350) = 31/73 For those who need help with the math, top 20% would be 14th place and higher... Not quite top 20%, maybe average or slightly above average and all for only $18M... What a deal... You have no argument here. Braun is a veteran player at the end of his deal. There are no other options other than just playing out the string. It's a guaranteed contract, so if they cut him, they eat it. No one is going to trade for it. What are you arguing for here ... because it seems to me that you are complaining simply to complain.
  11. I agree, he does nothing but get outs, and it seems they have even taken the closer role partially away from him and given it to Barker.
  12. Brandon Woodruff = STOPPER! Hopefully Woody pitches another gem today, and the Brewers can escape with a .500 road trip.
  13. There are some who don't want Kimbrel but if we (Stearns) do why wait until after the draft? Just curious... The Brewers wouldn't have to give up their 4th rounder then. I personally highly doubt that's what's standing in the way, but Brew crew 92 really wants Kimbrel, and has for awhile, so I imagine he's trying to find every straw to grasp onto.
  14. Agreed. Not Counsell's finest managerial moment. I think he immediately knew it too. He keeps on trying to shoehorn Claudio into a late-inning stopper role, and he may be nothing more than a solid, but soon-to-be-extinct LOOGY.
  15. Welp ... that sucked. Don't see Hader get owned by a power lefty like that too often.
  16. I think Hiura scores easy even if Donaldson would have gloved Cain's chopper.
  17. Stokes is not MLB ready. He has just 44 ABs in AAA ball. As of now he is hitting .189 for San Antonio and striking out 1/3 of his ABs. Stokes could be part of the package, but he's not what the Giants would want for immediate help. I don't know if the Crew has what the Giants want for Smith. I don't know if Stearns would give up what the Giants want for a rental. I think this is the right answer. Even though I think some here might be assigning too much value to Smith, the teams still need to match up on the prospects to make the deal happen. It depends if the Giants are looking for guys they can plug onto the MLB roster immediately, or if they are looking for younger higher upside guys. The Brewers obviously have a decent sized pool of both types of players, but nobody really knows where they value them. So the only real right answer is "I don't know."
  18. I get it. You like Burnes. But he was a trash heap tonight, and has been bad a lot this year. That's on him, not Counsell. Perhaps tonight was hopefully a learning experience for him. But if he has another bad outing, I'm betting he'll be on a plane for San Antonio very soon.
  19. Burnes down for Anderson... get Burnes straightened out. Stearns not sending Burnes to AAA. He’s pitching in this pen, thank you very much for your concern though. Unless you are David Stearns or Craig Counsell, you don't know this. After his outing tonight, it doesn't not make sense to send him down. By the way, Barnes looked great tonight.
