  1. Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Don't division tiebreakers take precedence over conference tiebreakers? A tie should give Seattle the division by virtue of better head to head record. Pretty simple, the 49ers would be 12-3-1 and Seattle would be 11-4-1 Well that makes perfect sense. I probably should have done some simple “homework” and looked at their records. Whoops.
  2. I’m sure it has to do with strength of victory tiebreaker or something weird, but I was surprised the 49ers clinch the division with a tie. I would have figured that 1-0-1 would favor the team that actually won a head-to-head game instead of going to other tiebreakers.
  3. I'm sure they are indeed melting down in New England over it. I don't know what that has to do with us. I'm glad we pulled it off, obviously. They're clearly a very weak high seed in historical terms. There's nothing wrong with discussing that. I'm glad they have the opportunity that they have in front of them anyway and if they find a way to put it together and make a run I'll be happy to be first in line to admit I was wrong. I don’t think there were many people making those claims that were looking for a discussion about being a historically weak high seeded team. It seemed that most were pretty well entrenched on the thought that they are the worst ever and have been stating stuff like that for weeks.
  4. How big of a meltdown would there be here if the Packers had lost at HOME to the Dolphins today like the Patriots did? I get that we struggled on the road against the Lions but we’ve always seem to have issues there going back to the Silverdome (could be longer but my fan memory only encompasses the Silverdome and Ford Field) but still managed to pull out the W. We won and still have comments about being the worst 13-3/1 seed/2 seed ever.
  5. During the week leading up to the Vikings game, they scrolled a stat on the bottom line that Rodgers has the 2nd highest passer rating on deep balls this year.
  6. And my position is that all 3 of those teams are basically on the same tier and none would have given LSU a competitive game. Oklahoma did deserve the 4 seed over the others based on a 1 loss season and winning a Power 5 conference. But how much of that is due to LSU being exceptional this year vs it being some indictment of the playoffs? The 4 seed has won two titles with this set up, so there are (and will be) years where they will be more than competitive with the top seed.
  7. Or it is just one of those years where there is a dominant team? Even if they expand the field to 6 or 8, there will be years where there is one dominate team and it isn’t as exciting or a surprise. But I think most years you’d see more competitive games than blowouts. Most years even the great teams have a game where they make some plays and pull out a win where they could have lost to lesser teams than they’ll see in an expanded playoffs.
  8. It would be better to be a better team. If there is payroll flexibility at mid-season, that is great. However we have repeatedly seen the Brewers have to overuse their top pitchers in the 1st Half of a season which effects their performance at the end of the season. Personally I think Ryu would have been a great roll of the dice. I think the Brewers need more TOR pitching. It seems to me that there is a bigger chance of the Brewers being not quite good enough to be a legit World Series contender than we are in danger of overdoing it with payroll. Thankfully we have David Stearns at the helm. He still might be able to craft a team that can win it all. He’s shown the ability to get the Brewers a superstar or two and make lemonade out of the lemons he’s limited to in payroll. Well, good news then. The off-season isn’t over and it is conceivable that the Brewers are as good or a better team already than last year AND we have a chance to keep adding to it since there are still players available thru FA or trade. My response that you quoted was about somebody saying it is gross that they are going into the year with a lower payroll when we’ve made it to the playoffs in back to back years. A lower payroll doesn’t always mean a worse team just like a higher payroll doesn’t guarantee the playoffs or World Series. They could still add some quality players and come in under last years payroll, would that still be gross? For the record, I wanted Ryu as well but I’m not sure it would have been wise to pay a pitcher $20m per year when he’s averaged around 20 starts the last two years.
  9. I don’t understand this type of feeling/thought process. If the Brewers go out and get another FA or two or make a trade to bring in players who improve the team, but still have a lower payroll while projecting to have the same or better quality of team (I think somebody posted a tweet that shows they already have the same projected fWAR next year as they had last year for less). How is that gross? Wouldn’t it be better to have the same or better team for less allowing us to take on a contract at mid-season if we need to to improve the team? Why is payroll flexibility gross?
  10. Middleton is averaging 23.4 points per 36 minutes which ranks 24th in the NBA (per Basketball-Reference). I’ll be honest in saying I don’t follow money/contracts in the NBA so I’m not really sure how it compares, but I think some are looking at his 18ppg and not factoring in how much rest the Bucks are able to give their players in game due to blowing teams out.
  11. You keep saying that with little to back it up. Even Stearns’ comments indicate he’s treating a lot of the signings so far as improving the margins. Did you see them signing Cain to his contract 2 years ago? Or spending $18m on Grandal last year? Stearns has shown he’s willing to spend some money if he feels there is value to it, so I don’t see why this year would be any different.
