  1. This was the final straw for you? I guess my earlier opinions didn’t litter the board with overreactions after all. As far as "i told you so" moments go, this one sucks.
  2. This was the final straw for you? LOL, touche. I suppose this is far from the first time they've pulled this sort of stunt.
  3. I can't help by feel a little duped here. It got out that Knebel hadn't pitched in awhile, but there was "no pain". That was obviously a lie. The fact that the lie may just have coincided with the time that they were in negotiations with Kimbrel kinda makes it worse in my opinion. I'm hoping it is much ado about nothing, but I'm certainly going to be much more cautious trusting what these guys say about player health. That's what I get for being optimistic I suppose.
  4. This is what I think is actually going to happen. They won't sign him but will acquire some kind of value fill-in guy and he'll end up contributing way more than people are anticipating. A Jesse Chavez type thing. It may have already happened. The Josh Fields signing was announced Tuesday. The more I look at the timeline of how this has all played out, the more it makes me kinda nauseous.
  5. Here I thought that the Brewers were being next-level proactive and value-driven, but apparently I was giving them too much credit. Signing Kimbrel now is the textbook definition of reactionary desperation.
  6. It certainly feels that way, and it sucks. Desperation moves hardly ever work. At least it seems that way.
  7. I think Hader will get closing opportunities, but I don't think he'll be the "closer". He just too valuable as a match-up and multi-inning guy to pigeonhole him into the 9th. I predict we'll see some sort of Guerra/Williams/Barnes combo in that role until Jeffress comes back healthy. Of course, if the Kimbrel thing happens, he'll eventually step into Knebel's role without missing much of a beat. Claudio and Petricka also have some past closer experience. None of this is ideal by any means, but I think it's important to note that there are still options out there.
  8. Time to jump on the Miguel Sanchez hype train!
  9. They literally said they were concerned about Knebel's elbow. I'm worried until each has put some innings under their belt. Yeah, I hadn't seen that news yet when I made the post. That isn't good.
  10. This rotation also tells me that they aren't worried about the status of Knebel and Jeffress, as I think they would have put one of the young studs in the pen to make up the difference.
  11. Chacin Woodruff Burnes Peralta Davies Chase to the pen. Brewers going all-in on the youngsters. I was hoping Chase would pitch better this spring, but now he'll have time to find things now that he's returned to his previous mechanics.
  12. The team's ace missed the whole season. Their #3 & #4 (Davies and Miley) missed huge chunks of the year. Tough injuries happen to every team, every year. Solidly built teams can overcome them, just as the Brewers did last year. Did they get lucky? Maybe. But I don't think luck is entirely random when it comes to baseball either.
  13. You pull those figures out of thin air? Seems random. Look 5 posts higher than Joseph's.
  14. I don't think that Stearns is immune to knee-jerk reactions (I mean, it can be argued that Schoop was a knee-jerk move), but I very much want to believe that he wouldn't think about having one a week before the opener. Right now at least, I think this is more a case of there being a guy who would provide extreme value who is still sitting on the open market, and adding him simply replaces the #8 reliever on the squad, kicking all the guys on the totem pole down a notch in the process. Perhaps that is a naive, overly-optimistic view, but until we get an indication that these guys are hurt worse than anyone it letting on, it's the one I'm going with.
  15. That's a good point. Bulaga and David Bakhtiari have basically the same measureables (6'4", 315 lbs), yet Bakhtiari looks like Adonis compared to Bulaga. Some guys just carry weight better than others. To me, Bulaga looks like a guy who, health-wise, should be carrying 240 lbs max. He just doesn't have the bone structure to handle the grind carrying an extra 75 lbs. Bakhtiari on the other hand has the body built to be a big, strong guy. Bulaga is one of those guys who to see retire, then 6 months later you see him at TE size. Bulaga has been a very good tackle in the NFL for a long time. I think it's in the team's best interest to try to squeeze one more year out of him, though, while enacting a back-up plan.
  16. He’s not signed yet. His agent has the same news about jeffress and Knebel we do if not more, how could this NOT affect stearns bargaining position. Here’s my new guess IF we sign him: 4 years 76 mil with mutual option at 20 mil with 4 mil buy-out. Shattering the Aav Record for a relief pitcher. hope I’m wrong I prefer 3 years. If David Stearns panics and goes way above his and the team's comfort level with Kimbrel because of a couple dead arms in his pen, he is not the GM we all think he is. I don't think he operates that way, though. If Kimbrel doesn't sign for the offer they are comfortable with, regardless of potential injury, you move on. The only, and I mean ONLY way that these injuries come into play is if they are potentially long-term, season-ending types, and there has been no indication that is the case.
