  1. I think the only way that would happen is if they find a way to hitch their wagon to Rodgers for the next 3-4 seasons. He's said that he wants to play into his mid-40s in the past, but seems to be going the Favre route now of wavering on whether he wants to commit to the offseason work he'd need to do to continue his career. it would also give the appearance that the front office made a mistake by drafting Love in the first place. Of course that really isn't true, as 2019 Aaron Rodgers came pretty close to resembling the player we saw last Saturday, but for a whole season. I don't blame them for putting a contingency plan in place, even if that contingency never actually comes to fruition.
  2. Why would Love need to be dealt? He's still a very inexpensive backup QB. It's year 5 when the escalator would kick in. If he needs to play a big role this year, and it looks like he's the heir apparent at this time next year, they could make the decision then. Not sure when they'd need to decide to pick up that 5th year though.
  3. I think if Rodgers is pack, so is Adams. Package deal. A lot of cap gymnastics would need to be done, but that sort of thing is done often. Only way Adams is back without Rodgers here is if the Packers trade Rodgers to the Raiders, and Carr is part of the return.
  4. Sean Payton has decided to "step away" from his role as head coach of the Saints, per Ian Rapoport.
  5. Godwin and Fournette are both unrestricted free agents, along with several members of that defensive front 7. The Bucs have plenty of work ahead of them to stay relevant if Brady hangs them up.
  6. Kind of the way I feel. His writing was pretty good, but he never really broke any news and he just became so crusty on twitter. Happy for him that he gets to retire. Even happier we have amazing writers like McCalvy and Sammon on the beat. Exactly how I felt about the guy. Never disliked him, but was never excited about anything he did. I had a feeling he was probably a little smug, especially if he was ever called out. I hope he has a good retirement and glad to hear may of the people around him thought he was a good guy. I think this is pretty fair. I always got the feeling that if fans and readers were jerks to him, he returned the favor. Part of me wonders if those here saying things like "good riddance" aren't perhaps holding a bit of a grudge because they fell into that category? Haudricourt is a solid writer who is miscast as a beat writer in the era of social media. His gamers were typically solid if not very good, and his features and notes columns typically were quality and featured enough nuggets of info to keep you interested. I'm personally not real excited about Rosiak being the lead beat guy, as his gamers appear as though they are written on a template, and he has next to no social media presence. Whoever they find as a tag-team partner will be a big deal, and likely play a big part in whether I continue to subscribe. Robert Murray is a terrific beat writer, and I really wish an outlet would find a way to get him back on the Brewers beat. But I imagine the MJS will likely promote someone from within.
  7. I mean, this idea is just as much speculation as the idea that Amari Rodgers could have played a bigger role in the offense this season had Cobb not been there. As it was, Amari Rodgers barely got any time with the 1s, as he was basically the strict backup to Cobb. Of course Aaron Rodgers isn't gonna trust the rookie that he isn't getting any time with in practice. Cobb suffered his core muscle injury Nov. 28, and Rodgers was already not practicing (or barely practicing) with his toe injury, so he never had any chance to establish any kind of rapport with Amari Rodgers. Maybe Amari Rodgers will be another nothing. But we just don't know. Because he was never given any sort of opportunity to find anything on offense this year.
  8. Sheesh, how much do you think a solid middle reliever is worth in a trade? Taylor is likely never going to be a world-beater, but he's proven that he is worthy of being a starting OFer (even in CF), and is still fairly young, controllable and inexpensive. I think that you are greatly undervaluing him for some reason.
  9. I was intrigued by Cobb coming aboard, and he did have some moments this year, but in hindsight, I wish that Amari Rodgers would have gotten those slot reps. Rodgers played a lot of special teams, but he's basically starting from scratch again next season at WR ... and as the only WR currently under contract, he's likely going to have to play a huge role in next year's offense, regardless of who is under center.
  10. Plus this offense has never had issues moving the ball when Adams is out due to injury. It can be argued that they are actually more efficient because the coaching staff draws up a better scheme and Rodgers actually spreads the ball around more. There have been games where both MVS and Lazard have looked like #1-type WRs. I mean, yeah, Justin Jefferson would look great in green and gold. Hell, Odell Beckham would have been a pretty interesting addition this season. But when Rodgers is in peril, throughout his career, he's looked for his #1 guy. Before Adams it was Nelson. It's gotten worse as he's gotten older, though. 2010 Rodgers was a master at spreading the ball around. This current version of him, for all the good that he does, isn't that.
