  1. Not really. Stearns and the Brewers brass keep things incredibly tight. I have no doubt that the tidbits we kept hearing of the Brewers interest/involvement/trade package for Machado was getting leaked on the Orioles end. It wouldn't surprise me to see some info come out today on who the Brewers are looking at.
  2. Well, at least we won't have to worry about Hader being involved in any trade talks anytime soon. #silverlinings
  3. That's the jig of this whole thing, though. Yes, I agree that right now, top to bottom, the Cubs are a better team. But it isn't like the Cubs are going anywhere anytime soon. If the Brewers have a 4-5 year window of being a contender, the Cubs are set up at least that long with their core as currently constructed. That's why I think these teams are probably going to be neck-and-neck for the next 4-5 years. And if the Brewers want to get over the hump, they are going to have to pick a season to do it, or have nothing to show for it in the end. Perhaps this isn't the year to do it ... but having a team that is 18 games over .500 pre-All Star break tells me that perhaps this could be a year you want to strike. The issue is there is no 100% right answer here, and that's frustrating.
  4. If they were, and no one advised/respectfully requested/demanded that Hader cleanse them from his Twitter page, their heads should roll. I know that may be technically breaking the law to do that, but come on! If I filled my Facebook page up with hateful stuff, you can bet I'd be in the company owner's office the next day.
  5. Assigning an intern to review history of all players in the organization and prospective trade targets wouldn't be the worst of ideas. Hindsight is 20/20, but they have a team of social media people who post pictures of dogs and players dancing. I personally think that stuff is idiotic, but if you are going to have these people on your payroll, this type of thing should be a priority over reenacting Dumb and Dumber scenes.
  6. 1. Those are very, very different situations. Astros and Cubs were clearly the best teams in their division, already clear playoff teams and WS contenders. That's when you sell out to win. When an extra win or two over the rest of the season (including playoffs) can get you a WS title. You don't sell out when you're the second best team in your division and likely fighting for a WC slot. I disagree on your first point. This team was 18 games over .500 a week ago. 18 GAMES! They had a lead on the Cubs. One crappy week of baseball doesn't mean that this team suddenly isn't a contender anymore. I agree on your 2nd point though. Steans has made some huge moves. I think he's spoiled a lot of us into thinking whenever a big name becomes available, the Brewers will be a player.
  7. I was just gonna say. Just because we trade a few prospects doesn’t mean we are “emptying the farm”. I can’t wven tell you how many times I heard that last year when I advocated for Sonny Gray. The vast majority of prospects fail. A few years ago prospect lovers would have had a heart attack over the thought of trading Jorge Lopez. Now the guy is a throw in....the fourth piece of a trade. I completely understand the need to build from within and not make foolish trades. But not all prospects succeed. And not all prospects have a place on the roster. We can’t just hang on to every single prospect who has had a modicum of success or has an above average tool or two. Building from within is certainly a strategy we need to employ. But so too is cashing in your assets before their value tanks. Not to mention the roster crunch that the team is currently facing going into next winter and the Rule 5 Draft. I would hate to lose future potential big league contributors like Gatewood, Kirby and Quentin Torres-Costa for absolutely nothing because there was just too many guys that needed protecting. Stearns needs to clean that up, and I predict it's going to start within the next week.
  8. Above all else? Good to know that you value baseball games more than human decency. And of course his teammates will defend him and say that's not who he is, that's how it always works. Because you know better? I know I did some things in my teenage years that I have a great amount of regret for today (and I ain't no spring chicken). Looking back, I was probably pretty racially ignorant because that's what I knew (or didn't know). Today, that isn't who I am because I've grown and become my own person. If the people that live and work with him every day vouch for him, who am I to say it isn't true. I know for darn sure it isn't for me to get on my pulpit and judge what a young man did at 17. Stones and glass houses. I consider myself to be pretty responsible when I was a teenager. Still, I sure as heck am glad today that Twitter wasn't a thing when I was 17. Every teenager does and says stupid things. If you didn't, you are misremembering.
  9. I get what you are saying, and I'm glad they did not trade for Quintana. But can we stop with the "emptying the farm" and "gutting the farm" talk? This system is very talented and very deep. A couple big trades, while perhaps depleting some top prospects, isn't going to change that. And that's a credit to the team's scouting and minor league coaching staffs. This system has as much talent in it now as during the Fielder/Weeks/Hardy minor league years, and is likely better, as it has more top level pitching and isn't nearly as top heavy. This system is built to weather making several big trades to improve the big club.
