  1. I've seen both Williams and Taylor to the Packers at #12 in quite a few mocks. I personally would rather wait until #30 and grab Risner, but there's a chance he goes in the 20s. I agree, though, that OL depth is a huge need, even with the Turner signing. Risner is a guy I think can start immediately at G, and kick out to RT in 2020.
  2. If that lineman is Ed Oliver, heck yes, sign me up. If it is Wilkins, I'm not a big fan.
  3. I was feeling pretty good ... but these numbers are discouraging. I was a big proponent of the idea that moving from Johnson to Hook wouldn't be much of a difference, but so far appearances are quite the opposite. Of course, maybe the Brewers just managed to catch lightning in a bottle last year, and things are evening out now. And thankfully its still early.
  4. He should be in AAA, and with the way this pen is pitching, on the cusp of the majors.
  5. Those last two posts have gone along way in helping restore my faith in Brewer fandom today. Thanks guys. The Stearns and Attanasio bashing is making the posters who are doing it look foolish. You guys sound like the spoiled kid whose parents sprung for the top-end new bike, but he's complaining because it doesn't make the engine sound like Johnny's next door.
  6. Well he's likely unavailable today so a fresh arm. Plus doesn't STL only really have Carpenter and Wong as lefties, whereas almost all of LAD is lefty. So a 2nd lefty specialist seems redundant. That would be my best guess. CC's bullpen and starters are a train wreck right now. Pen and the starters are the 2nd worst in NL. Dinger after dinger after dinger allowed. Even Hader has been bitten by the HR bug. Hart is a LOOGY at best and horrible against RH hitters. Barnes ERA of 8.00 and is completely unreliable. Petricka is an AAA pitcher at his peak. Williams already sent down, Albers 6.23 ERA and 3 HRs in less than 9 IPs. Wilson 7.20 ERA and 1.7 WHIP, Wilkerson 6.23 ERA and 11 hits allowed in 5 innings. The young starters giving up 5 or more runs per start. Houser certainly wasn't the answer, allowing 2 more HRs for the league leading Crew and failing to get past the 4th inning. Brewers as a team in the NL: Most HRs allowed -- 2nd worst in: runs allowed - ERA - Walks - Total Bases given up. CC is getting shell-shocked watching the nightmare unfold. Imagine what this team could do with just average pitching! Well ... I know you at least feel better now after unloading all that. But yeah ... 138 games left.
  7. I'll happily take the L tonight if it means Shaw is going to break out of it.
  8. At least the clancyphile dream scenario IF is getting some innings tonight.
  9. I almost wonder if the success of guys like Miley, Jeffress and Chacin last year give this team's front office a false sense that they could turn lead into gold when it comes to the pitching staff? I wasn't a big believer that Derek Johnson made that much of a difference, but that resolve is starting to waiver. Or maybe, just maybe, last year was a bit of lightning in a bottle. That was pretty much the feeling I got watching a gas can like Wade Miley pitch like and ace and throw up 0 after 0 nearly every time out. If that is the case, it's a good thing this team is built to compete now and later. The last thing I want to see is them make a bunch of high-priced "go for it" trades, completely decimate the farm, then auction off the remaining talent in a couple years. That's why they need to stick with these home-grown guys and build this thing to compete both now and for the long haul.

  11. All I know is that fans are going to clamoring for him if this crap continues.
  12. I know its easy to take the "Well, it's not my money" philosophy, but the money this team has available to make outside acquisitions is still limited. They need to develop their own talent. I'd love to see them win a World Series in the next 2-3 years, but I'd also like to see a team that is a contender for the next decade, too. Yep. Mark's ability to make money is a higher priority than winning it all. As long as the drunks keep filling the stands, they don't really care. I mean, a World Series win would be nice, but not at the risk of the bottom line If you honestly believe that, there is nothing that can be said that's going to change your mind. I just hope that you are in the minority.

  14. Jacob Barnes is a very frustrating guy to watch work. Every tool is there.
  15. Lazy defense from Braun there. I know that isn't an easy play, but it's one most ML left fielders make.
  16. Of the three, who do you not give a spot to? All three pitched well enough in their roles last year to earn the opportunity. I'm sure in hindsight they may have made more of an effort to resign Wade Miley, but a lot of the solid starting pitching options went for prices that I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with them paying. They weren't going to be signing guys like Corbin. I would have loved to see them make a play for a guy like James Paxton, but that would have put another big dent in the minor league talent. I'm all for going for it, but you need to develop your talent too.
  17. Another disastrous outing from Jeremy Jeffress tonight! I am very glad he's back. This team needs all the solid relief options they can get.
  18. What's the solution? Seems like they are pretty much trying everything. Let the kids pitch and take the lumps. One step back this year to take a whole bunch of steps forward in the coming years is worth it. None of these guys was ever going to be Kershaw or Scherzer and anyone expecting them to come up and light the world on fire had misguided expectations. Jettisoning them to the pen or a league they have already dominated isn't going to help in terms of being the answer. I think you are spot on. It's going to be very frustrating to watch at times this year, but they are going to come out of it better because of it. I think they spent money on offense with that in mind ... outscore the other team because the pitching isn't going to shut anyone down. And that's fine. These top teams in the NL are going to beat the heck out of each other this year, and the Brewers are liking going to be in the thick of things at the end. It will be interesting to see how long they keep Burnes down for. I think he's a guy that doesn't have a lot left to prove in AAA.

  20. It's almost like a lot of people don't realize there are like 138 of these things left.
  21. Or they decided to use their bullets on offense, with the hope that the young talent would hold its own. For the most part that hasn't happened.
  22. I thought that was odd too. Saving bullets ... or an audition for a different role?
