  1. Does it not work in the playoffs as a blanket statement or did they beat the Cubs to advance to the NLCS and then lose to the twice consecutive World Series champion Dodgers? Because I'm not sure which paints the clearest picture.
  2. Or, they'd have kept Freddy and still did this trade and they wouldn't have Jett and Sproat. Or are we just assuming they don't make moves at the trade deadline if they keep Freddy? I mean, they traded for 3 pitchers and Freddy is one guy so with the power of math they still would have wanted more pitching.
  3. I'm officially over the complaining stage and have entered the move on stage. The Brewers traded two prospects out of their deep pool of prospects. If these guys were the next coming of baseball's messiahs and everyone knew it they wouldn't have been traded. If the Brewers just gave up the next Aaron Judge and non-pitching version of Shohei Ohtani then Matt Arnold should never work in baseball again. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict he'll have a long baseball career.
  4. Honestly, I didn't feel like you'd make a burner. Only way you'd get a new screen name is if banned I'd guess. Far as I know you've done nothing to earn that.
  5. Brewers888 has entered the chat. Obvs don't know that but it absolutely has the feel of a burner acct. Edit: I didn't even see that others have said this same thing in other threads.
  6. I see no reason why the Dodgers would be afraid to compete with the rest of the league even with training wheels on. And they'd conceivably be able to keep more of their profits than they are now and franchise value would continue to climb.
  7. We have a front office that aren't idiots. I'm more than happy to see what happens the rest of the season and into the near future. I love how well positioned they are. There are so many teams out there that are watching how the Brewers operate and they are envious. The beauty in this is that the Brewers and Dodgers are right at the top of smart operations in baseball yet they are separated by how they are doing it by their differences in philosophy due to being at the literal top of the food chain market wise and the literal bottom market wise. How is this not fun?
  8. The utter lack of shock that the Dodgers got him. There's no way they were going to allow another team to get him and use him against them.
  9. 2 innings in and can't help but think it must be infuriating to be an Angels fan.
  10. Once we clear the chaff at the top of the order the hits come.
  11. Brewers traded for CC Sabathia then Ben Sheets got hurt. Packers traded for Micah Parsons, he got hurt. I'm not saying you never make trades because things could go wrong but the world keeps spinning and events continue to have cause and effect situations. You can improve your world series odds by making a trade but there are still things that can happen to negate it that are out of your control. You have to think about all the risks, not just the up front cost. What if they get Skubal but Miz goes down? Or Skubal himself does? These things have to factor in to really get across whether you want to overextend yourself in a trade because you're only seeing the positive results side of the possibilities. Brewers should make their best offer for Skubal and let the chips fall where they may. And by best offer it should be measured by what they're willing to lose if things go wrong.
  12. The Brewers are gambling whether or not they push the chips for a Skubal trade so it's not like they aren't still trying they're just placing different wagers. To me the only way a big pay to get Skubal is worth it is by winning the WS. All or nothing doesn't feel like a smart move. That's not to say that there isn't a way to get Skubal and not have it be the big pay that I fear. It's all just unknown right now. You have a level of risk you're comfortable with and I have my own. The rest of this is just rambling thoughts... feel free to stop here lol. I think of the Bucks a lot in this scenario. Thank god they won a championship. I can not imagine the pain of doing all the things they've done and to have gotten to the point they got to this off season and not have that championship. I already checked out on them before last season their future looked so bad, there's a little hope there now but it's going to be a long road. I don't think the Brewers are really close to that even if they did a really stupid trade but if they get reckless and don't make it it can be devastating, not just in the present but in the future. The other problem with the "go for it no matter what" mentality is that it comes back again the next season, and the next season, and the next season. Fans don't care if it worked or not they want you to do the thing, especially if you did the thing last season why not do it again? It's sure to work this time right?
  13. It is fun to put your chips in at the casino. Most people leave disappointed. The dopamine rush fades and you're left with the losses. I'm not against a trade at face value it just depends on the price. My feeling is the price wouldn't be worth it. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.
  14. I feel like all these prognosticators picture themselves making the deal when what they really need to do is wonder if Matt Arnold would make the deal.
  15. If the Brewers could achieve the exact prospect price that landed them CC Sabathia I would do the trade in a heartbeat. The problem with that is not knowing until years later that the Brewers "only" gave up the equivalent of Michael Brantley in the trade. I don't know who the Matt LaPorta, Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson equivalents are in their system right now. LaPorta felt like a huge spend at the time and Brantley was definitely not a throw in. I have zero recollection of who Jackson or Bryson were at all. In any event, I feel like the price will be higher for Skubal than it was for CC. I don't think I'm for that. I just don't buy that it would make that much of a difference. The prospects that are coming in the next year or two feel much more impactful to me. LA can throw their prospects away and not really feel it, they can just buy free agents to replace them. I think they win this sweepstakes pretty easily if they are determined to get Skubal. It's in their best interests to not allow the Braves or Brewers to get him, they can afford to get him just to deprive other teams the opportunity.
  16. Sure but that's not really what you said. Google tells me that Pena is, on average, ranked around 17th overall on top 100 prospect rankings. If it's a one for one trade then there are potentially 15 other teams that can do "better". It also matters which guy the receiving team likes more regardless of rankings. Chances are it wouldn't just be a one for one trade though. When Adam suggested that trade it was purely hypothetical as I don't think he believes it would be a one for one either. The Brewers have a top farm system, they have a lot of assets to sweeten a deal.
  17. That's not how trading works. Teams want the best return for their players. Other teams still have to make a better offer than what the Brewers offer them even without Made being a part of it. If you buy something for $100 at Walmart they aren't going to refuse to sell to you just because you want to pay with 100 George Washingtons instead of one Benjamin Franklin.
  18. Toronto and Milwaukee are very close to being on the same parallel. Meaning if you live in a city that is north of Milwaukee you very likely also live north of Toronto. Toronto likely doesn't get any more cold on average than it gets in southeastern Wisconsin. MLB doesn't play baseball in the winter anyway so I'm not really sure why it even matters..
  19. Live look at the Cubs brass' first meeting with Greg Jones (or any of their other ex-Brewers pick ups.)
  20. I went on Amazon today and their Today's Deals section is plastered with home air purifiers.
  21. I assume the Bucks knew they were doing shady stuff when they did the shady stuff, you'd hope that they took proper measures to not leave evidence of doing shady stuff. That's not me endorsing their actions, just, if you're going to do something dumb at least be smart about it. Rereading that last bit it sounds like something Yogi Berra would say lol.
  22. Thanks, I hate it. (actually hilarious)
  23. One of my favorite quotes from a book I've read: You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong. Perhaps even the most important part. A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that. A portion of courage lies in going on anyway. Robert Jordan
  24. Thanks for trying to look at both sides, I am also. I'm far from grabbing a pitchfork and torch. It's just very puzzling to me. For a team that traded Freddy Peralta and his $8M salary, taking on close to $7M for an injured pitcher that's thrown around 95 innings of subpar baseball since 2022 doesn't scream "we gotta make this deal". That's not to say I didn't approve the Peralta deal, I'm really good with it. It's just very puzzling. Add in any expectation of making further trades before the deadline and it gets more puzzling. Are they going to avoid big money on those because of this trade? Seems like a valid concern. The players themselves don't really bother me, it's all pretty much a strange feel because of the money due to McCullers. We don't even really know if the report that the Brewers are absorbing the full amount are true or not. It could change, which would change how I feel about it.
