  1. Give me a break. You hit it on the head, my feelings exactly.
  2. To each their own. Good for him for taking the best deal and wanting to play everyday, versus doing like some guys and taking a team friendly deal with a good team to try and be part of a WS team. Exactly. These player talk out of both sides of their mouths. The A’s ain’t winning a damn thing. Thought he wanted a ring? Comical. Enjoy the L’s. It's a 1 year deal. You think the Brewers are going to the WS? Also: It's a 1 year deal. He couldn't be traded to a contender at the deadline if he's doing well? Sure would be a good thing for him if he were getting lots and lots of playing time to make that case AND have another chance at FA next year. But I guess it's all what "have you done for me" with some fans I guess. I loathe that attitude. A lot.
  3. Enjoy being a clear starting catcher with the A's instead of being a backup here Luc.
  4. Villar goes. No brainer. Walker >>>>> Villar You could keep Villar and Sogard, and jettison Perez. His contract is not fully guaranteed as an arb guy. Sogard is better defensively and can cover most of what Perez could cover except CF, and we'll have 2 guys capable of CF on the roster(Cain/Yelich) with Villar as an emergency option. And in all fairness, I don't really care about wasting 2 million on Sogard if we sign Walker. It's highly likely someone else picks up sogard either on a waiver claim(paying his full salary) or after he is cut...in which case I believe they'd have to pay a portion. Regardless, the upgrade to walker on the roster vs sogard is well worth 2 million of wasted money. Sogard just had a career season at age 31. I'd rather keep the soon to be 27 year old run producer in Perez who's regression year last year is on par or better than what Sogard has done prior to last season. I like Sogard, I feel I'm just more prepared than most to see him as the player he has been most of his career rather than the one he was last season.
  5. OBP seems to really be a theme in FA this off season. Do you think there is an impact with hitters where they start giving up some of their power to be better on base players? Talk about a major shift in thinking if that's the case... we could be seeing throwback baseball.
  6. The ugly, now old, one was used in a lot of instances. Could not be happier to see it less. Couldn't agree more. It always got shrunk down a bunch when used and became unreadable, just a messy and unwieldy thing it was.
  7. You can go to ESPN right now and they are still using the circle logo with Brewers script there. I feel like a lot of sports websites did.
  8. I, for one, am thrilled to see him out of the NL Central and in the AL.
  9. I'm not picking on you specifically for saying this because I see this type of comment from lots of folks all over the internet, but I really wonder how much players really "work on their stuff" in the off season. Most of what I hear players actually say about what they do in the off season is some type of work out routine to either add or subtract muscle to/from certain areas of their bodies to maximize what they already do pretty well. I can't imagine a pitcher especially wants to do a ton of throwing during the off season. The idea is to rest the body, recover from the long grind of the season and come back as fresh as possible. Sure I'm certain they do some throwing but I doubt it's anything near what they do in spring training to ramp their arms back into playing form. Actually I just searched this and found this article. Basically says pitchers should do no throwing whatsoever for at least 2 months and preferably for 3 to 4 months. Which pretty much puts them at resuming bullpen sessions in February which this year is when spring training pretty much began. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sportsdoc/Offseason-throwing-suggestions-for-pitchers.html
  10. Miley with 5 Ks in 2 innings, no runs. Dare I say we've found our TOR guy?
  11. Random ideas floated by Doug Melvin via Haudricourt on twitter: On Tanking: Former #Brewers GM Doug Melvin has a great "anti-tanking" plan. On Aug. 1, after trades are made, you identify the eight teams with worst records. Over last two months, the one with most wins gets No. 1 draft pick, second-most wins gets No. 2, etc. Melvin said that would stop contending teams playing "tanking" teams down the stretch from having advantage over teams with tougher schedules. Make the worst teams actually have to win for No. 1 pick. I like it. Expanded rosters/Sept call-ups: MLB should listen to Doug Melvin. He has has great idea to avoid teams with 40 players having advantage over teams with 30 players after September call-ups. You can summon as many as you want from minors but you have to identify only 30 eligible for any game. Sounds about right. _ _ _ _ _ My thought was these are both interesting ideas and don't feel too "out there" to be immediately rejected.