  11. Part of me wonders if the Packers were perhaps looking past the 49ers a bit with the decisions to hold Bahktiari and MVS out. Hindsight is 20/20, but in a low-scoring game decided by a last-second field goal, having your top O-lineman and fastest WR may just have made the difference.
  12. How bad do they want to win? Lance for Rodgers in some sort of package deal? Only if the Packers are kicking in a couple first round picks. LOL ... Lance is a decent prospect, but not THAT decent. There are QBs in every draft who are comparable talentwise, including this one.
  13. I hope that it ends fairly quickly, strictly for the state of the local sports fanbase. With the Packers' disappointing end, a little hot stove action would be nice to break up the rest of the winter monotony.
  14. Me too. Jordan Love may never be anything more than a middling NFL QB. But it's time to find that out.
  15. Except that Turner wasn't the problem (and he was the LT, not the LG). Bosa had two sacks and two QB hits - he was LDE and lined up across from Kelly. Armstead had two sacks and two QB hits - he's the LDT and lined up across from Patrick. Ebukam was lined up across from Turner and he had one sack and one QB hit, but Bosa and Armstead were the much bigger problems. Exactly. Turner was decent at LT last night. I honestly think the better idea would have been to start Yosh at LT and Turner at RT. Kelly had some nice blocks last night, but he was beaten and ragdolled plenty too.
  16. Rodgers is getting thrown under the bus because this team was built around the idea of him playing at an MVP level. He was FAR from it last night. Perhaps those are unrealistic expectations, but it is what it is. This team was always going to go as far at #12 took them. He wasn't good enough last night, and the season is over because of that. Sure, other factors were in play, but the defense game up 6 points. The team in total gave up 13. An offense led by an MVP QB should be able to top that.
  17. I'd think the Saints, Raiders and Broncos would love to have him, hell, probably the 9ers too. If Rodgers grew up a 9ers fan, he might like to go to SF more than any other team... Jimmy G is horrible, seems like a good fit. If Brady retires, the Bucs could be added to that list as well... Niners would make sense, but that would be almost the same situation as GB, with a 1st rounder in Lance waiting behind him. I doubt he goes anywhere where he wouldn't be the absolute unquestioned starter/savior.
  18. Zero chance he is traded within the division. Below zero, if that is even possible. I hope you are right that they get a big package back for him. I fear they won't, though.
  19. Jordan Love seems kinda boring. Not a lot of personality so far. Not controversial. Sounds good to me.
  20. Adams is a free agent. But you would think that they almost have to franchise him so they can trade him. You can't let arguably the top WR in the NFL walk for nothing.
  21. That may be the case, but now it may be that Gute and company don't really care what Rodgers wants to do even if he does want to end his career here and just move on no matter what. I dunno, tough pill to swallow right now. Rodgers was ready to move on after last season when we were one play away from the Super Bowl and had to be begged to return. Fast forward one year to this horrific debacle and he'll want to spend the rest of his career here? Absolutely not. He is done as a Packer. Plus the front office basically bent over backwards for his every whim this season, and he repaid them with a Divisional exit and a bunch of totally unneeded drama along the way. The divorce is going to likely be amicable, but there are plenty of reasons on both sides,
  22. Rodgers didn't cost them the game tonight...but IMO he didn't do nearly enough to win it, either. There have been several gut wrenching playoff losses where you could say the exact same thing now. He led an offense that put up 3 points in basically 57 minutes. That ended up being extremely costly.
  23. For how different personality-wise Favre and Rodgers are, it is almost eerie how similar their Packers careers are ending. Get ready for an offseason of drama, culminating in Rodgers being dealt for what will probably be an underwhelming, disappointing return for many Packer fans.
  24. No touchdowns given up? What do they gotta do? Lots of blame to go around, but none on the defensive side tonight. Too bad a bunch of those guys on defense are likely gone next year. Lowry, Campbell, the Smiths, Douglas and maybe even Amos won't be back. Salary cap purgatory coming up.
  25. No touchdowns given up? What do they gotta do? Yeah, defense was the only reason they weren't embarrassed. I take that back. They were embarrassed. But having your defense only give up 6 points is going to get you a win probably 99% of the time.
