  1. My assumption is that they have a deal for Santana lined up, but were only going to execute it if they could land Yelich. I think the Santana move happens fairly quickly now. I imagine Broxton will be dealt as well. If not, maybe Phillips is packaged with Santana for a high-end starter. In any case, I think the next move has already been made. Just needs to be executed.
  2. stroman and devon travis What would that look like? I imagine Stroman would be Santana and Burnes at least. Maybe Santana straight up for Travis?
  3. I know that HH has said that Darvish isn't coming to the Brewers, but I do kind of wonder if today's moves is making Yu rethink his stance on the prospect of being the team's ace?
  4. Please tell me he's headed to Tampa? Archer Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff Nelson coming back HOLY ****!! I know that is better than in the past, but that rotation is still missing a real TOR starter. That isn't enough to push us past the Cubs, or the other big boys in the NL for sure. Archer is a NO for me, just don't see what all the fuss is about with him. High K's, that is great, but his ERA is trending in the wrong direction the past two years. I don't want the guy. By your definition, there are what, maybe 3-4 TOR starters in existence?
  5. Stroman, but that is probably a pipe dream.
  6. That's the only thing that makes sense. A place he can DH and play part time in the OF. Will be interesting to see what kind of value another team places on him. Offense is good, defense leaves a lot to be desired. But power hitters are very valuable.
  7. Well, I'll give credit where it is due. HighHeat19 nailed this one. I was getting frustrated by the lack of info coming out on it, but it happened nearly exactly as he said it would, right down to the return stinging. I imagine that Yamamoto was the sweetener on the deal. I really like the deal. Yes, we gave up up some great prospects, but that's exactly what they are - prospects. Not sure things. Also, we greatly improve the major league squad without giving up any major league talent. In fact, other than Brinson, the prospects given up were all several years from being major league contributors. And Brinson wasn't even a sure thing for this year. I would have loved to see what he could do if given the chance, but I'm more than happy with Yelich and Cain making up 2/3 of the outfield. I imagine Phillips will take over for Braun eventually as well, leaving a very skilled, athletic outfield.
  8. A guy like Dubon could probably see time at SS this season if Arcia wasn't in the mix. Isan Diaz could also see the upper minors this year, but isn't near the defender at SS that Arcia or Dubon are.
  9. Arcia is a stellar defensive SS who is 23, coming into his own offensively and is making peanuts. And yes, Realmuto has control, but so does Pina at a much cheaper rate. Finances do also play a large part in this scenario. Hopefully this is a moot point. I don't think the Brewers will be giving up any of their big league pieces for Yelich.
  10. Of course you do, but don't throw a huge discount on the players on our MLB roster either. Trade Woodruff, there's another hole on the MLB roster. This is turning into a "grass is always greener" argument. Yes, the marlins have some great pieces that I'd love for the Brewers to get their hands on, but filling holes by creating holes is akin to running on a treadmill. I mean, the MLB team won 86 games, and was a playoff contender up until the last 3 games. These players are not bums!
  11. Well, Groome is 19, Raudes is 20 and Hernandez is 21, so no, they wouldn't be helping any time soon. And you've made your worry about the rotation PERFECTLY clear over and over. Remember, there are still several solid free agent starters out there, and Chacin also can replace a lot of Nelson's lost value.
  12. I think that is a big overpay on the Brewers' end. Castro's contract almost gives him negative value, and Yelich and Realmuto have asked to be traded, reducing the Marlins' leverage. I would be more inclined to say Yelich/Realmuto/Castro for Arcia/Pina and maybe Broxton or a lower-level prospect like Supak or Ponce. Major league players carry a much higher value than prospects. Castro's owed just under $23M over the next two years. For a 1-2 WAR, maybe even 3, 28 year old that's almost chump change in todays' game. And it's only for 2 years. Look at it as Yelich and Arcia cancelling each other out. Would you give up Harrison, Phillips, Woodruff and Pina for Realmuto and Castro? Pina isn't just a throw-in in this deal, as he's a solid catcher. So we are talking two Top 100 outfielders and a young rotation piece for a decent catcher upgrade and a solid SS. Boy, that still seems rich.