  12. No chance. Somehow that's become the narrative around here. CC likes to play a scrappy AAAA a lot. Not sure where that came from, but there's no evidence of this. 2019 - Spangenberg 2018 - Saladino, Sogard, Brad Miller 2017 - Sogard (who was absolutely terrible after his first week or so), Nick Franklin 2016 - Nieuwenhuis 2015 - Elian Herrera Of course, there's his general love affair with Hernan Perez. Do other teams not play players of similar quality? Most of the guys on your list had more PAs with other teams the year before or after their year with the Brewers with the exceptions being Nieuwenhuis and Herrera but the 2015/2016 teams weren’t exactly loaded with quality players. I think that contradicts the narrative the Counsell likes to play the scrappy AAAA player a lot when he’s playing them less than other teams. Also, one minor quibble (and this comes from somebody who wasn’t a fan of him as a player) Sogard wasn’t terrible outside of his first few weeks. Yes he came out scorching hot but he put up an OPS of .824 in June and .773 in August (yes in a limited sample). Not saying he wasn’t terrible the other months (wasn’t he hurt as well?). I was also surprised to see he put up an .810 OPS last year in over 440 PAs.
  13. Yeah, we got the joke. C'mon, you have to admit, it is a 100% spot on analogy. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. So Cain, Grandal, Moustakas and Garcia are all shopping at Walmart level FA signings?
  14. Reds starters 2019: 4.12 ERA (92 ERA-) Brewers starters 2019: 4.40 ERA (99 ERA-) Reds wins 2019: 75 Brewers wins 2019: 89 Somehow Stearns & company won 14 more games than the Reds last year even though their rotation was 7% worse by ERA. I'd say the bad look is trying to find the negative in every transaction Stearns & company do or don't make when they clearly know more than we do & have the track record of success to prove it. Disagree but do you. Anyone arguing that the Brewers rotation as it stands today is looking better than the Reds should switch to football takes. Was anybody arguing the Brewers rotation, as it stands today, is better than the Reds? I’ve seen people argue the Brewers team was better last year even if the Reds starters had better stats or that they won’t believe the Reds are a better team overall until it happens.
  15. Looks like 2021 is $10.5m and the option becomes a mutual option with either 550 ABs in 2021 or a combined 1050 both years.
  16. Nice try, but you guys would all be puffing out your chests saying you were "right" if they signed a FA to a ONE year deal at a higher AAV. I mean that's too easy, they did that last year. In fact, it seems like they like to live in "one year" deal world. I mean in the last three years, how many FA's have they signed to multiple years(3 or more years.. option years don't count)?? Cain, Thames and Lindblom now?? That's it?? In the last three years?? Ironically, 2 of them have come from the Korean league. You 100% moved the goalposts and I’m not sure how you can even argue that you didn’t. You originally said (and I quote) “I'm willing to bet a VERY large sum of money this is their "big" FA signing for the year, in terms of AAV.” And after Peavey commented you came back and changed the parameters with not a 1 year deal, has to be a higher AAV every year (which makes even less sense because, you know, AAV is like an average, man), etc. You are absolutely correct that the Brewers could sign another free agent to a higher AAV contract this year either on a one year deal or multi year deal... both would have you losing a large sum of money based on your original parameters no matter how much you move the goalposts now.
  17. If that had been reversed...
  18. You think Trubisky can lead a 95 yard touchdown drive? Against the Packers defense? heck yes. You guys give Trubisky too much credit.
  19. How often do they pick up a flag for offensive holding? And it got the Bears a chance to get a play off before the 2 minute warning.
  20. He hasn’t looked good on a few of those today.
  21. Or a 9ers team that had to hold on against the Cardinals on the road and needed 19 4th quarter points at home?
  22. Did you forget to use blue font? Because it should be. I’m betting he’s serious, and he probably should be. This team is far better than the fan base seems to think it is, for some reason. I think too often fans overrate teams they don’t watch every week and ignore their faults. Reading this board at times, the Packers are worse than the 9ers, Saints, Seahawks, and Vikings. Those teams all have flaws too.
  23. No, he's a fan pitching target: recognizable name who WAS good but probably won't be going forward. No, he’s a pitcher who was hurt last year but was elite for years before then and is affordable. Unless his health is worse than is publicly known, or the Brewers actually sign a good pitcher, this was a missed opportunity. They have plenty of money and could use a top starter Based on the return, doesn’t this option seem likely?
  24. A lower payroll? It seems like that but it gives us a chance to add significantly at the deadline by taking on contracts. A significantly lower payroll? I don’t know how anybody can say that with certainty. Still plenty of offseason left and time to add players - not to mention we’ve got 5 spots on the 40 man to fill still and players on there we could get rid of without hesitation. Did you see them signing Cain to his contract 2 years ago? What about Grandal last year?
