  1. Yea, don't like the chances of the Brewers getting through this inning without the Cubs scoring..
  2. Honestly I would try to go Albers or Knebel here and then Hader for the 8th and 9th.. Want Hader to face Bryant and Rizzo their next time up.
  3. I swear the Cubs must have 50 doink infield hits against the Brewers this year.
  4. Santana is 0-10 career against Quintana...I imagine that factors in. Santana has also been awful against all lefties.. .367 OPS against LHP this year.
  5. I'm glad Hendricks is not pitching this series, the Crew can never hit him. Of course they never hit Quintana either, so I'm predicting something like a 3-1 loss tonight. I usually don't agree with the confidence thing, but another awful series against the Cubs and the media will never stop bringing it up and it will be hard for the guys not to think about.
  6. This was my thought as well. Not meaning to knock Stearns either, because I think he's been awesome. That trade with the Astros, though, was highway robbery.
  7. Does that get Sogard's AVG over .100? Must be worth 2 more starts this weekend and a roster spot up here for another month!
  8. I don't like the Arcia for Sogard move one bit. This team has thrived on pitching and defense, yet they send down their best defensive player at the most important position. I think it's unnecessary. Sogard offers the same poor offense with less upside, and worse defense. If they think it's absolutely necessary to send Arcia down then bring Orf up. You have Saladino for SS, Perez to back him up. Villar or Orf can play SS in an emergency situation. I don't want to hear the 40 man excuse, either. Sogard has no business being on the 40 man anyways. Can't wait for a couple Sogard starts this weekend!
  9. Braun turned 34 in November. I'm not sure when the "steroid era" ended, but ESPN's sort engine goes back to 2000. from 2000-2010, there were 40-some players a year that were 34 or older, getting 300+ PA/year. Since 2011, there are 20-some guys per year who are 34 or older getting 300+ PA/year, and only around 10 of them post a WAR of 2 or greater. Whenever a team signs a player to a contract into their mid-30's, they are betting against the odds. It's not a matter of if, but when the player will hit the wall. Braun has been pretty much untradeable for a while now, so all we can do is hope that he can stay reasonably productive for as long as possible. Oh, and we can stop signing players to big contracts that take them into their mid-30's. Really interesting numbers, there. It also makes me cringe thinking about paying Cain (who I love) from 2020-2022..
  10. I agree that Orf is nothing special, but I think he's capable of something like a .700 OPS, which sadly would be a significant upgrade in the bottom of the lineup. He's also a guy who takes walks which this lineup also could use. His defense is solid and he can play a number of other positions if it's needed. A Villar and Orf platoon at 2nd seems so obvious, I can't believe they haven't done it yet.
  11. And I can't believe he's starting tonight and BATTING 6TH! Yikes, what the heck is Counsell doing?? How much does he hate Villar?
  12. This is awful. Demote Sogard to bring up an even worse Sogard. Also, it's obvious their "plan" is to "get Sogard going again." Which means Sogard will put up some decent numbers for a week or two because he's playing in Colorado Springs, and he'll be right back up. Just frustrates the crap out of me. There is no way they can believe this move is giving the team the best opportunity to win. If they really do believe that, I'm concerned.
  13. Sogard has to go. Counsell gave him his last shot with 3 starts this past weekend and he went 0 for whatever- time to move on. Releasing Sogard and bringing up Orf would be a good move, IMO. Orf deserves a shot and him being RH, you can platoon him with Villar who has been good against RH's this year. Getting rid of Sogard also means Arcia is truly the EVERYDAY SS. He should only be sitting a couple times a month when he needs a day off. He's a stud defensively and should be given every opportunity to figure it out offensively. It's hard for him to do when he's sitting 3 times a week because CC needs to give Sogard at bats! Perez or Villar can play SS on the few days Arcia needs a rest. If a month goes by and you still aren't seeing improved production from 2B/SS then you need to look at bringing someone in from outside the org. I would also be on board with a Bandy for Nottingham swap as well.
  14. Pretty accurate. Problem is, it's not really surprising. Shaw, Santana, and Pina were all pretty easy bets to regress some from last year. Sogard was a 100% guarantee to regress from last year. Braun is not surprising because he's getting older and never healthy. Villar isn't much better than last year. Perez and Arcia have never been good hitters but they went from not good to horrid so far this season. Just imagine how pathetic it would be without Cain and Yelich.
  15. Every game, half of the Brewers lineup is Villar, Pina/Bandy, Arcia and a pitcher. When anyone of those guys sit it's even worse plugging in Perez or Sogard. The top of the order is OK. Yelich and Cain are the best hitters but they aren't huge power guys. Braun is rarely healthy and when he is, he's not what he used to be. Shaw and Santana are solid hitters but they most likely both had their career years last season, which very well could end up outliers in their careers. Throw it all together and this is the offense you get.
  16. Corresponding move? Thinking either Woodruff/Williams to AAA and someone else DFA/traded, or Drake DFA/traded. A DFA of Drake or Sogard will do.
  17. Questionable defense is a bit generous. Embarrassing play all the way around today outside of Guerra and Cain. And what is Counsell thinking bringing Drake in against the Cubs in a one run game??
  18. The difference between the Brewers bottom of the lineup compared to the Cubs, is staggering. Perez, Villar, Pina, Arcia, pitcher.. Yikes!
  19. As good as Stearns is, and I think he is.. It amazes me he fell into the trap of resigning Sogard to a major league deal after last year. He had a crazy couple week run that was as flukey as flukey gets. He has no business being on a major league roster. No offense to the guy, but he just doesn't.
  20. It's just baffling to me that Stearns and Counsell could honestly believe it was a good idea to keep Suter in the rotation and start this game. Decisions like that just annoy the crap out of me.
  21. Yep. You can count on Scooter hitting multiple bombs that series and Billy Hamilton somehow having multi hit games and squeaking out a HR. Plus some no name scrub pitcher will shut out the Brewers one of the games.
  22. I think Stearns is pretty good but I can't believe he was fooled into resigning Sogard. His season last year was the flukiest of all flukes. Terrible move to sign him to a Major League contract.
