  2. I know that Ron Santo isn't going into the Hall as a broadcaster, but I think many here are a little unfair to him. He's a color guy, not a play-by-play guy, after all. And yeah, he is a homer, but I know that I LOVE when the color guy bleeds with the fans. Take Larry McCarren, on Packers broadcasts, for instance. (i know he's much better than ron) The emotion they display is nice, unlike some gun-for-hire, who you know is insincere. I agree about enjoying the emotion that somebody close to the organization will show, my issue with Santo is his complete bias and inablility to see that the world isn't against the Cubs. I was listening to a game in late September, I believe, when the Cubs were playing the Marlins and somebody got doubled off first. Santo was screaming about how horrible of a call that was, that the umps were trying to cheat the Cubs out of the playoffs, etc. Then Pat calmly says, if you watch the replay he was clearly out. Santo does this kind of thing all the time.
  3. I liked the coach insite that Davey tried to add, his problem was that he would stumble over words and looked as if he was lost most of the time. I think the speed of being a broadcaster would take time to adjust to and that for his first year in the booth he did alright. I would like to see what he can do when he gets more comfortable, if he isn't getting any better then I'd say it would be time to move on. On a side note, I was listening to the end of the Bears game on Sunday after I was done golfing to see how much they were losing by and noticed how we are just spoiled in Wisconsin with our play-by-play guys. While Bill is alright, I think he improved with Anderson along side and with Bob and Jim, Lepay and Lucas we are really spoiled. If only McGee and Irwin were still doing the Packers, but Larrivee and McCarren work well together and I think Larrivee has a smooth voice.
  4. Does anybody have any factual basis for this theory? Other than the fact that Leyva had experience as a manager and was fired after one season... How does that make Ned insecure? Not to mention, why would he be willing to hire Leyva in the first place if he is so worried about a coach having experience as a manager? Ned said he and Nick were on different wave-lengths. Does that mean he wasn't agressive enough, wore pink shirts or has a Jeff Gordon tattoo? We don't know... but it doesn't matter because Ned is in charge and made the decision and obviously Melvin and Attanasio agree with it. Ned should be out there trying to find the best coach to help our team win; just as he felt Leyva wasn't the right man for the job.
  5. Since when did playing ability translate into coaching ability? Some of the games greatest (all of sports, not just baseball) have tried their hands at coaching afterwards and they didn't have it. Rod Carew, one of the best all time hitters, was a horrible hitting coach. Bart Starr was a really bad football coach. What are your opinions of Mike Maddux? You think he is a good pitching coach? Because he was at best an average player in his day. Why you think the Brewers players wouldn't repsect the man is beyond me, especially the younger guys who have worked with him before... I assume they'd be more comfortable and more willing to listen. I highly doubt they would even begin to question him because he ONLY hit .233 and ONLY scored 213 runs.
  6. Yea, next week on TLC there is gonna be a special edition of Flip that House, featuring Mark and the Brewers... Flip that Franchise! Were his investments worth it? Will he see return on his dollar? Tune in at 9/8c on Saturday to find out!
  7. I'm pretty sure Braun said somewhere (maybe the quick little SI article) that he wasn't overly religious and gave off the impression, atleast to me, that he wouldn't miss a game for that reason. Not that he would be unprofessional for doing so, even during a playoff run. I also believe that Green did skip a game for a holiday when he played with the Dodgers.
  8. I'm pretty sure he was talking about who they face the rest of the season as the Cubs play in FL the 25th-27th, not who they'll sign in the offseason.
  9. ryne, wat yo go.. bifger *+@ thn nost... connosr ifts good to hear from ooyou agin.... hope prtmald is good... grat dane/lukys/bf.net sotball furls.... we'kk do you proud...o edt - rleayl dint peamn to swera why dose yuku not le=te me oyt spaces ub my post? seeems likes somethin that wiyld be good... not fiar

  13. Thompson did shake his hand and look at his fingers even before LaRussa took a step out of the dugout. Then LaRussa came out and went back in and the trainer was the first to get there. He looks like he coulda done something to one of his fingers or hand.
  14. So if we had won just one more game in 2005 you'd consider Yost a different manager and give him the credit he deserves?
  15. http://www.insomniacink.com/Shirt%20Pictures/bCurse.jpg This also happens to be one of my favorite shirts from Insomniac Ink...
  16. Might as well keep it where it is as long as it keeps working, sCrUBS are 0-2 since its conception... C'mon black magic!
  17. If we were talking about somebody who was our closer or main set-up man then I think you'd have a point. However, we are talking about the man who may be the last guy in the pen. Not to mention, have you looked at bullpens of other teams in contention and see who they have as their last man in the pen? No team has a lights out stopper as the 12th or 13th man in the pen. Are you truly saying that you would have been happier had he gave up a grand slam or a bases clearing double? I have a feeling you'd be up in arms over that. While the walk wasn't ideal, he still only allowed 1 run when coming in with the bases loaded. That is pretty good. I'm not trying to say I love Spurling or I think he is great... he is what he is, the 25th man on our team and he still manages to contribute.
  18. If you look at the schedule between now and our series with the Cubs at the end of August, other than our series with Colorado right out of the break (Cubs play Houston) we alternate teams. So, for the next 2 months whoever we play will play the Cubs next and vise versa. Since we play the same teams it should be sort of hard for us to pull away but also hard for the Cubs to gain too much on us. The only wild card in all of this is which team is stuck with seeing the better pitching. If one team is able to avoid the top starters, while the other team is facing the ace every series, one might be able to gain ground or pull away.
  19. I'd love for them to bring the mug back, but I know the Brewers have talked about how if they did they would need to remove too many seats in left field and they didn't want to do that. However, I do think the idea of just bringing it back as a place to take pictures would work nice. They could put it in the fairly big open space on the main concourse down the right field line. Nothing is really there (they have some games for kids to play close to there) and nobody really uses those exits as they don't lead directly to a parking lot.
  20. Maybe it is because of his .954 OPS against Peavy in his career (in 31 AB)
  21. Well, the Vampire only comes out at night...
  22. Anybody got a contact number for FSN? I know it really won't do much but I really need to give somebody a piece of my mind for the Brewers not being on TV again. Thanks in advance.
  23. Anybody know which one works better/easier the Wi-Fi USB Connector or the LAN Adapter?
  24. I don't know if anyone will call it an upset when Poo Tang beats Startup, people have been calling that since the first round. Poo Tang ain't no sleeper! :-)
