  1. Don't we just lose the pick that would originally be the Brewers? i.e. If the Yanks have the 18th pick and we have the 24th pick and we lose CC to the Yanks, and we sign a type A, we would lose the 24th pick, correct? (I'm just throwing out the draft slots, I really don't know where either of us picks and I understand that if the Yanks sign Teixeira we get their 2nd and a comp pick).
  2. Didn't Randolph make comments about only wanting to come back this year to be a manager as well as saying no to the Nationals before the Brewers job had even been filled? edit: Found this article from Newsday from the 24th: Willie Randolph turned down an opportunity to join the Washington Nationals' coaching staff, and if he doesn't get the Brewers' managing job, he'll probably sit out the 2009 season, a person familiar with the situation said. Not exactly the same but it is close and he turned it down right around when Brenly was being interviewed. It seems like he had other reasons for turning it down as the article mentions how Randolph and Acta had a "tenuous relationship." At the time BF.net was still discussing the possibilities of all 3 candidates and it was also around then that TH heard Macha's name coming up a lot.
  3. From the chat with Anderson from the other thread, second to last response: Brian Anderson: I spoke to Dale about becoming the hitting coach. He had his choice, but had a passion for hitting. He teaches hitting in the offseason and has always wanted to do that at the Major League level. He has got to be one of the hardest working coaches in the game. Good for him for choosing a role thankless job.
  4. How is this small market? Almost everybody on this site wanted Dale back, and now that he's back it's small market and bush league? In the long run it is up to the players to get the job done. Either the approach of our former hitting coaches was bunk or the hitters feel that their approach is better. Maybe the fact that they like Dale and respect him will get that done, but I got a feeling that by July (if we're struggling with the bats) people will be calling for his head because "we can't hit the ball the other way." Maybe, just maybe, its the players and not the coaches. How is him being named hitting coach lead to him being 'groomed' for the future? How many hitting coaches have gone directly to becoming a manager? If they had him as the bench coach I might buy that argument but not as the hitting coach.
  5. AJAY posted a clip earlier in the thread from the New York Post that mentions the bad interview, here is what it said about it: The perception has been that Bob Brenly is the frontrunner to become the Brewers' manager. But a person familiar with the process said Brenly's interview did not go that well and that former A's manager Ken Macha is now considered the leading candidate.
  6. Who knows if he really is looking at Randolph (as he fits the experience mold plus the "managers can be better the second-time around" quote by Melvin) or if it is just to be in compliance with the minority interview guidelines from MLB.
  7. But do we really know this? In the past Melvin has been pretty tight-lipped about decisions related to the team. How do we know he isn't doing the same thing again? Although, in all honesty, I can't really see a reason for him to be so stealthy about this choice. TH has mentioned his name at least once in a blog as he was throwing names out there. That group could include Bob Brenly, former manager in Arizona now a TV broadcaster for the Cubs; Willie Randolph, fired by the Mets during the 2008 season; Davey Johnson, who managed Team USA in the Olympics; and Mike Hargrove, who stepped down in Seattle last year citing "burn out."
  8. Because he dove into the seats in foul territory? I mean, that one play has to win him a GG for at least 3 years. But, onto Braun. I think you'll only find a handful of fans disappointed about his play in left this year. I think he had a pretty good year, played it safe most of the time and improved as the year went on. He was fortunate enough to have Mike Cameron roaming CF next to him which shrank the area Braun needed to worry about covering. He has all the tools to be a great outfielder (I personally think he might be able to handle CF in a few years) if he keeps working hard.
  9. Nobody hates Eckstein because he busts his tale to first on a ball that is in play. People hate Eckstein because he runs to first on a walk, looks like he lobs the ball to first and is like 5'3"
  10. I waited until it was official, I got seats in sec. 318 row 2 and 3 seat 3... somehow they are obstructed view (I don't understand how there can be obstructed view in the Club Seats)... 1e Corbeau is coming with me and he hopes his wife doesn't go into labor during the game. C'mon Brewers, give me a game 5
  11. Dale said in his post-game presser yesterday, and I'm just paraphrasing, that the bunt attempt by Durham was not his call and that he would have liked to see a veteran like that try and put the ball in play especially early in the game. So, that one specific example wasn't on Sveum. I'm not a fan of small ball in most situations, but I've learned that a majority of fans believe it is the safest way to get a run.