  17. The earlier moves make a lot more sense now. Hope Tomlin catches on to another team and does well. I was rooting for him, but it was hard to see where he would fit in. He signed a minor league deal with the Braves last night.
  18. I'm not opposed to that idea either. I guess it comes down to health and expected effectiveness for the money. They'll decide whether, like Cobb, you're willing to carry relievable cap number for 7-10 games or so. Unfortunately, right now at least, the free agent market on offensive tackles is pretty slim. You're either looking at taking a flyer on a guy like George Fant, or a different formerly strong tackle who is now either old or an injury risk. Those guys include Jermey Parnell, Jared Veldheer, Matt Kalil or Chris Clark. If Kalil is finally healthy he would be a solid option, likely for roughly the same kind of money as Bulaga.
  19. Problem is, Bulaga has rarely stayed healthy throughout his career- he's only played in more than 75% of the games 3 times in his career thus far. Obviously, the Packers will be better able to make a decision on his health and effectiveness better than we will, but I think there's a strong chance that if they're presented with a better option, they'll cut him if they feel that he either isn't a good bet to stay healthy or ineffective if he does. Also, not sure where you're seeing the $23million and change for the cap- they're closer to $14 at this point, and $7-8 million when factoring in the draft class. If I'm the Packers, I hang onto Bulaga this year, but also draft a tackle in the 2nd-3rd round area who can be elevated to the starting RT spot in 2020, and provide insurance coverage for Bulaga this year. Basically what Spriggs was supposed to be.
  20. Knebel has some dead arm. It happens to pretty all pitchers at some point. Disagree, doesn’t happen to all pitchers at some point. It’s in the Brewers best interest to downplay the possible injuries to jeffress AND Knebel. The Brewers NEED Kimbrel and his agent not stupid. Brewers in trouble here, even if they get Kimbrel. He won’t make up for not having TWO of our best high leverage pen arms. I’m more than concerned, I’m scared. Sign Kimbrel and I’ll just be concerned. I would stress calm. This is nothing to get worked up over ... yet anyway. Lets wait to hear how Jeffress's pen session goes today. If Knebel is back throwing by the weekend, I think they'll probably be OK. I agree that it certainly isn't ideal, but the sky isn't falling either.
  21. Knebel has some dead arm. It happens to pretty all pitchers at some point. According to Robert Murray a team source termed the Knebel issue as a “tired arm”. Knebel downplayed it and Counsell refused to say anything about it. So at this point which of these relief pitchers will first throw a regular season pitch for the Brewers in 2019, Jeffress, Knebel, or Kimbrel? If Kimbrel is signed, I don't see any way he doesn't stay behind for at least a couple weeks in extended spring training. Do they have enough good pen arms to weather the storm not having all three available for the first couple weeks of the season? We may very well find out. All I can say is Good Albers better show up in Milwaukee next week.
  22. If we get something done with him I would have to guess it would be somewhere in the 2/$30mil range. For us to be in on him his market had to of just fell through the floor. I don't see us spending $20mil a year or giving a deal 3+ years to improve something that is probably already the strength of the team. Maybe 3/$45mil, but jeez...I just don't us spending that kind of money on a bullpen arm. Some people dont think our pen is a strength at least compared to last year. And it’s becoming apparent stearn’s might think so too. We’re not the small market team of the past. We can support a 150 mil payroll for a few years while contending for title IF Mark forgo’s A certain profit. We’ll see what happens I have no doubt that the Brewers brass sees the pen as a strength of this team. But just because something can be perceived as a strength doesn't mean it can't be strengthened more. Especially if there is value in that added strength.
  23. My thoughts exactly. I mean, when was the last time any sort of legit Brewer free agent or trade news leaked before it actually happened. I mean there's been speculation on players that they eventually acquired, but nothing real concrete even down to zero hour. I still have the sneaking suspicion that this is an attempt by Kimbrel's agent to get the Cubs ownership to put down the PBR and unzip that fanny pack. Quit hedging, live a little. If I've learned anything from the roughly 45 times we've "been on the verge" of acquiring Chris Archer over the last 4 seasons ... it's tread cautiously.

  25. Well, both arguably need someone like Kimbrel in their pens much, much more than the Brewers do, so I understand. The Cubs especially appear to have a major weakness there.
