  1. Did he delete the tweet youre inferring to? I think they're still up there...you just need to speculate: "He has a plan for me"= maybe I've been traded somewhere again and it's another bump in the road? "I know who my crew is" = the "Crew" may not be is crew now. Also a tweet about being ready for Spring Training to start in the middle of there which is just part of the story of those other 2. Well, sending Nottingham back in a deal with Cleveland for Salazar/Mejia would make sense. It would appear that Santana/Nottingham for Salazar/Mejia does make some sense. Mejia would immediately become the Brewers' #1 prospect and catcher of the future, and with little standing in his way in the upper minors, or really even the MLB squad, he could make a quick ascension. If that were the deal, though, this board might implode from happiness.
  2. Santana would have been worked into the original deal if the Marlins wanted him. They knew he was available.
  3. Agreed wholeheartedly. There is a reason that 99.9 percent of relievers are former starters. Starting pitchers are ALWAYS going to hold more value. That's why teams typically put their best arms in the rotation. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Brewers take the Chris Sale approach with Hader: Let him dominate as a reliever while honing in on perfecting his secondary stuff, then in year 3, you move him into the rotation. That's exactly what the White Sox did with Sale, and it worked to perfection. He cut his teeth as a reliever in 2010, then had a dominant 2011 as a reliever before moving to the rotation in 2012. Look for 2018 to be Hader's dominant reliever year, then open 2019 in the rotation.
  4. This is a little bit of a bummer, but I think it confirms that they aren't done shoring up the rotation. They'll sign one of the big free agents, or make a trade for a starter. THere's no way after the moves they made this week that they are content going into the season with the rotation as set.
  5. Wilkerson is still kicking around too. I would say what you have above is probably what it would be if the season started tomorrow. But I still believe the team will either trade from their OF depth for a starting pitcher, or sign one of the Arrieta/Cobb/Lynn trio. They didn't stick all this money and equity into the outfield and lineup without having a plan to solidify the starting rotation.
  6. Total misdirect. He can't say that a teammate is about to be traded .... but, a teammate is about to be traded. Putting Braun at 2B is an XBox move. While anyone would love his bat in the lineup at that spot, I can't think of anyone who has made a move from the outfield to the middle infield at the point in his career Braun is at. And with the way Stearns values up the middle defense, there is no way this is going to happen.
  7. That's ... um ... unexpected. Well, if I remember right, Braun's throwing was his biggest weakness as a 3rd baseman. At least the throw is shorter from 2nd. This talk screams misdirect, though. I still say Santana is dealt, and Broxton as well.
  8. The idea of Yelich in left most of the time, Cain in center and a platoon of Santana and Phillips in right is certainly not the worst thing in the world. Playing 1B could theoretically save some wear and tear on Braun's body. I still think there is a strong probability that Santana gets dealt, but the Brewers certainly don't need to deal him, which lets him maintain strong value. There will likely be some minor deals yet, though, as there is just too many players in Braun, Santana, Broxton, Thames and Aguiar for the spots that are available on the roster, and all of those players are too valuable to let go for nothing.
  9. Plus we need as much Jesus on this team as we can get to make a run! The next person who gives an even remotely rational reason for thinking last season's stats are a valid indicator of his future performance will be the first. How about just not being a pessimist?
  10. "Sorry to bother you Domingo, but after you're done playing Brewer Family Feud, signing this stack of 8x10s and posing for selfies with that line of fans, we need you to go take a physical. Thing is, it's in Tampa Bay. Here's a plane ticket."
  11. I understand speculating, but this is strip mall psychic reading-level. How could you possibly know what other teams are offering for Domingo? For all we know, Stearns has multiple offers on the table for him, and is taking hid time and researching the best one. The fact of the matter is, Santana is a tough fit for the way this team is looking to be constructed.
  12. To clarify, all he said 2 days ago was that Domingo was going to be traded to an AL team, possibly as soon as tomorrow (yesterday). He never specified that it was definitely going to happen today if not by yesterday. I suppose that would be my expectation with Fan Fest tomorrow. Although having Yelich and Cain in attendance may be the excitement they were looking for. They do like to announce deals there, though.
