  1. It is still Soria's job to get outs. Instead, he gave up a two-run triple to Gennett. Granted Albers put runners on, but it is Soria's job to get out of that. That's why he makes big money.
  2. I hate to say it, but as of now the deadline was completely botched. The offensive product from the 2nd base position has actually gotten WORSE since the deadline. Shaw has a .648 OPS while play 2nd base and Schoop .542. Obviously the defense has been much worse as well. Add in the fact all the talent we gave up for those trades and ignoring the rotation questions (ERA over 5.00 since the deadline BTW).... Puke. Yes. Strearns has done a good job overall but is completely overrated by most Brewer fans. Khris Davis for nothing, Will Smith for nothing, Villar over Gennett, the fail of a trade deadline this season. If Isan Diaz is a bust he lost the Segura trade too. LOL, Diaz was part of the Yelich trade. He served his purpose.
  3. For some reason, Stearns seems to be more comfortable with this team's starting rotation than, well, everyone. Been that way since winter. Nearly every fan, every baseball writer and "expert" said they needed more pitching. He didn't get it. I fear that's going to be this team's downfall.
  4. Now that is irony. Saying we need a 2B when we, we’ll you know. Yep ... I'm not defending that move anymore. That's a big black eye for Stearns. Hate to say it, but Briggs is right.
  5. He didn't give up the two-run triple. It is Soria's job to limit the damage.
  6. I hate Scooter Gennett. Why do I have the feeling he's going to destroy Brewer pitching for the next decade?
  7. I think he was joking, but you cannot deny the irony. Not irony Talking about how great Hughes is at the exact same time as he's getting shelled by our inconsistent offense. Yes, that can be seen as ironic. Yes it is one outing, and Hughes has been great all year. But at this exact instance, it is ironic. And funny.
  8. Hughes was the very definition of average/replaceable last year. No one could have seen his dominance coming. No one could have seen this season coming, but plenty of people wanted him back, and with good reaaon, he was solid for us last year. I was surprised they didn't try to keep him, but it isn't like I was real broken up by the decision. He had quite a few outings last year that looked like that last inning for the Reds.
  9. Such a good trade. That's why you can't be afraid to give up top prospects in the right deal.
  10. Not so fast ... Brew4U, thank you for maintaining your optimism. I know it can be rough with this team.

  12. Starting pitching was a need going into the season, and while they have had stretches of decent pitching, starting pitching is still this team's biggest need. They failed in the offseason and at the trade deadline to shore up that portion of the roster, besides the astute signing of Chacin. The inability for the majority of the team's starters to go more than 5-6 innings has put extra pressure on the relief staff, and if they don't make the playoffs, that will be the main culprit. Of course, it doesn't help that the team has a wildly inconsistent offense.
  13. Official Lineup: 1. Cain - CF 2. Yelich - RF 3. Aguilar - 1B 4. Shaw - 2B 5. Braun - LF 6. Moustakas - 3B 7. Kratz - C 8. Arcia - SS 9. Guerra - P Kinda wish that Thames was in the lineup, considering it's the Reds. Also kind of a bummer that Pina isn't playing, considering his hot bat. Also think Braun and Aguilar should be flip-flopped if both are in the lineup.
  14. I'd go Jeffress, Hader, Soria, Burnes, Albers, Jennings, Williams and Lyles. Jennings, Williams and Lyles are very replaceable with the way they are pitching, and Albers too if he hasn't righted the ship.
  15. Unless they manage to pull a rabbit out of a hat that acquire someone nobody is talking about, I think Chacin likely takes the ball. Jordan Zimmermann is intriguing as a "bounce back" guy, but he's about the only potential August trade candidate that doesn't make me say "YUCK!" And that's only if the Tigers agree to pay a bunch of that salary. Derek Holland has put up some nice numbers as well, and I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him. We could see someone out of left field, too, like Sonny Gray or Zach Wheeler. I highly doubt these guys made it to the Brewers on waivers. Most teams in the league would put a claim on these guys. You are probably right ... but I would have thought that someone would put in a claim on Daniel Murphy, too, before he got to the Cubs. I know Wheeler and Gray are controlled beyond this year, but weird things do happen at the waiver trade deadline.
  16. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/08/nationals-place-ryan-madson-on-revocable-trade-waivers.html I can't imagine Madson would cost anything more than salary relief of perhaps a low-level prospect or organizational soldier. Numbers aren't great at all this year, but the velocity is still there.
  17. I agree that its a load of poppycock. Only the dang Cubs, with their horrible rotation and farm system, would luck themselves into a TOR starter for basically free.

  19. Nice to see Houser stretched out for an extended outing. I wonder if the team views him as a starting candidate moving forward. Could be be a darkhorse for the 2019 MLB rotation?
  20. And I don't think Morrison's acquisition in any way curtails a potential Mack trade. Different positions. The only way it may play a role is if Morrison keeps Matthews from moving to ILB. I agree, though, that it appears that Morrison is simply a replacement for Ryan as a two-down thumper. Hopefully Burks is back soon, as his athleticism will be needed.
  21. They would want Jones and at least one 1st.
  22. Logic dictates that the Cubs cannot continue to play the other-worldly baseball they have the past couple weeks. As long as the Brewers continue to play well and put pressure on them, I suspect they will remain within striking distance. It sure would be nice to see the Cubs crappy rotation hit another cold spell, though.