  12. If the Brewers are having Yo pitch his simulated games on starters rest doesn't it appear that they are getting him ready as a starter? Or is this a common practice when any pitcher returns from injury?
  13. The biggest problem is going to be Bob Webb. He seems pretty certain that it was a hit and according to the yahoo article he is the one who needs to reverse the call. So if that is truly the case I can't see the decision being overturned. It seems like Mr. Webb has already gone into defensive mode and I can't see him changing his mind now even if everybody else in America disagrees with his call.
  14. Al, your post is #193 (at least for me) and it is post #190 that says it is official that Escobar has been called up.
  15. That and the fact that he said LaRoche was two-thirds of the way down the baseline when CC touched the ball and if you watch the replay he isn't farther than halfway. Doesn't it seem like this situation was in question and that he should have used the replay?
  16. once again this thread is too far from the top but i really can't complain since i haven't contributed for quite some time... so my apology... i really don't know if that really works but i don't care... anyways page 3? i mean its like we don't even care anymore... or those of us who use to be frequent posters have slowed a bit but whatever the reason somebody needs to pick up the slack... i just noticed that i don't use comma's when i'm drunk and was i suppose to use an apostrophe on the word comma? i really dont know right now and i'm typing outloud so don't worry about it... we need more people to get drunk and post in this thread... it really needs to stay on the first page to save me time... good night... Brewers, Brewers, Keep Turning Up the Heat! Brewers, Brewers, Keep Turning Up the Heat! (Ya, Brewers!) Brewers, Brewers, Keep Turning Up the Heat! Brewers, Brewers, Keep Turning Up the Heat! (Ya, Brewers!)
  17. Mmmm... Peter Luger's... Expensive but awesome! Anyways, onto my little NYC advice... If you want a great burger and amazing shakes and don't mind waiting a bit if you're eating around "normal" meal times I'd head to the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park. Very tasty
  18. I'd like to throw my hat into the ring as well for the tickets... and I'd like to thank Pedro for doing all these give-aways and if I had season tickets this year I'd totally do the same (didn't have money to renew back in February)... oh well there is always next year for me to return the favor Pedro you are the man!
  19. It was in the 7th with I believe 2 outs and Piniella said something along the lines of "Get Fukudome up and ready for a double switch" as Harden was in a 3-1 count and over 100 pitches (I think around 105). He then walked the guy and Lou went out to the mound and was convinced not to take Harden out.
  20. As long as his pitch count is reasonable I would have no problem with Sheets pitching past the 6th with a 7-0 lead as it's not as much about innings as it is about pitch count in my opinion. I also would argue that Harden isn't very efficient if he's already around 100 pitches after only 6 innings.
  21. Thanks for filling us in on how our collective minds work, and the utter simplicity behind our reasoning. I'm glad you have been able to totally shield yourself from the thousands of posts dissecting and analyzing all aspects of Ned's managerial tenure, and very un-objectively (I know, I noticed the irony too) decide you know the "one reason" some people are grading him poorly. He didn't say everybody who is against Yost is that way, he said many and maybe he should have only said some. I know there are posters (FTJ for instance) who have been against Yost for years, but there are others (as some of the grading in this thread indicates) who seem unwilling to give him the least amount of credit (we have the 2nd best record in the NL and lead the Wildcard and he's still getting F's... If that is failing then boy did I get ripped off in high school). I don't agree with moves Ned makes a lot and it really is frustrating to watch (especially when you think you know the correct move) but I always try to tell myself that I don't know everything that is going on. How am I suppose to know if Riske's shoulder is a little sore or that CV needs the night off because he's jumping center for the Bucks? At the same time, when I watch other baseball games I shake my head just as much at things the other managers do. I'd grade Yost at about a B (in the 83-85% range right now) since I don't always agree with his moves but at the same time the players appear to like him, he has this team in the hunt for the Wildcard and Division, and I personally love how he handles the media... It makes me laugh
  22. I'd say that has more to do with a pure hatred for everything Yost than anything else.
  23. TH says he unsure about the blog... I just saw that mlb.com blogger from Cleveland also. He says a "major league source" says a deal might be done, then in the next sentence says "the rumor couldn't be confirmed." Don't know how much weight to put on a report like that. He posted that at 3:56p
  24. I believe that Attanasio himself has said a few times that Sheets wants to test the FA market and I know that Powell just said something along the same lines in yesterdays post-game show. I'll look around when I get a chance and see if I can find anything in print.
  25. It wasn't a hit... it was a Vlad
