  1. I wasn’t really trying to defend Hiura. He wasn’t good in 2020 and has been historically terrible this year. Changes are needed and I personally think he should probably go back down to AAA to work on his swing. I just thought your statement about him not being able to hit anything faster than 92 and calling him a bust already was off base.
  2. Was he only hitting pitches less than 92 mph back in 2019?
  3. Exactly, I’m not sure why the Packers have a responsibility to talk with anybody outside management about their draft board/possible strategy. Why increase the possibility that something gets out? [sarcasm]Hey, it's not like stuff from Rodgers' camp ends up finding its way to the media....[/sarcasm] Does that really need to be in blue?
  4. Meh. Or the employee should act like an employee and let those whose job it is to make draft selections do so. Exactly, I’m not sure why the Packers have a responsibility to talk with anybody outside management about their draft board/possible strategy. Why increase the possibility that something gets out?
  5. Since trwi7 references plate appearances, I’m guessing he’s referring to just offense derived WAR.
  6. Where do you see this number? I guess it's not too hard to believe but from 2017-2021 Arcia had over 2 WAR. Were the backups really worth that much negative WAR during that time? Even using fWAR Arcia was worth over 1 WAR. Is that Arcia’s total WAR including defense?
  7. Good throw by Adames and they get him at home. Wouldn’t have made a difference with Profar’s hit and Kim on 2nd after the steal.
  8. You’re still banging this drum? He's making a point, which proves to be true OFTEN! But not nearly as often as a player with a good game playing the next day.
  9. Or you just choose to ignore the times where the player plays after a big game. After you complained about this back on 5/9, I provided you with some data based on using 2 hits a game (because you were complaining about Huira being benched after having two hits) after you wouldn’t show how many times a player had a big game and started the next day. LINK At that point in time, there were 43 ‘big games’ and the player didn’t start the next game 11 times and that included Yelich going back to the DL after his 1 game return. Players will have off days after having a good game, especially with a team like the Brewers who like to use analytics and platoons, but they play far more frequently after a big game than not and you continuously ignore it to complain. Really? 2 hits isn’t a big game. The only reason I gave that example at the time was because Hiura was playing worth crap and then when the young guy starts smoking the ball 3 times at Wrigley and had 2 hits out of it, he rode the bench. You deciding to take it upon yourself as two hits as some massive game where the player needs to play the next game was on yourself. Also, yes if the team has 3 hits in a game and one player had 2 of them, he probably should be in the lineup the next day. That doesn’t mean it’s some huge game. It means play the productive bat and quit yanking players around. People can say that all the players buy into platoons and this philosophy and whatnot. The numbers don’t back that up. I picked that because you called it a big game for Huira and I asked you to point out all the times the Brewers started a player after a big game vs not and wouldn’t go back and look. But go ahead and define a big game, I guarantee that they play more often afterwards than not.
  10. That is all fine. RollieTime repeatedly argues that Counsell always benches a player after a good game when it has been shown to not be true. I don’t have an issue with Robertson not playing today. It’s just funny how this is what happens frequently. I do find it funny how you mention I’m still beating that drum, says that it’s not true about Counsell benching guys frequently, but the drum continues to be beat because well, it’s happening quite a bit and continues to happen. Otherwise I wouldn’t beat that drum. I’m sorry, but Shaw isn’t the future and has done 0 to warrant more playing time. He is 1/22 recently prior to today. Shaw won’t be on the roster next year and instead of letting the young guy play after some success and building his confidence moving forward the next half decade, we let him ride the pine after a good game. But here we are. Or you just choose to ignore the times where the player plays after a big game. 11. You’re still banging this drum? I also wonder why Urias isn't in the lineup considering his stats over the past week, as mentioned earlier in the thread, are pretty solid and him and Shaw have almost the same statline vs RHP, negating the lefty/righty matchup. Not sure I'll ever find myself arguing for more Robertson though That is all fine. RollieTime repeatedly argues that Counsell always benches a player after a good game when it has been shown to not be true.
  12. Maybe if he doesn't screw around bouncing the ball, etc., and just shoots he might have more success at the line. His present routine isn't seem to be working. (Perhaps he is over-thinking this. He can't be any worse.) If he could shoot 65% that game most likely doesn't go into in OT. Well his season average is higher (68.5%) than that. He had a poor free throw shooting game but he was below normal for pretty much everything yesterday… it happens, players have bad games. Post All-Star game - so 26 games this year - he’s shooting 72.5% from the line. I think pretty much everybody would take that from him, so the way he does it can work just fine.
  13. There is a time and place to call him for 10 seconds. It isn’t when he gets the free throw off just a touch after 10 seconds after a lane violation occurs.
  14. I wish they would change it so that the New York office wouldn’t know what the call was. Cut the video feed before the ump makes the call. Forget the “call on the field has precedence” garbage. That isn’t a bad idea. If the replay ump decides the angles are inconclusive, call on the field stands. Of course, for the Brewers we need to find a way for them to blur out the jerseys as well.
  15. you may be right on it being worse than running in OF, etc, I don't know. However, just doing one of two rather than both is obviously less stressful than doing both right away. Wasn’t Yelich quoted as saying that swinging the bat didn’t bother him but the issue was the bending over and movement that way?
