  1. Agreed, and if it were my call, I'd get Cobb in camp tomorrow. But apparently Stearns and the Brewers are seeing something we aren't.
  2. Guerra hasn't pitched his way out of contention yet I don't think. I want Suter in the rotation but I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the pen to start the year. Counsell loves Suter. I don't think there's any way he isn't in the rotation at this point.
  3. "Hey, don't forget about me! I know I look like a 15-year-old, but I won 17 games with a 3.9 ERA, and I'm only 25!" - Zach Davies
  4. Where does the narrative that he doesn't want to pitch in Milwaukee come from? I don't get that feeling at all.
  5. Not a fan of the 3 walks, especially when his biggest problem last year was command.
  6. Unfortunately the battle for those last two spots comes down to guys with short track records and/or guys with pretty bad recent track records. This is not a battle of particularly attractive options. That's the truth. I've warmed to the idea of Suter in the rotation, as he's been pretty effective in his opportunities. Gotta be ready for shorter starts with him, though. Not grabbing another starter is putting a lot of blind faith in the coaches and their ability to fix some of these underperforming guys. Also putting a lot of pressure on Stearns himself, because if the rotation isn't good, he is going to hear a lot of second guessing.
  7. If Woodruff had more of a track record in MLB, his spring stats probably wouldn't matter too much. But he doesn't, so they likely do. Suter has a spot. I think I can say that with 100% certainty. The other spot will be either a FA pitcher, Guerra or probably Miley. I wish it were Woodruff, though.
  8. Am I the only one that doesn't find Tim Dillard that funny? I don't dislike the guy at all, seems like a fun guy to be around and good for the clubhouse. But his media and social media stuff is just lost on me I guess. I guess I could see how the goofball humor could be an acquired taste, but I think he's hilarious. I love professional athletes that can laugh at themselves and don't take themselves too seriously. They play a game for a living. Pro sports needs more Dillards. I think he's got a future as a broadcaster. The guy is actually very intelligent and knows baseball quite well. I'm sure that there were plenty of Brewer fans that found Uecker's humor unfunny and sophomoreish back in the '70s too.
  9. Position changes aren’t easy but he’ll be alright. Props to Braun for being open and willing to even go down this road. Not every player would. And this isn’t the first time. I agree. Typical Spring Training sore body story, only this time with a twist. I can't see the team using Braun as only a 4th outfielder, so I imagine as long as he adapts decently to playing 1B, he'll be out there 3-5 times a week. I'd be more than happy if Braun can play 80 games at 1B and another 50 in LF. Combined with being the primary DH in interleague games in AL stadiums, this should give him close to regular PT. Braun is still arguably the team's best pure hitter. If he can play, you want him to play. Having a healthy Braun on the bench is a waste, especially considering he is probably 98% sure to miss time during the season with injuries. With how much they are playing Yelich in RF, it's obvious they are trying to get him comfortable enough that he can play there when Braun is in LF. That makes me wonder if Santana may still be on his way out.
  10. Boras held his own thing for his guys. But Lynn was not at the IMG free agent training camp. Mostly AAAA-type guys were there. And Neil Walker.
  11. No, he's not, but the average casual fan and the media that cater to them arguably are. I'm not real sure what you are trying to get at. 100% of baseball media says we need pitching. It's likely that 95% of the hardcore baseball fans who post here agree. I mean there's not really much of an argument from anyone that the rotation is good to go. Perhaps Stearns is more comfortable with the rotation than all these people are. I know that the best GMs don't listen to outside noise. But at this point, it's gotta be pretty deafening. If they don't add to the rotation, and the offense proves playoff-worthy, but doesn't make it because of the rotation, the second guessing is going to be severe.
  12. I guess I was saying that it likely won't matter who takes the #5 spot, because between Miley, Gallardo and Guerra, they are likely to give you similar production, i.e. a 5-something ERA and starts that last 5 innings, putting more pressure on the pen. I guess I didn't word it very well. I hope that if they don't sign anyone, Woodruff would be the #5 pick, as at least he stands a chance of improving, and theoretically has the ability to pitch late into games and not get shelled. But it appears that since he has options, he'll be a AAA depth piece yet again. If we go into the season with Miley in the rotation, while knowing we could have signed Cobb or Arrieta to a fair contract, and we end up out of the playoffs by a game or two at the end of the year because Miley pitches like Wade Miley, it's going to be a bummer. I'm usually an eternal optimist, and even I don't see a guy like Miley being useful.
  13. Browns are cutting players from the previous regime they no longer feel fit their style. Gordon is a STUD when his head is on right, which it finally appears to be. They likely could have traded next to nothing for his rights last year at this time, but no one knew if he'd ever be back. But now that he's back in the fold, they expect him to be a legit All-Pro-caliber WR1 next year.
