  1. The franchise got what it wanted out of the arrangement. This was always going to be the result.
  2. if you don't think Madison has back avenue ways to throw money at football players, you are mistaken. Heck, you don't even need to "back avenue" payments anymore.
  3. It honestly made no sense in pretty much every aspect there is. I can honestly not think of one good reason Wisconsin would be a better pick over USC or dozens of other schools. $$$
  4. The two sides are engaged in a game of high-stakes chicken, and baseball fans are tied to the grill of the car. It's the wealthy versus the ultra-wealthy. Greed versus greed. Many owners lose money on games played in April and May, so I'm sure they have no problem postponing the start of the season to let this drag on, when in reality they could likely iron out their differences this week.
  5. Not really "lots", but several contributors would either have to be jettisoned, or renegotiate/drop their salaries. The only surefire guys who are probably gone are Cobb, Lewis and Crosby, and probably one of the Smiths. What it would do, though, is make it difficult to re-sign many of the veteran free agents this team is going to have, including Campbell, Douglas, Valdez-Scantling, Tonyan, St. Brown, and Lazard.
  6. This hasn't happened. Pretty sure Ken Ingalls is simply speculating on what cost-savings moves they could make.
  7. Two years in a row of the NFC representative getting a home game for the Super Bowl. That's a funny coincidence.
  8. According to this article, it has happened several times in the past few seasons: https://lionswire.usatoday.com/lists/history-of-the-tag-and-trade-outcomes-for-franchise-players-and-teams/ Adams is arguably more valuable than any player on that list. I would expect at least a 1st, or a good player and a 2nd or 3rd. Thanks for the article. The only thing I ponder is many of the guys listed are defensive guys...mostly pass rushers I think. Is the value they are garnering due to the rarity of them, whereas a WR is a bit easier to just go pluck out of FA. You won't find a Davante Adams...but good WRs usually are somewhat easier to find. Though that article does make me think the Packers might at least expect a 2nd rounder for Adams considering his elite difference maker ability at his position. Those pass rushers were all good, but none were ever considered to be in the top 2-3 at their position. Adams, on the other hand, most definitely is up there with Kupp, Samuel and perhaps a few others at the top of the WR heap, if not 1A. Players like him simply don't make it to free agency. Of the WRs who look to be available in free agency, only Chris Godwin even comes close to approaching Adams' talent level, and of course he's coming off a late-season torn ACL. Otherwise you are looking at flawed players like Allen Robinson, Will Fuller, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Williams. So yeah, some team will pony up a nice return for Adams if that is the Packers' play.

  10. Now word that the Packers are blocking Stenovich from interviewing for OC jobs. Seems that the writing may be on the wall that he'll be the choice to succeed Hackett. That likely means that Getsy is gone.
  11. When was the last time that a two-year consecutive League MVP was traded, though? This situation is pretty unprecedented. Especially if he is willing to sign an extension with whatever team he goes to, they could be looking at up to a 5-year window of contention with him, considering he's said on numerous occasions that he wants to continue to play into his mid-40s. Yes, injuries may happen, or the wheels may come flying off athletically at some point, but other than a somewhat down 2019 season under a new coach, there really hasn't been much indication of that.
  12. Exactly. The Packers lost to the Bucs on Jan. 24, 2021, and didn't announce they were moving on from Mike Pettine at DC until late in the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 29. I remember plenty of teeth-gnashing when he wasn't fired immediately the Monday after the game. That ended up turning out OK. Did you know the defense ended up ranking exactly the same this year in points and yards allowed as they did last year? Yep. But do you think anyone saw this year's defense and thought that it wasn't better than last year's? Sometimes the numbers don't actually tell the whole story.
  13. Excellent show. Kinda went off the rails Season 4 when they fired Dan Harmon, but Season 5 and 6 were pretty great again, even though they weirdly retired Chevy Chase's character.

