  1. Its a good thing he's a demi-god at Miller park then. I'm sure things will even out.
  2. It doesn’t matter what the record is. How can you watch this team and not see how awful they are in all parts of the game right now? That’s why there’s the doom and gloom. They certainly went through streaks last year where they looked this bad (the 5-game Pirates series immediately comes to mind). I don't know if any were as prolonged, though.
  3. Why would you think that he couldn't? Perhaps he could have. I don't remember him as an incredibly patient hitter. We'll never know.
  4. Also, that is why Gamel is on this team. I don't know if Santana would have/could have put together an at-bat like that.
  5. Well, this is setting up for much more drama than expected.
  6. Why did we give up on Domingo Santana? Especially when Braun is a shell of his former self? http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/_/id/31931/domingo-santana The Brewers tried to trade Santana for over a year. It was obvious that for whatever reason they didn't feel he was a fit for what they were trying to do. Also, they traded him. They didn't give up on him. They got a quality 4th OF and a pitching prospect for him.
  7. He was pretty good albeit in limited time as a reliever for us. I think guys have a different approach coming out the pen for a couple innings than knowing they have to pace themselves for a long outing, so it's hard to know or compare. His relief career literally consists of one 1-inning appearance and two piggyback starts. I mean, I'm willing to give it a shot, but there is really no track record there.
  8. Strongly agree. Do we actually have anyone better than Jeffress in the bullpen? Hader maybe. Anyone else? Well, we've been told that Jeffress' return was going to be a disaster, so ...
  9. He was pretty darn good in that one postseason relief appearance --- 3 IP, 0 hits, 0 runs, 6 ks --- https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/LAN/LAN201810160.shtml He was. But that doesn't change the fact that his relief experience is an extremely small sample. I almost wonder if that was a piggyback situation where he knew he was pitching, though, too. Given his propensity to be bad in the 1st inning in his starts, I wouldn't trust him in a relief role. That said ... I don't trust anyone right now, so who knows?
  10. He only made one true relief appearance in the regular season last year (not counting the game Jennings "started"), and I think one in the playoffs.
  11. I've made that 2012 comparison a lot around here and sadly I think it's going to be right about where things end up. They'll start scoring a lot eventually. But these guys can't pitch. Most MLB SP, even average guys, can toss 4 innings. If your pen is incredible you can win doing that. Except we can't get through the first 3 innings anymore. And the pen can't protect anything. If you look at the offense on that 2012 team, it's impressive, in a bad way, that it didn't win more. That was one potent offensive team. I don't think this offense will be long ball or nothing all year, but I don't think they can pitch. They gambled big time on the young starters and the worst case scenario is unfolding - all three are wildly unreliable. And it looks much bigger than getting one starter or Kimbrel. The big difference I foresee is that I believe that Stearns will be much more aggressive in acquiring different pitching options than Melvin was in 2009 and 2012. Whether those acquisitions will be successful is a different story, but he doesn't strike me as the type to sit on his hands through a long-term weakness.
  12. I keep seeing Peralta mentioned as a potential reliever. Given how horrific he has been in the 1st inning, is that a good idea? Honestly, Burnes and Woodruff profile better as relievers, but they are probably forced to keep Woody in the rotation for now.
  13. How was Ozuna ever considered a good outfielder? He is horrid out there.
  14. Perhaps. Someone is going to have to fall on the sword if this continues.
  15. That would be my argument for the people blaming the pitching issues on Chris Hook. It isn't Hook's fault that the pitchers have been so horrible hitting their spots, and that it seems like every time they miss, it is a meatball down the middle.
  16. Also annoying: watching other teams play station-to-station baseball, while knowing that the current Brewers are seemingly unfamiliar with this concept.
  17. This team takes so man called 3rd strikes. It's annoying.
  18. I agree, but hindsight being 20/20, I'm sure they figured on better results from their young trio.
  19. [sarcasm]Yes, and our current staff is awesome.[/sarcasm] Why is this better? If the the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, I suppose this is a sane move.
  20. Given how the current rotation options have looked, I think we need to define a few different degrees of "terrible".
  21. I really like the creativity. I fear that the Brewers are giving up too much though. Stroman should be a buy low, and Giles is kind of a head case. On paper, though, and in a vacuum, a deal like this makes a ton of sense. Which is why it probably doesn't stand a chance of happening, unfortunately.
  22. I don't think the record at this point is a huge surprise or a big concern. It's more about how bad we've looked that is concerning. Posts like this is why we need a like button on this forum. Is it possible to lose and still look good?
  23. As I have said before, he is not a needle mover, he is nothing more than a place holder. If the money involved with signing him causes us to not put money into an actual needle mover in the future, I am against this signing. I don't want to waste money on this guy, that could have gone into someone else later. I think Mark will be fine after doling out $2 million Yeah, that is "place holder" money for sure. Give him 3-4 starts and see what he has left. If it works out, great. If not ... well, the starters are getting shelled anyway, so no real loss.