  14. Until Arrieta and Cobb sign with other teams, I'm going to continue to believe that one of them will be a Brewer. I have a hard time believing that Stearns is happy with the rotation when every time you turn on MLB Network or a baseball podcast, when they mention the Brewers, the first thing they mention is how they need rotation help. Stearns isn't an idiot, so unless he thinks Anderson or Davies is a future Cy Young candidate, he knows they could use another starter. I do think with Suter's start today, he's a 100% lock for a rotation spot. So that means its between Miley and Woodruff for the last spot if they don't sign anyone. But to be honest, it doesn't matter too much who takes that last spot, because all of them are likely going to be making starts at some point for the team.
  15. His posts were a fun way to pass time in what's been a slow offseason. Nothing more, nothing less. It's a shame that it eventually tuned into a flame war anytime he posted. My opinion is that there were several people here that were very disrespectful. The mods did a terrific job of cleaning up the messes, but that didn't stop the 3-4 regular aggressors from ganging up on him whenever he posted. I joined this forum and read it a lot because I thought it was better than that. I admit that I got skeptical of him back in late January, and called him out. Of course, that ended up being hours before the Yelich and Cain deals went down, so it couldn't have been worse timing. It made me look like an idiot. Perhaps he feels he has a source. He never struck me as a troll, and still doesn't I appreciated him because he came across to me as a huge Brewer fan, and was very optimistic and positive about the team's leadership and chances. While I think most of us here are also optimistic fans, there are several here, especially lately, that seem to enjoy knocking the team down, and knocking down posters showing optimism. They almost seem like they want the team to lose so they will be proven right in their pessimism. That attitude day after day has gotten old. I'm hoping that now that this chapter is behind us , and that opening day is only a few short weeks away, this board can get back to talking baseball instead of knocking each other down.
  16. There's a pretty massive yin to this yang that you aren't mentioning. It's all about showing respect for other people, regardless of if your opinion differs or you disagree.
  17. This makes sense, and I figured it was what was happening. Even though that is what was rumored to be turned down back in December from the Cubs, I think that's a fair offer for both sides at this juncture. I'd be surprised if he got a better offer than that at this point, too, unless there's a big injury somewhere.
  18. Visit went very well, and Wilkerson wants to play for Pettine and the Packers. But the Packers' offer is a pretty team/cap friendly deal, almost a "prove it" type contract. He may sign somewhere else if another team blows the Packers' offer out of the water, but if the offers he gets are close to equal, he's told the Packers they are #1 on his list. If he does sign somewhere else, though, the Packers are happy with Daniels, Clark and Lowry, with Adams and Dial in reserve. They do think Wilkerson could be a difference maker if his head is on straight, though.
  19. They made a call on Peters as well, but weren't will to give up anything more than a compensatory 5th for him. After dealing with the Randall headcase issues, they were hesitant to take on another potential malcontent. But Peters has the talent to be a stud in Pettine's defense. High risk, high reward.
  20. They had a trade all lined up with the Titans. Would have been Hundley and their 3rd 5th rounder (compensatory #174) for the Titans 4th rounder (#125). The Titans got cold feet at the last minute and backed out. The deal isn't totally dead yet, though. The Raiders also made a call about Hundley. Would be likely for a 5th or 6th rounder. Tells a lot of what teams think of Hundley. But it’d be nice to get anything and move on. Packers had very high hopes for Hundley going into the season. When Rodgers went down, the thought was that Hundley would come in and keep them in contention for a devision title until Rodgers came back, thereby increasing his value to the point where he could be dealt for a 2nd rounder this offseason (similar to the Garappolo deal). Needless to say, that didn't happen, and they were beyond disappointed. They admit he is/was a failure, and are ready to cut bait and move on to a new developmental guy. They do believe he showed enough to warrant a trade for a pick, though, and that is what is likely to happen. My personal opinion is that Kizer's absolute floor is Hundley right now. In fact, Kizer is probably already there.
  21. They had a trade all lined up with the Titans. Would have been Hundley and their 3rd 5th rounder (compensatory #174) for the Titans 4th rounder (#125). 22. Also, he is considered a developmental QB, and there's a good chance we won't be the #2 guy this year. Look for the team to still sign a veteran FA as a backup. Hundley is as good as gone. If someone offers a mid-round pick for him, they'll deal him in a heartbeat. Could be released as well. Very disappointed with his preparation last year. Apparently he's a guy who says all the right things, but doesn't follow through.
  23. He just turned 22, so he's still extremely young. The Packers loved him coming out last year, and nearly took him with the 33rd pick. If he were still on the board at pick 61 last year, he would have been the guy. Now they are getting him in exchange for what they consider basically a throw-away player. If he doesn't pan out and improve his accuracy, they can cut him and move on in relative short order. Very little risk in this deal.
  24. Pettine loves the idea of Matthews in his defense. His contract may be extended/restructured, but he isn't going anywhere.
  25. Also, the Packers loved Kizer coming out of college, and see him as smart and moldable into the quintessential McCarthy QB. They are very very happy to be able to get him for what they consider a throw-away player.