  15. Huh? That's not how this works. The argument is that Lazard has the best blocking SKILL in the NFL. It adds to his value. What does Kupp have to do with that? I mean, Adams is a good blocker as well. But just because those guys catch 140 balls doesn't mean they are BETTER blockers.
  16. His ego couldn't handle the notoriety that McGwire and Sosa got.
  17. Like it or not, even marginal WRs have offseason value. Lazard probably isn't a 2, but he's likely a 3 most places. The Packers just paid their aging 3 $5.5 million last year, so I'd think they'll be fine paying Lazard $3.3 with no commitment or bonuses beyond that. It is obviously subjective, but Lazard is probably the best blocking WR in the NFL. He'd probably be classified as a TE for a lot of other teams.
  18. Clemens never failed a test, his name was not on the affidavit for the Grimsley search warrant, and was acquitted of all charges of lying to Congress. And pretty much everyone who has accused Clemens of doing PEDs is a questionable character at best - every mention of Clemens in the Mitchell report was from McNamee. Don't get me wrong, Clemens is a prick, but he hasn't failed a test nor has he been found guilty of lying. Same is true of Barry Bonds. The media made him the poster child for steroids without acknowledging or understanding the quality of actual evidence against him. (I personally think he probably was using something, but to what extent is not clear. The mere fact that he bulked up as he got older and made a deliberate choice to change his physique is such nonsense "evidence.") The normal human body typically cannot go from what he looked like in 1996 to what he looked like in 1998 without external chemical help. Yes, you can hit the weights, but they don't make your head larger. Bonds went from looking like Willie Mays to looking like Shrek in less than two seasons.
  19. Bears fired Ryan and Matt .... only to hire Ryan and Matt. Funny coincidence.
  20. I'm definitely taking the field if we're putting odds on Green Bay or the field. I don't think people fully appreciate the amount of cap gymnastics they are going to have to do to get under the cap. They are basically 45-50M over right now with their reserve/future contracts and that is with Adams having no contract. It isn't like prior offseasons when they could just figure it out with a few restructures, and I don't see Rodgers back if Adams isn't. As the wheeling and dealing that the Chiefs and the Rams in particular have done over the last few years proves, the salary cap is very fluid. Fans also tend to make more of it than they probably should. The fact remains that if the Packers truly want Rodgers back next year, and he wants to be back, it will happen. And they will be able to surround him with the talent to make another run at a Super Bowl. Yes, it is likely that several veteran pieces (Crosby, Cobb, at least one of the Smiths) will be cap casualties, but there are certainly ways the team can bring back Rodgers, Adams and a big majority of their core. What they won't have is much if any money to spend in free agency, so that would be bargain hunting and signing vets to cheap deals looking to get in on a "Last Dance II" Super Bowl run, along with drafting 2-3 immediate contributors.
  21. They are. Cruise control.
  22. Nathaniel Hackett officially hired as the new HC in Denver. That eliminates one of the big boulders in the way a potential Rodgers to Denver scenario - the old fossil of a coach they had there. I'd still say that odds likely favor him coming back to Green Bay next year, along with the Packers doing enough to run it back again, but I imagine Denver is now the frontrunner should the divorce officially happen this offseason.
  23. Bingo. Ortiz generally comes off as a happy, affable dude, and has a feel-good story. Clemens and Bonds were surly pricks on the field, and as it turns out, off the field and following retirement as well. Should a Hall of Famer be judged on the content of their character? The never-ending, age-old rhetorical question ...
  24. Relievers rarely appear on Top 30 lists because the majority of MLB relievers were starters in the minors. Rarely do you see strict relievers who are actual prospects. Also, Luke Barker will be 30 years old in about a month and a half. That's why he isn't considered a prospect. Tristen Lutz is 23. Age plays a role in prospect status.
  25. Feels like Denver is going to talk themselves into Hackett on the mere hope it might improve their chances of being the trade partner if Rodgers and the Packers mutually agree to part ways. I mean, Nathaniel Hackett was the OC for a Blake Bortles-led offense that made the AFC Championship game not too long ago, so it isn't like he doesn't have any bonafides.
