  1. It is possible that not everyone shares your opinion.
  2. I don't know. They are cheap I guess. Otherwise I don't see how they are so valuable. Nimmo is a ok defense high strikeout bat, while Conforto had a poor year. They are young, but I don't see how either would be off the table for a guy who is arguably the best catcher in the game. Both seem pretty average to me.
  3. Some of the "insider" tweets are making it sound like Conforto, Nimmo and Rosario are coveted by the Marlins and the Mets aren't inclined to give them up. Really? Two extremely average outfielders and a good defense no stick (albeit young) middle infielder? Does that mean all we need to do to get Realmuto is offer up Arcia? Makes me wish we would have hung onto Brett Phillips.
  4. http://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-watch-packers-associate-coach-winston-moss-stares-down-reporters-video/i7o20p9vzqa51fekwc2ubbk4r Sorry, it was June during organized team activities, not during training camp.
  5. I don't doubt that he's taking some factual leaps, but I wouldn't say they aren't at least educated leaps. The Brewers are a team that was one poorly pitched game from a World Series appearance, with a starting rotation basically held together by duct tape, binder twine and dreams. While I believe the Brewers are in a much better situation with their prospective rotation this year than they were at this time last year, they are still lacking a sure-fire ace, and the team will continue to be brought up as a candidate whenever the availability of one of those types of guys is discussed. Could Nelson come back and be that guy? Could Burnes, Woodruff or Peralta develop into that guy? Could Davies or Anderson rebound into that guy? Could Chacin build off his great 2018 and be that guy? Could they find a reclamation like Sonny Gray that could turn into that guy? All those are varying degrees of "maybe".
  6. I know this is likely in jest, but I have to admit that it is a little disconcerting watching a bunch of NL teams get better. Still very early, though.
  7. The bizarre exchange with Moss last summer was the first sign of something awry IMO. LOL the guy was obviously off his nut. Glad he's gone.
  8. I would be shocked if he isn't on the Astros by spring training. They have a strong system and an obvious need. Looks like the Astros are signing Robinson Chirinos Chirinos is actually a solid backstop, and should be an upgrade to McCann. I imagine they still have interest in Realmuto, though.
  9. Previously underachieving pitcher has a career year that coincides with a contract year? Well, knock me over with a feather! Remember last year when there were rumors that Corbin was on the block, and that they had interest in Broxton or Santana? Part of my wonders if Corbin would have been dealt to the Brewers if Milwaukee might have a World Series trophy.
  10. Well they signed Arrieta and Santana last year, so I wouldn't say they've been pinching pennies. You're right, though. MLB continues to be a league of haves and have nots, with an occasional have not making a run into contention. Typically those have nots are eventually raided by the haves, too, in both their rosters and front offices. It'll eventually happen to the Brewers too, unfortunately. Well, he's going to the Nationals. Another "have".
  11. I don't know about you guys, but Goldschmidt going to the Cardinals would bother the crap out of me. Because he's good.
  12. I keep pouring over that Seattle roster to see if there's anything of value left to pillage, and unfortunately there isn't much. Dee Gordon might be useful as a 2B I suppose. Haniger is a nice player, but they would have no reason to deal him other than stupidity. Swarzak was solid in his short time here, and would add another good arm to the pen. Part of me wonders what kind of assets they would be willing to give up to a team to take King Felix's contract off their hands. There's only one year left on it, though, so it isn't a huge commitment. I wonder if there is any metric out there that points to any sort of career resurgence from him?
  13. I think Gray would be a solid reclamation project, provided the Brewers don't give up a lot of value to acquire him.
  14. The bizarre exchange with Moss last summer was the first sign of something awry IMO. Exactly. The fact that the team allowed that to happen without any repercussions (at least publicly) was a black eye in my mind. The media wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary to deserve that kind of weird treatment. I'm sure that, regardless of who is eventually brought in as coach, many of McCarthy's pet guys like Moss, Whitt, Campen and Zook will likely be out.
