  1. Plus, all GMs have egos. Even Stearns, even though he's been better than most when it comes to admitting his mistakes. Going out and trading something of value to get Gennett back would be some pretty big egg on the face for a guy who gave him away for nothing 1 1/2 years ago. I understood the move to get rid of Gennett at the time, but it has turned into some pretty crap irony that his bat since then is exactly the type of bat that may have put them over the top. Completely disagree. I don't believe for a second Stearns would let that sway him at all- period. He is a very logical guy, and understands you can't make decisions based on what you did yesterday. That said, I agree with all the other reasons mentioned by everybody why this move is extremely unlikely. I don't disagree with you, and it would be awesome to see Stearns admit he made a mistake by letting Gennett go while reacquiring him. All I'm saying is that it would be very rare for a GM to admit his mistake to that degree. It would make Stearns look awesome in my eyes, though.

  3. No, it wouldn't. Castro is a decent player, and his contract isn't cost prohibitive at all with $11M committed for 2019 and then a club option of $16M or $1M buyout for 2020. Proposed deal isn't nearly enough. By all indications the Mets and their new green GM seem to be in "Go For It" mode, so I think they are the team to beat for Realmuto right now. Hopefully the Marlins are still serious about not wanting to trade him within the division. Otherwise the Dodgers match up well. Personally, if he doesn't go to the Brewers, I at least want to see him go for a big package, and not the underwhelming one the Cardinals got Goldschmidt for. If the Dodgers can get him for someone like Joc Pederson and change, or the Mets can get him for Nimmo and change, I'll be disappointed.
  4. Care to elaborate? His bat is seemingly what this lineup is currently missing. Defense may be an issue, but I'll chalk up his bad defense last year to coming off an injury. He showed last year that while his bat may not be what it was during his prime run with the Nationals, he's still very dangerous. He also hasn't had drastic splits vs RHP and LHP up until last year, so hopefully last year was an an outlier. Personally I'd prefer LeMahieu or Marwin Gonzalez, but it is quite possible that those two are either too expensive or are seeking too long of a contract. That leaves the Brewers choosing from guys like Murphy and Dozier.
  5. Yep ... that Vikings offense, other than Cook missing a few games because of hamstring issues, has been intact injury-wise as well. Just goes to show how the flavor of the month in coaching can change quickly. The Vikings have been nearly as disappointing as the Packers, if not more so.
  6. Murphy would be a solid option in the #2 hole offensively. He wasn't great against lefties last year, but overall in his career he's hit them well. If he is fully back from injury, can play 2B at a passable level, and is willing to sign a short, affordable deal, he'd be a nice fit.
  7. I like when he gets salty with those idiots. Quality reading. Brewers Twitter is a goofy bunch of squirrels.
  8. I'd love to bring in Kluber but giving up Burnes and Peralta, let alone also adding Ray is just a significant overpay for me. Though I think this offer is a lot closer to reality than what some other posters have suggested (like Ray + Santana). My suggestion was Ray, Santana, Knebel and Thames for Kluber and Kipnis. I don't think anyone suggested Ray and Santana alone for Kluber.
  9. For who? Just the Brewers? They would have to be mighty high on Ray and mighty high on Santana. The former no one was high on last offseason before he stunk up the joint. Got a source on that? Because it would see to me that no one has any idea what type of value Stearns put on Santana in a trade. Just because no one met that price doesn't mean there's no value there. I don't understand that narrative. Also taking on Kipnis' deal lessens the value going back to the Indians.
  10. Indians needs this offseason are OF, OF, RP, OF, C, 1B and more OF. A package of Ray, Santana, Thames and Knebel for Kluber and Kipnis makes some sense.
  11. Florial has struck out anywhere from 29 to 35 percent of the time in the last 3 seasons, a very similar K rate to Ray, while Ray has shown quite a bit more power. Verdugo has shown high contact but little power. Nearly every prospect has warts. Kluber would be fun, but trading two MLB-ready starting pitchers for him I just think is cutting off their head despite their face.
  12. Top prospect lists are for fans. GMs could care less. Ray is a young (24) 5-tool OF who was a very high pick and is finally living up to that potential. Value is high.
  13. Would you do Ray, Santana and Knebel for Kluber? I think that makes sense for both teams. Indians need relief help, and Knebel would slot in well there. Would suck to lose him as a Brewer fan, but I think I'd rather trade an ML reliever than one of the young starters.
  14. The value on young starters is just too high to give up two in one deal. I think Ray, Burnes and Peralta for Kluber is a massive overpay. Plus, the Indians have Kluber and Bauer on the market because not only are they trying to save money they have too many starting pitching options. I could totally see a package headlined by Ray and Santana or even one of the Brewers' relievers (Knebel?).
  15. Makes a lot of sense for the Indians to be interested in Ray. I have a feeling they would have to give up a couple other big pieces besides Ray, though. Package would be big.
  16. I wonder if this committee is going to open things up to the steroid guys - i.e. Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa?
  17. LOL at Yankee fans expecting a Gray for Scooter Gennett straight-up deal. Interesting to see Gennett on the block, though. Not that I think the Brewers would ever go there, but that would be one heck of a bridge 2B.
  18. I would too. Albers was a bad signing and they'll have to eat his remaining contract unless they can get some other team to take a flier, but they'd still have to eat most of it. Albers is slated to make $2.5 million, which is pretty minor all things considered. I think at that price point, you at least bring him to Spring Training and see how he is. He looked like a bargain early in the year before the wheels came off.
  19. His bat makes him an elite catching prospect. But his lack of power very much diminishes his value as a 3B or corner OF. I always thought that, judging by scouting reports, he was solid at catcher defensively. It appears that the Indians sold him at the right time.
  20. They did. Murphy said he was an honest candidate for the job. He would not go that far with Pettine would asked. Blowing smoke possibly, but he did say it. He had no other choice. There's no way he can tell the media that Philbin is going to serve as interim HC, but is not a candidate for the long-term role. I think if they manage to win out, Philbin would be a strong candidate to get the job. I don't know if that would be a good thing.
  21. The Padres' interest in Realmuto tells me everything I need to know about Francisco Mejia - that he is quite possibly one of the most overhyped prospects in recent memory. If you have arguably the #1 catching prospect in the majors, who is supposedly ML ready, in my mind you don't trade for another front-line catcher. I imagine that if the Padres traded for Realmuto, Mejia would be one of the pieces going back.
  22. I think people are reading way too much into that connection. I think if the Brewers can pick him up for a bad contract (Thames?) or a low-level prospect, they'd be happy to take a chance on him.
  23. Guerra was the team's best starter for a big chunk of the season last year, and was nails when moved to the pen. I think he wins a pen job pretty easily this year. I like Houser as well, and hope he makes it. Can't have enough hard throwers capable of going multiple innings.
  24. That's right, but doesn't play into the narrative trying to be created that anything Brewer property is worthless. Same guy wanted to blow up the team and do a complete rebuild last offseason.
  25. Santana was junk for the majority of last year. Are we just going to ignore that? Certainly not. He had a down year, but that certainly doesn't make his value worthless. The Brewers would certainly have to add substantial value to Santana to get Bauer. But Santana has more upside than anything the Indians have in their outfield.
