  1. Great start from Chacin tonight. I'm not sure I let him go much further. I would think they pinch hit for him, as he's due up 3rd
  2. When I picture Coach Cooper, I see Morris Buttermaker. Not the kindly Matthau version, though. The prickly Billy Bob Thornton version.
  3. Does that mean that the Cubs also get to celebrate tonight, after getting shut out by Nova? If the Cardinals lose, the Cubs clinch a spot.
  4. Which is crazy to think about because it was going to be off the charts anyway coming home after the road trip he has had. Just a fantastic article. Loved the part about being on the plane with Mark and Braun and stopping to pick up Robin and Ueck. Like being a kid in a candy store times a million. I think we forget sometimes that not only are these guys professional athletes, they're fans too. That had to be a pretty awesome experience for a guy who obviously had become pretty jaded by the business side of baseball in his last few months as a Marlin. Things like this play very well nationally, too. A lot of major league players are going to read this article, and it's going to change some opinions of Milwaukee and playing for the Brewers. It makes me think back to last winter, which the Brewers were flirting with signing Yu Darvish. I think many here came to the conclusion that Darvish was simply using the Brewers as a pawn, and never wanted to come to Milwaukee. This type of story directly combats the stereotype that players don't want to come play here. Now, signing Darvish would likely have been a disaster, so that ended up working out. But you know what I mean ...
  5. That was terrific! Yelich doesn't show a ton of emotion in interviews, so it was really cool that he got this sort of outlet to express himself. The guy seems to be having the time of his life right now, and every fan is benefitting because of that. I started watching the Brewers pretty religiously around 1989. I idolized Yount, and thought Greg Vaughn and Gary Sheffield were going to lead this team to the promised land. I have a lot of great memories of cheering for this team, and a few not so great ones. But I can say, without a doubt, following this team, this year, has been my favorite time as a baseball fan. This season has been awesome. Whatever happens from here on out is just gravy.
  6. Would it be possible for one of the mods to create another "Other MLB Games" thread for today's action? Cubs/Pirates, Dodgers/DBacks, Rockies/Phillies and Braves/Mets all have a bearing on the final standings. Boy this week sure has been fun as a baseball fan!
  7. Although X-Rays were negative, Kris Bryant isn't expected to play today after taking a Chris Archer fastball off his wrist yesterday.
  8. Here are the guys I'd like to see back: RHP Alec Asher - He was solid as a swing guy, and provides decent depth C Christian Bethancourt - Broke out at the plate this year, and is a good defender UT Emilio Bonifacio - This guy was once a very useful MLB utility guy. Can't hurt to take a deeper look next year. OF Clint Coulter - Hit pretty well in his AAA cup 'o coffee. Plus as a former 1st rounder, I want to see him succeed. RHP Tim Dillard - At least keep him in the organization somehow. If he wants to pitch, let him pitch. IF Jake Hager - Showed potential as a future MLB utility infielder RHP Ariel Hernandez - Don't want to give up on that arm C Dustin Houle - Can never have enough catching depth OF Rymer Liriano - Talent is there, and surprisingly still young-ish IF Dylan Moore - Another potential MLB utility infielder LHP Nick Ramirez - Maybe this is the year Brooks Kieschnick, Ver. II gets a shot? OF Tyrone Taylor - I would bet he gets added to the 40 man following the season RHP Jake Thompson - Another power arm with a high round pedigree. If they can teach him control, he could be a solid pen addition. RHP Jeff Ames - Ditto to the Thompson write-up
  9. At some point here they are going to need some length out of their starters. It would be bad to go into next week with a gassed pen. Hopefully Chacin can go six strong tonight.
  10. In theory, the Cardinals winning tonight gives them move skin in the game this weekend against the Cubs. I think they will play the Cubs tough regardless, though. With that in mind, stomp those birds! I'm sick of the Cardinals, and just want to see them gone. Also, the Cubs are playing like crap, and if they don't clean it up, they won't make it past the Wild Card round. If they do, matching up with them doesn't scare me.
  11. I just don't know where Peralta would fit on the playoff roster. You likely aren't going to start him. He hasn't really pitched much out of the pen. They do seems to really like him though.
  12. Oooh, I want some friendly action on that one! Which means that we'll both be wrong and Jordan Lyles will grab that final pen spot.
  13. Helps the Brewers in the race for the best overall record, too. The Rockies are on fire right now. There is a very real chance that the Dodgers miss the playoffs.
  14. Of course they are. Right now, though, the Brewers are better team than the Cubs. I think the Cardinals take at least one, if not two this weekend. My point being, whether they are playing their hearts out or playing for win #60, it's the same team in a huge rivalry. Them needing to win isn't going to change the way they play. I agree that STL can win 2 and think they will win 2, but not because they are "playing their hearts out". Theoretically had they sewn up a Wild Card spot this week, they wouldn't have to. It is a huge rivalry, so maybe they would have. But their backs will be against the wall. They will be facing true "must win" games this weekend. That's what I meant.
  15. I think Woodruff grabs a relief spot over Peralta.
  16. Of course they are. Right now, though, the Brewers are better team than the Cubs. I think the Cardinals take at least one, if not two this weekend.
  17. From about a dice roll to almost a coin flip. And when you look at the remaining schedule, the Brewers have a much easier road on paper. Nova and Williams are really rough matchups for them the next two days, and you know the Cardinals are going to be playing their hearts out this week just to stay alive.
  18. "I'm still going with Baez, 'cause he's been doing it all year." - Harold Reynolds Um, excuse me Harold? I know Yelich's second half has been better than his first half, but the guy was still an All Star. It just looks bad in comparison to his otherworldly 2nd half numbers. Harold Reynolds is an idiot.
  19. Same with Villar My comment was sarcasm given the people who dismiss Villar for that reason. Unless Schoop turns into the second coming of Ryne Sanberg next year this trade sucked balls. I'm kinda enjoying the win tonight ... but you do you
  20. I'm pretty sure that the Cardinal loss this evening clinched a playoff spot for the Cubs. As funny as that sounds.