  12. I'm not sure the whole Yelich/RF liability debate is worth it unless he's projected to get more than 20ish starts out there (1/8th of the season). Maybe if he got closer to 40ish starts it would start to matter. Even then I'm not convinced he's that much of a liability there that he starts to hurt the team more than he helps.
  13. The way he's worded his tweet it's a done deal. Meaning the much more believable national reporters will pick up on it quickly from their own sources. If we don't hear anything from someone more reliable within 24 hrs I call BS.
  14. Fair enough, but like I said they could always attempt an injury settlement to avoid all that bother.
  15. Could they file a grievance though, on a non-guaranteed contract? The terms of the contract would still apply and he'd be owed the 30 to 45 days termination pay, regardless of if he's healthy or injured. Either way I think the Brewers wait it out until he's healthy in a few weeks or until opening day approaches and the injury is lingering and they work out a severance deal (if that's even necessary). It doesn't really cost them anything to wait it out.
  16. That would be a very "uber-Brewers" move. And I would say something like that is very likely. I think Vogt is on a major league contract so I believe the whole opening day deadline when his contract becomes guaranteed would remain. The way I read the 10 day DL requirements was that the player first had to be on the 25 man roster. I'm not positive how that all works with spring training but I have to believe he would be protected as being on a major league deal. That's not saying they couldn't do as you suggest, just it would be a more difficult decision to cut him after opening day since they'd be on the hook for his entire salary.
  17. Reported by Tom Haudricourt and Adam McCalvy on Twitter. Below are Haudricourt posts: Brewers catcher Stephen Vogt has shoulder strain. Out 2-3 weeks. CC said hard to say now how much camp will be left when Vogt can play again. Tough break for him. _ _ _ Maybe this is a boon to those that want Lucroy signed.
  18. Thanks. Yeah clearly I love that movie. Further points of interest, probable starters: Monday: Junior Guerra Tuesday: Chase Anderson Wednesday: Zach Davies
  19. Adam McCalvy just posted this on Twitter in the last 10 minutes or so: We're expecting Ryan Braun's spring debut today, but he said he'd make a start in the outfield first. Should see him at first base for the first time on Tuesday or Wednesday.
  20. I agree with your point, but I don't think Kirk Gibson fits in with that group. He had a 5 year stretch where he was worth ~24 fWAR and 25 bWAR. He won an MVP award, and received votes in 3 other seasons. He was a pretty good player in his prime. He absolutely fits as an unlikely hero because of his injured legs that World Series. Dude could barely walk. Sending him up to bat was desperation, he wasn't even in uniform when the 9th inning began. I assume you know this and have seen replays of his swing, it was all upper body. It was his only plate appearance that series.
  21. Interesting idea but part of the beauty of baseball is how very much it is a team sport. Any day, any inning the so-called worst player on the roster could be the best player that day. Could be on offense or defense. Its how an Eric Sogard, the very definition of a replacement level player can transform a team by elevating his game. An idea like that, while tantalizing with its perceived excitement, isn't needed to make baseball exciting because it already is. The true romance of baseball is the unlikely hero. Kirk Gibson, Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone, Nyjer Morgan (lol) would anyone even talk about those guys if this rule were in place?
  22. I'm just glad the big free agents are finally starting to sign.
  23. Fair enough. There is just some middle ground between the “Lucroy of old” and the poor 1st half he had in Texas. Agree. He's had a season like last season before and bounced back. I don't see him as bad as his '17 nor as good as his '16. He went bonkers after the trade to TEX in '16 too that skewed his numbers. It wouldn't shock me if he came close to his MIL '16 slash of .299/.359/.482 (that's not a prediction), though that .482 SLG might be out of range. I just don't see much chance of that happening as a Brewer, just don't see him choosing to come to the Brewers, at a discount, to play 2nd fiddle or even a 50/50 time share. No way.
  24. They may be only marginally better on paper but the general feeling most of last season was they were under-performing going into the AS break, then they caught fire and finished strong. If they avoid that long period of under-performance that alone could make a big difference in their ending win total.
  25. No offense, I don't think we as fans have earned the right to poo-poo a playoff appearance from a franchise that's only had 4 such appearances since their inception, a span of nearly 50 years.
