  1. 3 Ks last night ... not nice.
  2. I say leave 'em there until each puts together a solid week at the plate. Domingo blasted 2 HRs Tuesday night, then followed it up with 3 Ks yesterday. No thanks. He can continue to "get right" in Colorado Springs until he lowers that K rate, and hits with power more consistently. Plus I'd like to see Phillips get a little longer look in RF. Not a super long leash with him, though, either, as he's been a disappointment in both AAA and at the Major League level this year, save one game. I have a little more leeway with Arcia because he plays such great defense. But if Saladino continues to play well, there isn't as much urgency there, either.
  3. I just don't think continuing to play the "bullpen game" is sustainable. We saw it last week. The pen was gassed, and we were left shorthanded there due to a bunch of short starts in a row. Now perhaps if some of our starters come back, we can perhaps shift Peralta and Suter to bullpen roles. I just think having a starter that can provide a consistent 6+ innings nearly every time out would be a huge help.
  4. I guess if we were trading for him to play 2B, maybe. I don't want to see him at SS, though. He wasn't a good SS in his young years, and his range and instincts have only gone the other way since.
  5. The love affair everyone has with Archer boggles my mind. Really? You don't understand how a durable cost-controlled starting pitcher with great stuff may be of interest? Even if some of his peripherals are trending in the wrong direction?
  6. I wouldn't say that is light. Ray is a former 5th pick in the draft who is having a very nice season. Meideros is another former 1st rounder pitching very well in AA. Of course, we all know Brown is pitching great at AA as well. Just because a deal doesn't include Burnes or Hiura doesn't mean it is light. This one would sting.
  7. LOL ... you made that bed, and now you're sleeping the heck out of it!
  8. How many people are going to tune in mid-game and think that Craig Counsell somehow activated himself?
  9. Well, if any team could use some positive PR right now ....
  10. Can I ask why Syndergaard and not deGrom? deGrom, at least to me, is the better pitcher, is having a better season, and is much less of an injury risk. Yes a few years older, but that seems like the only downside to me.
  11. LOL, I think Merrifield is controlled through 2022, so he would actually fit the "window" perfectly. He's the type of high contact table setter that this lineup could use right now. If he is acquired, it would free up Hiura to be used in a trade for a high end pitcher or catcher. At least I think that is the thought.
  12. True, but you can't say I'm not suspending you be because you did the moronic thing, but rather because it was moronic to not cover it up. If he gets suspended it is gong to be directly because of tweets he made as a 17 year old seven years ago. Not because he was a moron and didn't delete them. It is hate speech that was visible on a public profile attributed and owned by Josh Hader. He admitted that he made the tweets. It really doesn't matter when he did it with there is a very public paper trail. That's why he'll likely face discipline. Unfortunately there isn't really a statute of limitations when it comes to the court of public opinion. As a Brewer fan, I would hate to see him suspended. Heck, he is arguably the MVP of the team so far. But, in the interest of PR and putting this behind them, it would probably be in the team's best interest to levy some sort of discipline on him.
  13. It wouldn't be a suspension for what he did at 17. It would be a suspension for being a moron. Yeah, he was a kid when he wrote that stupid stuff, but apparently he also didn't think it mattered enough to go back and delete those tweets once he was in the public eye. That's the choice he made as an adult, and likely why there will be consequences. You can't suspend someone for being a moron. I beg to differ. I would say the vast majority of suspensions occur because the subject did something moronic.

