  1. It makes perfect sense that other teams are going to start poaching Brewers' front office personnel for their GM vacancies. This team has perfected the idea of the "rebuild".
  2. If Chacin is going today, I would guess we'll see a bullpen game tomorrow if they lose. The pen arms that go today would be left off tomorrow's roster
  3. Brewers game notes say Chacin is getting the ball today. Makes me wonder what all the secrecy was about. They must have been weighing what they would do tomorrow if they have to play.
  4. I know what you mean ... I'm devouring any sort of Brewers-related news or nugget I can find, waiting for today's lineup and starter to come out. Productivity is useless.
  5. It is never that simple, not for us anyway. I expect it to come down to the 9th inning, it can be no other way... I kind of expect the Brewers to score 2-3 runs early, then the offense to go into hibernation while the Cubs try to claw their way back. They need to get over the mental block they've had against Quintana this year, and hang a crooked number on him. He's been a below-average pitcher against everyone but the Brewers this year. Of course, he wasn't facing a hot-hitting Ryan Braun or the current "Tecmo Bo" version of Christian Yelich, though, either. Brauny did tag him for two dingers the one game they got to him this year.
  6. You are right. Even if the chosen starter pitches great, they'll be lucky to get 5 innings out of him. That's just the way the rotation has been handled lately. And I get it ... the pen has been superb. It likely won't matter if they can't solve Quintana. I don't know how a guy can look so mediocre against every other team, but turn into Randy Johnson against the Brewers. They've slapped some other lefties around the last couple weeks, though, so hopefully that continues against Quintana. If would be great to see Yelich continue his tear tomorrow.
  7. The delay in naming the starter makes me think they are going to ride or die with Peralta. That would be pretty risky ... but if good Freddy shows up, it could be one heck of a game. Counsell is a very calculated guy. They've known for at least the last week that this scenario was a possibility. They know exactly what they're doing, and think they are gaining some sort of strategic advantage by not naming anyone. I doubt they go straight bullpen game, as if they did that, they'd be forced to use most of their top relievers. Which would leave them shorted handed on Tuesday more than likely.
  8. A little worried today about the offense. Turnbull is basically a complete unknown, but is coming off a really nice start against the Twins. The Brewers have struggled at times against guys with similar profiles.
  9. Still trying to find out what part of this sucks. Me too. I mean, a triple crown would be kinda cool, but not division championship and MVP cool.
  10. A little surprised Granderson isn't getting a start today, but despite Braun's rough day yesterday, I'm sure he wants to be in the lineup, and he should be there. Arcia has been hitting better, so I don't see any holes in that lineup.
  11. It is September 30, and the Milwaukee Brewers are in 1st Place! Win today, and that's a 95-win season! Even the most optimistic of us didn't see this coming. This team is a legit World Series contender this year, and looks to be for several years to come.
  12. Someone earlier in the game thread asked why Adrian Houser wasn't up. I wonder the same thing. In fact, part of me wonders in he and Wilkerson (the only two guys with MLB experience who are on the 40-man but aren't up) have been doing anything to stay in shape. There's a good change we'll have to go to the pen early tomorrow, and likely Monday if there is an extra game to decide the division. If the Brewers have to play the Wild Card game on Tuesday, that pen could be pretty depleted.
  13. Counsell announced that Gio is throwing for the Brewers tomorrow. Hopefully he can stymie those ultra-aggressive hitters the Tigers are sending up there.
  14. We are through game 161, and the Milwaukee Brewers are in 1st place! After all the times that they were "done" this season, or the Cubs had the division "sewn up", this is pretty dang cool! Is Jack Flaherty still throwing for the Cardinals tomorrow? I sure hope so. That guy is a stud. If the Cards can scratch out 2-3 runs, they'll stand a good chance. I would think they should be able to do that against Montgomery if they haven't already decided to quit for the year.
  15. Just no plate discipline. His at-bats are painful to watch. He's got great power, but looking at his at-bats, I don't see how he ever got hot enough to be a Player of the Week, let alone put up the numbers he did last season.
  16. Jennings, Peralta, Guerra, and Lyles (and Albers, I guess) are all guys that could go. I'd guess Knebel gets the 8th if Soria makes it through the 7th.
  17. Me too. I think they go Granderson as the 4th OF and Broxton as the 5th OF/pinch runner. Thames has been so bad, and while Domingo has done well as a pinch hitter, but then puts together ABs like that.
  18. I don't think he is going to play enough to get on a hot streak. Maybe he'll get some time against a lefty-heavy rotation like the Cubs, but who knows?