  10. LOL, do you realize how hard it is to walk four and not give up a run in one inning of work? He should get an award for that. Well, I guess he did get credit for the win ...
  11. Because the Brewers' social media team's sole focus is to film cutsey videos of Hank the Dog.
  12. The team's social media people are apparently too busy filming videos of Travis Shaw loading ding-dongs on a trailer to deal with this kind of thing.
  13. Awesome! Getting good Domingo back would go a long way toward fotifying the lineup. Returning back to himself, hopefully... Yep. Lets see him sustain it for a week, then get that hot bat back in Milwaukee. I don't even care if he's getting a Colorado Springs hitting bump tonight. His good has been so few and far between this season, I'll take it.
  14. I would classify Yelich and Cain as "sell out" moves. I guess I prefer to wait until Aug. 1 to judge Stern's performance during this season. He's made some nice depth moves grabbing Saladino and Miller.
  15. Gosh I really hope you are kidding. It's the All Star game. If you can't find enjoyment watching the All Star game, I ... I just don't know.
  16. I lean that way as well. I just wish the Brewers didn't play in a division with a team built with an even stronger foundation. My hope is that the Cubs crappy farm system will eventually come back to bite them, but unfortunately they are a team that can just throw money at a problem as it comes up. I think the Brewers have 4-5 year window of being a strong contender, but its going to be tough dealing with the Cubs every one of those years. It is arguable that compiling one year of a dream team may put them over the top. Of course, it is also arguable that this may not be the year to put together than dream team.
  17. How do you know Machado puts them over the top? I don't for certain..but what I am 100% certain of is Manny would have given them a FAR better chance of putting them over the top THIS YEAR, than anyone they would have included in the trade..because it's probable not a single one of them is even on the MLB roster right now, or if they are..they are not major contributors. It's playing the odds, and in this instance..what they would have given up, had far less odds of being significant contributors to their success this year than Manny would have. It's that simple. I hear ya man, and I don't think you are wrong. Both sides of this argument are right, though, which makes it more frustrating. It's a matter of preference whether you want them to sell out for a World Series this season, or prefer a slow build to long-term contention. As I mentioned before, there are major risks to both philosophies, especially when you play in the same division as a team like the Cubs with a young, extremely talented core and money to burn.
  18. Awesome! Getting good Domingo back would go a long way toward fotifying the lineup.
  19. I don't even think that would do it. Perhaps Brewcrewin07 has developed the science to clone Corbin Burnes and Keston Hiura? Those seem to be the only guys other teams want.
  20. Agreed. Need more length from the starting rotation. I think that comes with the acquisition of a starter, and Counsell loosening his short leash on some of the current starters.
  21. I'll admit that the idea of watching Machado rake at SS for the Brewers for the remainder of the season was pretty exciting. But ... it's debatable whether a decision like that would be in the long term best interest of the team. However, if we are looking for an opening to get above the Cubs, it's going to be difficult. They have more money, and have a younger and arguable more talented core. There may be seasons where the Brewers can get hot and jump ahead of the Cubs ... but I think both teams are pretty well positioned to be neck-and-neck rivals for the next 4-5 seasons. I guess that's what bums me out a bit on the whole Machado thing. He may just have been the missing piece to balance the power against the Cubs, at least for this season. You guys are right, though, that Stearns has time to make some moves to improve this club, but for the short and long term this season. If he can pull off a deal for a top starting pitcher, catcher or middle infielder (deGrom, Realmuto or Merrifield would be my dream) with control, using the pieces that would have been dealt for Machado, that won't be bad at all. Heck, even if he could pull in someone like Dozier to shore up the middle infield and bottom of the order this season, it will put them in much better position as a playoff contender. So I guess, while not getting Machado is a bummer, Stearns still has time to position this team for a strong run at the postseason. And going into this season, that's what we all wanted.
  22. I sure hope that Corbin Burnes proves Stearns right ...
  23. The issue is, right field was never really in question. It was always Santana's to lose. Braun wasn't going to move there, and we've all seen now how Yelich's arm in RF is a liability. I have no doubt it is a mental thing. And that sucks, because the guy arguably has more talent than anyone on the roster. I wouldn't place any bets saying that the Brewers are done with him, though. I imagine he'll be back in the bigs at some point. I just hope that is because he earned it, and not because the team didn't have another choice.