  15. First off can we agree not all “rentals” are equal? Machado is not your average mlb player. People should focus more on who the player is. Instead all some focus on is the fact that his contract is up after this year. Additionally, just because Machado would have been a rental doesn’t automatically make it a bad deal. CC Sabathia was a rental. How many people are complaining about that trade? It all depends on who you give up for him and even then it’ll take years to know how good of a trade it turned out to be. I don’t think anyone would have argued we should have traded Hiura and Burnes to get Machado. But we do have some decent talent that, in all honestly, probably won’t make an impact at the major league level. So trading those guys, while it may hurt our system ranking, really wouldn’t have much of an effect on the franchise. I don’t know what was offered to get Machado. But I’d have been perfectly ok moving the Woodruffs, the Gatewoods, the Laras, the Diplans or the Ponces of the system to get him. For all we know, it is possible, if not likely, that the Orioles demanded Burnes in any deal for Machado. Heck, for all we know, he may have been part of that "runner up" package.
  16. Jeff Ames was drafted by the Rays 10 picks after they took Jake Hager in the 2011 draft. Hager was a 1st rounder, Ames a Comp-A rounder. Matt Arnold had a hand in bringing them together back in 2011, and now again in 2018. Appears to be a hard throwing reliever. 27 years old. Great K numbers throughout his minor league career. Has battled wildness. Kind of that Turnbow/Axford/Kolb mold. Great guy to take a chance on.
  17. Agreed with everything. My call for a suspension isn't to placate me. It's to send a message to women, African Americans and the gay community that MLB takes this seriously, and that the game is punishing a player to has shown himself to be disrespectful of them. I think it's possible to believe Hader's comments last night and still need to punish him for allowing this stain to happen. Yep, you punish him for being an idiot, not for being insensitive. The only precedent that sets is "hey, if you were once an idiot, take precautions to scrub it."
  18. I've never been a proponent of making a move just to make a move, but I pretty much agree with you here. This team has to find something positive and exciting quickly. This first week back from the break is going to be a strong test of the team's fortitude.
  19. I remember last winter when someone suggested that Brett Lawrie should be a consideration for the Brewers' 2B hole, it was met almost immediately with some old photos and other stuff of him being an idiot as a teenager. I totally agree that people can mature and change, but in this age of social media, everyone's history is out there for all to see. If Hader was too dumb to go back and get rid of that stuff, I agree he should face consequences for being a moron, not for being a racist bigoted homophobe, which I don't believe he is.
  20. It's more than that, though. It would be a suspension for tweets still available to the public up until yesterday.
  21. Was this the work of a group of hackers breaking into some long erased series of tweets? Or was it just a guy who left the door to his ugly past open for anyone to see? That's what I'm wondering too. I cannot believe this wouldn't have been unearthed before last night. It isn't like Hader hasn't been a star for roughly a year now. Plus the Brewers market the crap out of him. There is no way someone wouldn't have stumbled on this before now. I don't know ... seems fishy.
  22. Yes, you are correct. And that is exactly what they will do.
  23. Hiura maybe but Peralta and even Burnes? Next season for starting pitching option we have: Chacin. Guerra. Davies. Anderson. Nelson. Woodruff. Peralta. Burnes. Suter. Trading away a Peralta or a Woodruff would not create a hole. It was actually ease a logjam a bit, especially if they are traded for a pitcher. Ideally in the next year or two there would be a spot for Peralta, Burnes AND Woodruff but I don’t see that happening. So trading one of them now isn’t the end of the world. Obviously they have to be part of the right deal. I’m glad Burnes wasn’t traded for Machado. But if we’re going for Syndergaard or Degrom heck yeah I’d include two of Peralta Burnes Ortiz or Woodruff. I think it could be argued that you can trade those guys this off season for a guy who isn't a rental like Machado. Does this team lose a single free agent? I would guess Davies becomes expendable in a trade if the team wants to go younger. Wow, if 25 is old (Davies), I'm downright ancient. Not only does the team have guys like Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff and Houser that are immediately knocking on the rotation door, there are guys such as Zach Brown and Kodi Medeiros that are likely to be knocking on that same door by September or early next season. I agree that some of that depth could and probably should be used to firm up other roster/system holes.
  24. Yep, there is nothing good that can come from this thread. It should probably cease to exist.
  25. None. The Brewers won't trade him, and no team is going to trade from him.