  13. I don't think its fair to Arcia as a 23-year-old to project him as a 2.5 WAR player. Yes, he will likely not provide the offensive value Yelich does, but he plays a premium defensive position, and his offense has improved and should continue to. Offering Arcia, plus a Top 100 outfielder and a very solid starting pitching prospect is a HUGE overpay in my book.
  14. Davies/Arcia>>>>>>>>>>>Greinke at this point in his career. That would be a scary bad trade even if Arizona paid all of Greinke's salary. Plus, why in the world would we trade a starter going into his age 25 season who is cost-controlled for several more seasons and already profiles as a strong #3? This is one of the more "out there" scenarios I've seen.
  16. I would argue that Arcia's age, cheap contract, stellar defense and years of control make him arguably more valuable than Yelich. If we are talking Arcia for Yelich, the other pieces I imagine would be minor. There's no way we include Ray, who's still a top 10 organizational prospect. Now if we're talking about trading Arcia for a package that include Yelich, Castro, Realmuto or other pieces, we might be on to something. Don't discount the value that Arcia has, though. It is very, very high.
  17. I would rank Castro far above Yuni B as a replacement SS if that was the deal. Villar has the athleticism to play there, but would obviously be a big downgrade. I would say he potentially could be better offensively, though, if he could recapture his 2016 magic. Hernan is nice to have around, but we're in trouble if he's starting at SS. I guess Sogard could play there as well. I don't know ... Dubon is considered a very good to great SS, but I never hear him mentioned in the same breath as Arcia defensive ability-wise. Also, can be make enough contact to be a starting SS for a contender?
  18. According to https://www.royalsreview.com/2017/8/3/16087764/lets-look-at-lorenzo-cains-defense-this-year, it is trending downward, but considering he was considered an elite talent in CF only a couple years ago, he'd still be considered serviceable out there. Of course, if we are talking about a 4-year deal, and the trend continues, things don't look great once you get into 2020 territory. Is it possible that he remains an above-average defender and hitter into his mid 30s? Sure ... but not likely.
  19. I know someone yesterday mentioned Arcia as a potential target for Yelich, but I don't think there was anything to back that up. Well, here's something: https://www.fishstripes.com/2018/1/24/16925838/miami-marlins-christian-yelich-mlb-trade-rumors-target-milwaukee-brewers-shortstop-orlando-arcia Personally, I don't like the idea of creating a hole to fill one, and it is arguable that the team even has an OF hole to fill. I would imagine that Arcia's and Yelich's values are somewhat similar. Perhaps if the Marlins also send Starlin Castro, this works, but I think that would be a downgrade for the Brewers. Maybe the team thinks Dubon is closer to ready than a lot of us think? I'm fine with giving up prospects for Yelich, but when we start talking about fleecing the MLB roster, that's a little more scary.
  20. Santana is a spectacular fit in that lineup and in that park. Not sure there's a match trade-wise, though. Most of the Red Sox best prospects are lower level guys. I guess that helps stack the system, but doesn't provide immediate dividends.
  21. This thread is a fine summary of January baseball.
  22. Who's pushing away information? Being skeptical of information is a far, far cry from pushing it away. I appreciate HH's posts over the last few days, as they have brought a modicum of excitement to what's been, as I said before, a slow as molasses offseason for the Brewers. If this Yelich deal comes to fruition, I will be happy, and it will lend some verification to HH's insider cred, even though it was out that the Brewers had a trade offer for Yelich before HH started talking about it. If they don't land Yelich ... eh, it happens. Trades fall through probably more than any of us realize. I just see people on this thread begging HH for any snippet of info, and living on every post, and that at times isn't fair to him or them.
  23. Hey man, if you are going to claim to be an insider, but provide vague info, you have to expect skeptics. I'd love to see Yelich as much as anyone here. But your posts are getting a lot of fans' hopes up around here in what's been a slow as molasses offseason. I hope you are right, but I guess nothing would surprise me at this point.
