  1. Not a ton of risk here. Pretty easy decision given the state of the pitching staff. I imagine he'll be inserted into the rotation immediately.
  2. I think that David Freitas's 40-man days are very limited at this point. I would think Donnie Hart is probably the first to go if they drop a pitcher.
  3. Lots of Twitter chatter this morning that the Brewers are the frontrunner for Gio. He is not the ace-type that a lot of people want, but he would provide a steady arm. It's hard for me to find a lot of fault in a move like this.
  4. Sounds records in their years as a Brewer affiliate: 2005 - 75-69 2006 - 76-68 2007 - 89-55 2008 - 59-81 2009 - 75-69 2010 - 77-67 2011 - 71-73 2012 - 67-77 2013 - 57-87 2014 - 77-67 In 10 seasons, they were competitive in 7. If Sounds ownership were blaming the broken relationship on not having competitive baseball, they are 100% wrong, and frankly that excuse is insulting to fans. What's funny is that the Sounds were trash in two of their four seasons as an A's affiliate, and are sitting at an outstanding 5-13 in their first year as a Rangers affiliate.
  5. True, however, given the way we started the first week, I think it is fair to be worried... This did start out great. Now they are in an obvious skid. They'll get hot again soon, and then they'll look like crap again. Because baseball.
  6. Exactly ... people go to minor league games because its a relatively inexpensive family experience, and the chance to see typically solid baseball, especially at the AAA level. If a minor league team has a few big name prospects, that might help attendance, but those people that truly care about that are the minority. The majority of minor league baseball game attendees are going to care much more about the chance to catch free food out of the hot dog cannon than whether Bubba Derby or Corbin Burnes is pitching that night.
  7. I don't disagree. But it is what it is. Braun is gonna be looked at as a starter as long as he's on this team. The best we can hope for as fans is that he finds a few hot streaks and helps carry the offense in short bursts. Santana was never going to displace Ryan Braun in the lineup, no matter how much sense it made.
  8. you lost me when you said we gave up on him. That's simply not true I don't know why people do this. If you trade a player for value, it's far from giving up on him. The Brewers got a player in Gamel that profiles much better as a 4th OF, which is exactly what they needed, and a young pitching prospect. I'm glad Santana is doing well, but he was always a square peg in a round hole for this team.
  9. I fully expect that with this front office's talent for acquiring and developing ... well ... talent, that their minor league teams are going to be and remain competitive. But having a competitive team at AAA should never, ever trump what the big club is trying to do. And I'm sure all parties involved understand that.
  10. I agree but I will say struggle is putting it lightly when talking about our pitching. Yeah, pitching has been an issue, but they are also facing one top offense after another. If the pitching continues to struggle when they get into games against lesser teams, then it's time to take it more seriously. I'm willing to look past the 3-game bed wetting against the Angels right now. This team NEEDS to be on the right side of a 12-2 laugher soon.
  11. Most everyone looked at the first month of games on the schedule and figured it would be a struggle. So why is it such a surprise that it has been a struggle?
  12. I do like that he's a switch hitter. So sick of watching these all-or-nothing lefty power guys fanning away.
  13. Positives: 1. Shaw seems to be breaking out of his slump. 2. Davies pitched effectively, albeit not efficiently. 3. Albers and Claudio looked good out of the pen. Otherwise, pretty frustrating game.
  14. I have a soft spot for junk ballers. Ugh ... this team is forced to be pitching Alex Wilson in spots where he shouldn't be. He's a fine middle reliever, but they are using him as the top set-up guy, and it isn't going real well.
  15. You hated him like two days ago. He isn't a different pitcher than he was two days ago. I did? I do not recollect that. Are you sure it was me?
  16. Claudio is more impressive each time he pitches. Starting to really like him.
  17. A right-handed Hader ...
  18. You overlook two very important things. First, a pitcher has to stay down for at least 10 days once he is sent down. Second; San Antonio also needs pitching for their games. They can't use guys who have just thrown a number of innings in the big league for at least two days. They too have a limited number of pitchers. Plus some of those guys in San Antonio just are not ready for the big leagues. I could care less if San Antonio is periodically short on arms and has to leave a scrub out there to get shelled once in a while. The AAA team is simply a means to an end. That team's only objective is to get guys ready for major league action.
  19. Yet another non-efficient start. I really like Davies, but he gotta find a way to get those pitch counts per inning down.
  20. I think the facial hair would help him pass for a 16-year-old. He looks like he should be handing out shoes at a bowling alley.
  21. There is 137 games remaining in the season. It's impossible for the sky to fall this early. I said "kinda". Jeez! I kinda want our offense to start hitting better off these junk pitchers.
  22. There is 137 games remaining in the season. It's impossible for the sky to fall this early.
  23. I've seen both Williams and Taylor to the Packers at #12 in quite a few mocks. I personally would rather wait until #30 and grab Risner, but there's a chance he goes in the 20s. I agree, though, that OL depth is a huge need, even with the Turner signing. Risner is a guy I think can start immediately at G, and kick out to RT in 2020. Agree on Risner being a good option at 30, but I thought Billy Turner was signed to be the starting RG? Lane Taylor was horrible last year. I don't think he is having anything handed to him this year. Risner could very easily end up starting at LG
