  1. I know Hamilton's numbers suck but I only watch him when he's the playing Brewers, and he looks like a freaking superstar against us.
  2. Woodruff has been bounced back and forth over two seasons, while Freddy has been given a game every 5 days. And after tonight's stinker, their stats are going to look pretty dang similar. I will admit I find it really weird how they have handled their top SP prospects this year. Peralta gets an extended shot in the rotation, Burnes can only pitch in the bullpen, and Woodruff gets shuttled back and forth between AAA and the MLB, and between the bullpen/rotation with no real, extended chance. What makes it even more of a head scratcher is that Peralta is probably the least polished of all of them, and has more of bullpen makeup than the other two given his history of control issues.
  3. I'm not completely sure about that (Gausman). We were going to non-tender Villar even if he does have a decent 1.5 years of putting up empty stats for Baltimore. Phillips is completely lost at the plate, Ortiz can't strike out more than 8 batters per 9 in AA and supposedly has a live arm, Lopez is just a guy. Carmona is the lotto ticket. The O's got 2 or 3 lotto tickets for Gausman as well as an MLB caliber reliever that truly does throw gas and strike out a lot of MLB hitters. We could back and forth on which group is actually better all day. That's not the point, the point is both of those guys- Gausman and Hamels- were had for packages that could've easily been beaten by the Brewers without selling the farm, AKA not having to give up Burnes or Hiura. Stearns decided to roll with the starting rotation he had, which ultimately has been a mistake to date. It's not just those 2 guys either- Happ, Lynn, Fiers, and yes even Harvey would've helped as well. Stearns decided to use resources instead for a 3rd baseman when he already had a 3rd baseman, and a 2nd baseman who has really struggled. To date, it looks like he played it wrong. That's all I'm saying. I don't know why people have to rush to Stearn's defense on this and act like he made the right moves, or he couldn't have possibly beaten other offers. Or he had no reason to anticipate they might need some rotation help. I still like Stearns and hope like heck these moves end up coming through. Who knows, maybe Schoop goes on an absolute tear the rest of the year, Shaw can suddenly play 2nd base, and Davies comes back and pitches like he did at the end of last year and Stearns looks like a genius. As of now, though, the deadline moves do not look good.
  4. Just because the guys traded were minor leaguers doesn't mean they are prospects. The "prospects" the Cubs gave up for Hamels were a whole lot of nothing. The "prospects" given up by the Braves for Gausman were not top prospects by any stretch. The collective talent we gave up for Moose, Schoop, and Soria is better than the combined prospects dealt in the Gausman and Hamels trades.
  5. Chris Archer says hi. After seeing the price the Pirates paid for Archer, I haven't seen many fans saying that Stearns should've beaten that offer. Gausman and Hamels both went pretty cheap, that's the difference.
  6. Hey Brewers, see how important it is to continue tacking on runs after you score 4 in the 1st inning???
  7. I hate to say it, but as of now the deadline was completely botched. The offensive production from the 2nd base position has actually gotten WORSE since the deadline. Shaw has a .648 OPS while play 2nd base and Schoop .542. Obviously the defense has been much worse as well. Add in the fact all the talent we gave up for those trades and ignoring the rotation questions (ERA over 5.00 since the deadline BTW).... Puke.
  8. To be fair, the first base runner got on because we're playing Travis Shaw at freaking 2nd base..
  9. Yelich is a stud. On another note, Aguilar has seen a number of fastballs over the middle of the plate tonight and done a whole lot of nothing with them.
  10. Maybe not, but neither is that guy Villarsogardsaladinoperezschooporf. Don't disagree. The fact that they didn't just give up scraps for Dozier still makes me scratch my head..
  11. I agree with this. At this point, I expect the playoffs. If they end up missing a WC spot this season, I will consider it a failure. It may seem harsh, but they traded 3-4 of their top 10 prospects for rentals. If you miss the playoffs after that, it is a failure (especially for a small market team). Not to mention it would come after leading the NL for half the season. Yes, yes I understand the rentals could be back but Moose is gone, Soria is probably 50/50, and Schoop probably will be back- but I'm not sure he should be. I'm also not as confident for the next few years as everyone else because the NL is only going to get stronger. The Cubs are still loaded with young ML talent and are going nowhere, the Cardinals will be there, Pirates and Reds are not far off, Braves are going to be loaded, LAD will be back, Phillies/Dbacks/Rockies will all be there again next year, Padres are loaded in the minors, etc. etc. I'm also starting to get a little less confident with the system's talent as a whole. There is depth, but it's depth of marginal/average players. Our top 2 prospects at this point are Hiura and Ray. Everyone on here seems to peg Hiura as a sure thing. I think he'll be a good player, but not sure he's ever a star. It's still not a sure thing that he can stick at 2nd base and for all the talk of him mashing, he has a collective .815 OPS in the minors this season. Good sure, but he's not dominating the way people act like he is. He is advanced for his level, though. It was nice to see Ray finally put together a solid season, but he still has a lot of questions as well. The HRs and SBs are nice but he still K's a third of his ABs and has 3 times more K's than BBs. The offseason will be interesting. They are backloaded at some positions so will probably need to move guys, but guys they will want to move aren't going to bring back much. As someone mentioned earlier, you can move Thames or Santana but I'm not sure they have much value. Same with the pitching depth. You can try to move a Guerra or Suter, or even Davies/Woodruff, but they probably don't bring much back either. I would look into moving Aguilar personally because I don't see him repeating 2018, but I'm sure other teams are skeptical as well.
  12. Holy crap, Albers. I hope they can end it here because I don't like our chances if this continues with what's left in the pen..
  13. I'm sorry, but that was just quality hitting. Breaking ball low and away and he just waited back and went with it, poking it into RF. Some of these AB's have been night and day between Brewers and Pirates. All of these Pirates have been tough outs all night.