  16. He hasn’t been good so far this season, but of all nights tonight probably isn’t the one to get extra down on him. He made a nice play to catch a line drive earlier, and has absolutely scolded three balls tonight. Those baseballs better start behaving.
  17. I think a reasonable option regarding the shift would be to require the infielders to have their feet on the dirt. That way you can still shift but I think it would reduce the effectiveness of it a bit - at least against lefties.
  18. That's not their career strikeout rates, check the links I posted for their actual numbers. Strikeout rate is K/PA, not K/AB. I know how strikeout rates are determined, but I prefer strikeouts per at bats myself as well. Why? Why remove the times a player reached base without a hit (and sacrifices) when calculating their strikeout rate? What benefit does that have?
  19. I think this would be terrible. If you can’t even step off when a runner is on base, they could just take off the moment the pitcher touches the rubber - it would essentially make every single a double. I don’t like limiting the pitchers ability to control the running game with limits on pick off attempts in general
  20. Unfortunately that doesn’t happen too often with this offense. It’s just disappointing when there’s one bright spot and they ride the pine after a good game or two. Garcia was 0-1 against Alcantara for his career so there’s not much to go off of there. Oh well. There will certainly be more confusing moves like this. Much needed off day tomorrow for this group. Looking forward to them getting healthy this week. I'd argue there are plenty of times where a player has a good game and plays the next game, joking about our offense aside. It just doesn't fit the narrative, so it is ignored. I'm bored tonight, so I took a look at a handful of our players and we'll see how many times they had a "big game" and played or didn't play the next day. I'm arbitrarily using 2 hits based so we can include your example of Huira. Narvaez: 7 Big Games (4/1, 4/5, 4/6, 4/10, 4/20, 4/21, 4/25); Didn't start game after in 4 of 7. Huira: 2 Big Games (4/10, 4/24); Didn't start game after in 1 of 2 Wong: 6 Big Games (4/23, 4/24, 4/25, 4/26, 5/4, 5/8); Didn't start game after on 0 of 6. Urias: 3 Big Games (4/28, 5/1, 5/7); Didn't start game after in 0 of 3. Shaw: 5 Big Games (4/1, 4/8, 4/14, 5/1, 5/4); Didn't start game after in 1 of 5. McKinney: 2 Big Games (4/12, 4/17); Didn't start game after in 1 of 2. Bradley, Jr: 2 Big Games (4/17, 4/18); Didn't start game after in 0 of 2. Garcia: 8 Big Games (4/1, 4/10, 4/11, 4/18, 5/1, 5/2, 5/5, 5/8); Didn't start game after in 3 of 8. Vogelbach - 3 Big Games (4/18, 4/20, 5/4); Didn't start game after in 1 of 3. Cain - 1 Big Game (4/7); Didn't start game after in 0 of 1. Yelich - 4 Big Games (4/1, 4/7, 4/10, 5/3); Didn't start game after in 1 of 4 (went on IL on 5/4). By my count, there have been 43 "Big Games" by these 11 players and they didn't start the next game a total of 12 times (including Yelich on 5/3 where he went to the IL the next day).
  21. Just a heads up, the Brewers won the game. That’s completely not the point here at all. The offense struggles to score and players that do well end up finding the bench the next game. That’s like winning a game 10-9 and Yardley gave up 4 runs in the 9th to make it a game and Hader had to come in to finish it out. Can’t say a bad word about Yardley and criticize the performance because we still won. Nottingham was benched after his 2 home run game recently. Hiura had a 2-4 game and smoked the ball 3 times (I believe at Wrigley) and was benched the next game. For being a critical cog in your lineup, a young bat that’s been struggling, and he is benched the day after he’s locked in is asinine. That’s just a couple random ones I can think of currently. It’s bad managing when you remove a hot bat from the lineup intentionally. If he played 15 days in a row, sure. But he just had an off day a couple days earlier too. The Brewers also have an off day tomorrow for him to rest. Now do all the times that a player has a big game and is in the lineup the next day. We also don’t know if there is something that was nagging any of these players a bit, if there is something about the starting pitcher match up they don’t like or myriad other reasons that they are out of the lineup. No matter how much people like to complain about it, I don’t think Counsell is looking at a player having a big game and saying - gotta bench him tomorrow so he cools off.
  22. He's been hitting against live pitching (batting practice, but going full speed) all spring and hitting well. He said there has been an adjustment, but he's at least going to give it a shot. More power to him if he makes it back. I think more so than depth perception, hitting is timing. If you pick up the spin on the ball, you know if it's a curve or a fastball. Or just guess, which is what a lot of hitters do. There was an ESPN article from February about Drew Robinson (LINK) that goes into detail about what lead to his suicide attempt and the aftermath which includes his return to the diamond. It is a pretty tough read and I’m glad to see he wants to help people who are struggling with mental health like he did and to reduce the stigma of getting help if you need it. Within the article they touch on the question about depth perception:
  23. These umps are literally making up stuff as they go. There’s not even words to say anymore for things. It’s sad to see umps trying to take over games like this and seemingly deliberately making incorrect calls. These calls recently don’t even make sense. You basically can’t even play the game of baseball anymore because running from first to second base isn’t allowed Annoys me when the umpire just walks away and refuses to look down at the ground and see how wrong he was. Just look down, see where he stepped and change the call. It was brutal because the evidence was literally right there, no need to even see a video. Was there an explanation after the game on this one?
