  1. I'd agree this would be a crappy reason to keep him in the minors if they've been using it as the sole and singular reason he hasn't gotten the call but the Brewers have had viable and very reasonable options that in my opinion mitigate that from being grievance worthy.
  2. If it's just a September call up I wouldn't be holding my breath, they'll only get one extra position player. They've been cycling through Perkins (if healthy) and Toro enough to where I'd put my money on one of those guys ahead of Hiura. There's also Mitchell, Miller or Winker (if they're even going to bother with him), I think Hiura is being kept in the minors so that they can bring him back next year at a reduced salary like some have mentioned. If they otherwise would have no reasons for avoiding bringing him up I think he'd have gotten his chance by now. I don't think dumping Anderson or Rowdy makes a lick of sense JUST to make room for Hiura. I just don't see it happening. I'm sure that won't stop this thread growing another 10 pages over the next couple weeks.
  3. Does anyone think the Cardinals actually want to get back into the race? I'm sure they aren't thinking about a long term rebuild but they need more than just a few patches. I'd imagine that's one reason Wainwright is still being trotted out there to pitch. He's a warm body that can give them some innings while they go nowhere.
  4. Brewers may have good tv viewership but it's about the ability to sell commercials and how much they can charge for ad time. From what I remember the Brewers seem to run the same 4 or 5 commercials ad nauseum, that tells me businesses aren't breaking down the doors to get a commercial for their product added to the rotation.
  5. I watched the Vince Lombardi A Football Life documentary on YouTube last night. I'd seen it before years ago but it's enthralling. Glad I randomly re-watched it. One of the things that struck me about it that I hadn't really thought much about before was that he pretty much cemented his enormous legacy after only 9 seasons as a NFL head coach. 10 if you count his only season with Washington but let's face it he was already a made man by then. Yes, he'd had a long career in coaching but never as a head coach above the high school level until going to Green Bay. Imagine what he might have done if he'd had 15 or 20 more years. RIP coach.
  6. I saw this in a phone notification from the Score and researched a bit myself: Garrett Crochet was an 11th overall pick in 2020 for the White Sox and was called up that September without first appearing in the minors (since there was no minor league season that year). He pitched 6 innings in relief in 2020 and 54.1 innings in 2021. I'm not sure if the league used regular Sept call up rules that season and if records would count his call up amongst the fastest historically. Crochet hadn't spent any time in the minors until this season, he missed all of 2022 after Tommy John surgery and seems to still be dealing with some shoulder inflammation which has resulted in some rehab appearances in the minors. Edit: I guess it might not be fastest call up because his call up was around 3 months after he was drafted. But going straight from a draft pick to the big leagues despite the delay seemed interesting enough.
  7. You used the date of August 7. If a person was born on August 7, 1983 they would turn 40 on August 7, 2023. Given those parameters 1983 would count in the 40 year timeframe.
  8. Didn't we just score 2 runs?? Canha just hit a DP ball I'm pretty sure the results would have been the same.
  9. Ridiculous. These guys aren't just in it for the money. It's all about showing what you can do as the person that calls the shots. He'll make his money as a side effect.
  10. Arnold is in charge of a major league team right now, why on earth would he leave to be 2nd fiddle again? And Stearns is such good friends with Billy Eppler that he's going to just replace him with Arnold?
  11. You've a right to your opinion but stackng all your expectations on trade deadline deals is complete folly. The beginning of the season, or better put, the off-season, is when you want to see the big moves happen. I don't think adding prime Trout would make that much difference to this club than the guys they just got and it didn't cost them the next several years of sucking to do it.
  12. Rodgers was angry with the Packers, it shouldn't surprise anybody that he didn't do the team any favors in contract negotiations after they drafted Love. This is all pretty irrelevant at this point.
  13. Playing service time manipulation games in late July in a close division race feels like the height of idiocy. If he's valuable keep him where he is.
  14. I think 8 or 9 wins would be an extremely successful season. 5 to 7 wins is more likely. I just don't want to see an injury to Love, especially early on. It's imperative that he can show who he is as a starter for a whole season. My greatest fear is he plays a short time with ups and downs but then gets hurt and the Packers get stuck in decision purgatory.
  15. Live look at Aaron Rodgers
  16. The Brewers seem to have a draft strategy of selecting position players that play premium positions up the middle. SS, 2B, CF. It makes sense, those type of guys can generally be moved to positions of need later or traded for a good return. However, I do miss the days of having that bopper at a corner spot, I'm sure it's mostly because those type of big bodied guys are few and far between quality wise and the really good ones go early.
  17. Wow. That's one heck of an accomplishment for a guy that was born March 29, 1790. A grandson still living 233 years after the date of his birth. That would be like if I had a kid, that had a kid that was still living in 2205.
  18. How does Al Pacino go around with a newborn baby and not begin with, "Say hello to my little friend!"
  19. Yeah, I'd go with the concentrate option, as long as it tastes good. Pricing is about convenience as much as anything else. Customers can know they could buy their own for better value but that doesn't get them the instant gratification. You can always change it up if that's not working. I order off food delivery apps enough to know that people will pay. There are restaurants that sell little 8oz. bottles of Simply Orange OJ for like $3.25 each. You can buy a 52 oz. bottle at the grocery store for just a bit more than that.
  20. I'm optimistic on Love but man the odds are still more against him working out than in favor of him. I'm more than ok ignoring record this season I'm just looking for signs of progress and development. If they win 10 games, fantastic. Do I expect it? Hell no. Every single receiver on our roster is greener than the grass in June. They had the same running backs to shorten the field last year. Defenses are going to make Love beat them with his arm until he proves he can. I think folks need to be prepared for a losing season no matter how weak the schedule appears. Nobody is scared of playing against the Packers, that's for sure.
  21. I've soured on McAfee. I don't begrudge him his show or how he chooses to go about his business or anything, he clearly has won a large audience. It just got to the point where I couldn't stand the extreme bias. I get it, some bias is fine, even expected, but man it just got to be too much for me. I don't need his voice in my head anymore.
  22. I don't have a link, thought I had heard or read it somewhere. My feeling on it was like one extra year but you know maybe I'm confusing it because even the option year is an extra year. Entirely possible the extension talk was if he shows he has it during this season that he's going to be a keeper as a starter that's when the extension talk would happen. I think that's what happened with Rodgers.
  23. Wasn't the scuttlebutt that the Packers were going to try to sign him to an extension? I'm sure they are holding off on exercising his option out of good faith. Even if they wait until tomorrow's deadline they can still work on the extension. My impression was the Packers would try to extend him for his 5th year plus one additional season. Maybe he's trying for more years? It's possible he'd rather just play out the 5th year and enter FA as early as he can.