  15. I heard a snippet on the local sports talk radio station this morning that said Lincoln Riley has already reached out to the Packers to express interest in the job. Obviously all rumors right now, but he's sure to be a hot name after Black Monday. He's known as an offensive coach and dynamic playcaller who would bring youth and enthusiasm to the coaching staff. I would hope that if he's the choice, he'd keep Pettine on as the DC, but change over some of the positional coaches. Winston Moss needs to go away.
  16. I think ownership and the front office knows this team has a window of opportunity that is probably 3 years, and they also realize this team is a legit World Series contender right now, and that a big piece or two may very well push them over the top. They obviously aren't going to throw caution to the wind and sign guys like Harper or Machado, but I really believe that we are going to see a couple of acquisitions that can be qualified as "big" names, which means that the payroll and any perceived cap likely isn't the concern it's being made out as by a few posters here. They aren't going to sign anyone to a $30 million/year deal, but the money isn't a problem if they feel the upgrade is worth it. I think the opportunity is there for a big upgrade at catcher, 2B (or 3B if the plan is to play Shaw at 2B), perhaps RF, and undoubtedly at the top of the rotation. A high-end reliever isn't out of the realm of possibility either. Now they likely aren't going address all these areas this offseason, but I have a strong feeling that 2-3 of them will be addressed in a significant way.
  17. Clancy isn’t going to be happy. He’s long wanted the Brewers to get Pazos.
  18. Who would have thought that the Brewers would prove to not only be the best squad this year, but also a model of consistency compared to the other teams in the state?
  19. Rex actually suggested on one of the morning shows this morning that Murphy should give him a call. That he'd love to see how many wins he could get with Rodgers as his QB. Talk about infinity steps backward
  20. Just posted this in the Packers thread, but probably a better fit here. While its obviously still very early in the process, here are some names I'm hearing through the limited contacts I have: 1. Pete Charmichael Jr. - OC - Saints 2. Joe Lombardi - QB Coach - Saints 3. Mike Kafka - QB Coach - Chiefs 4. Josh McDaniels - OC - Patriots 5. Pat Fitzgerald - Head Coach - Northwestern University 6. Zac Taylor - QB Coach - Rams 7. Lincoln Riley - Head Coach - Oklahoma 8. Mike Groh - OC - Eagles My main contact is very high on Mike Kafka, and considers him the early leader, if not a major darkhorse, for the job. Kafka is a former Northwestern QB, is extremely intelligent, and has gotten major accolades for his work with Patrick Mahomes. He is 31 years old, four years younger than his QB would be.
  21. Totally agree. McCarthy has been a good coach, and better yet, a good man to represent the team for 12 years. While I agree that letting him go was the right move, I am in no way taking any joy in it. Sometimes change just needs to happen. 22. Wheels are already turning on the McCarthy to Cleveland bus. https://www.12up.com/posts/6237543-report-browns-exploring-process-of-hiring-mike-mccarthy-as-next-head-coach/partners/44511?fbclid=IwAR0at3vOr2Jck2I9-5pqRXTWhvKmTJ_HEIALPTA6MJfYeGTXoZK98msb9HU
  23. Regardless of the name, he has legit chops and credentials to be mentioned as a HC candidate. But yeah, holy pressure trying to win the trophy named after his gramps while working on the street named after him. Would be one heck of a cool story, though.
  24. I did not expect it to happen mid-season, but it was going to happen regardless. Not they can use these remaining four games to gauge what level of teardown they need to go through, and if a retool through the draft and free agency can make this team competitive again. I don't think Philbin or Pettine is a legit candidate for the job in 2019. I think you'll see a level of player movement this offseason that is pretty unprecedented in Packers history. Gute is going to want to truly put his stamp on this team now. Still, it is a sad day. McCarthy is a good coach, and didn't deserve to go out like this. They need to clean house of some of these players that gave up on him, and do something to get their superstar QB's attitude right.
  25. This offensive gameplan is atrocious. No imagination whatsoever. Bad blocking, inaccuracy from Rodgers. What a bad, boring game.