  13. Well, HighHeat19 was pretty adamant that Santana would be traded either yesterday or today, so I'm expecting a deal to be announced at some point today. If it doesn't happen, it likely means that whichever AL team Stearns had a deal set up with backed out. In that case, I think he continues to shop Santana, and as dominos start to fall with the other free agent outfielders and power hitters, he should be able to find a match.
  14. Cain too. He’s been banged up over his career. If Santana is moved, Phillips will do well with playing time. As long as he produces. If both Broxton and Santana are moved, Phillips will likely get near-regular playing time. Another guy to keep an eye on is Kyle Wren. He isn't young anymore, but profiles as a solid defender at all three outfield positions, and is a good speed/contact guy at the plate. A team could do much, much worse for a 4th/5th outfielder. The question is whether it is feasible to carry another guy who strictly plays the outfield when guys like Villar, Sogard, Perez and Thames can also play out there reasonably well in a pinch. Stearns seems to be putting a premium on defense, and Wren is light years better as a defender than Villar, Sogard and Perez.
  15. Yep, exactly. Of course, players with the value of Yelich don't come on the market very often. It was the perfect storm of new ownership, cost cutting, a fire sale, and him wanting out that made him available. Typically a star-type player signed to his affordable contract wouldn't be going anywhere. That's why the team had to give up plenty to get him. They had to outbid probably 10-12 other teams. Santana is even cheaper, younger, and is controlled for the next 4 years. He isn't the all-around player Yelich is, but he still carries a big value. I have a feeling that if he is traded, we'll be very happy with the return.
  16. I don't know. He did go a little scorched earth on his way out of town. In hindsight, considering how competitive the team was last year, he probably made a mistake requesting a trade. But ... Brinson was just the main piece that brought us Yelich, and Cordell brought Swarczak last year, who was studly and nearly got the team over the playoff hump. And we still have Ortiz, who is a top 5 prospect in the system. Turned out to be a pretty dang fine deal. I guess I wouldn't mind him back in a timeshare with Pina. I think he's probably better than Vogt, defensively at least.
  17. Miller Park is a better offensive park than what he's used to. I would imagine that evens out some.
  18. Oh man, I don't think I want to know what the cost would be there.
  19. The team just traded arguably their two top OF prospects. I think the onus is on Grisham and Ray to start fulfilling their potential. I imagine both will be at AA this year. Time to put up or shut up.
  20. What do you mean? Sogard was the first big free agent signing.
  21. True, but I'm going to go ahead and place my faith in HH19 at this point. He made no bones about it being an AL team. The guy is batting a thousand That is true. Right now, I'm hoping for Stroman, but Archer, Salazar, Manea, Odorizzi are possibilities. Or if they deal Santana for prospects, that opens up teams like the Red Sox. Who knows? Fun time to be a Brewer fan right now.
  22. Are we looking to reserve the Greinke trade one player at a time? Ha, that thought crossed my mind. But no, I was more looking at the pitchers out there we could theoretically acquire for Santana without having to add more top prospects.
  23. Wow. No clue about the second trade. Phillips or Broxton, likely. Assuming of course they're not involved directly in the Santana deal. That would be my guess as well, with the other guy staying as the likely 4th OF. Wonder if Odorizzi is a potential target in a Santana deal? Not a #1 guy, but a solid #2-3. Plus, they might deal him straight up for Domingo.
  24. Back to Cain, I think it's awesome that he's coming back to where it all started for him. Plus, he is a guy with playoff experience and has been consistent his whole career. I kind of wonder if Odorizzi is a potential target in a Santana deal? Cain, Jeffress and Odorizzi back together! A 2010 trade reunion LOL. Wonder if Alcides is interested in playing 2B?
  25. Santana is cheap and has several years of control. Also, he could be flipped at any time to a contender for a haul at the deadline. Don't discount that idea.
