  1. I'm not a fan of Machado but otherwise I think the Padres are definitely worth rooting for. I see them as similar to the Brewers in lack of postseason success. Obviously as long as the Brewers are still in it none of that would matter. As with any team I might temporarily support the expiration date is pretty short.
  2. My take is the Brewers have been listening to trade offers on Hader for a few years now. I think it's likely they had a good idea what his trade value was from other teams' perspective. The optics weren't great but if you look at how this team has been playing, and I'm not trying to be a negative downer about it, I can't imagine many fans feel like this is a championship team this season. Anything is possible but I think most fans felt, like I did, that they needed to get help on offense at the deadline to bolster their chances. Stearns said he wasn't having much success finding a match to acquire a bat for reasonable compensation. I believe him, offense is down across the league so it stands to reason it was a seller's market for offense. I think that's why he pivoted to adding bullpen arms, if they are going to have a harder time scoring then they need the pitching to hold leads whenever possible. Hader has been a very popular player among Brewers fans, rightly so. It hurts to lose a favorite player. I do feel reactions have been a little over the top though, people have been pretty fatalistic about it. I just don't feel like moving on from a successful closer is quite as big of a deal as it's being made out to be by fans. Williams is more than capable and I feel like Brewers fans know that, so the additions of multiple veteran relief pitchers should in theory enable the team to continue to be just as successful closing games in the late innings as they have been all along. Sure Hader was elite and was a luxury most teams don't possess but the focus has to be that just because he's gone it doesn't mean the Brewers can't still compete at a high level.
  3. I think it's much more likely the Brewers would just approach Yelich, to let him know they're looking to move on from him and they'd prefer to trade him rather than DFA him. Then ask him if there's a team or handful of teams he'd consider waiving his no trade privilege for. It's probably well within reason the team they send him to would take on more money than the vet's minimum and the Brewers would get some low level lottery ticket in return. I think it'll be at least a year or two before the Brewers would do this though.
  4. That's fair, I admit I haven't seen a lot of Davis' play and I kinda forgot about him. As far as the young guys in AAA, eh..., I'd rather not unless it's an absolute emergency. I feel like everyone always expects young guys to hit the ground running when they get called up and it seems to be a pretty rare occurrence IMO. Even the absolute studs struggle, I'd rather not put that pressure to perform in a tight division battle on their shoulders.
  5. Anyone think the Brewers would have interest in signing JBJ once he clears waivers? Purely for defensive reasons. Roster spots are probably too precious for a specialty player but he's still a heck of a CF. I think the odds are low but I wouldn't hate it. He'd still be disposable if they wanted to do something else.
  6. What color is the confused font? Seriously though, I felt like I understood a lot of the complaining even though I was actually fine with every move but this is inexplicable. Lamet has talent, I really felt they'd make an effort to try him out for a while.
  7. Oh I don't know, maybe the Brewers not finding hitting at the price they wanted to spend is the reason Stearns acquired a bunch of pitchers. If we can't score more runs it stands to reason they'd do whatever they could to help prevent runs from scoring. Get a bunch of new pitchers, throw them at the wall and see what sticks.
  8. This just in, Padres trade for every MLB player at the deadline, become only baseball team in league.
  9. That's good, Soto not going to the Cardinals is a win in my book. Also maybe now that this Soto drama is resolved that frees things up and trades around the league starts flowing a bit more. Only saying that the trading in general seems to be more centered around pitching than hitters.
  10. Then why DIDN'T they get a better deal? By all reports many teams have been calling asking about him, why haven't those teams been willing to give the Brewers more? Clearly the Brewers liked this deal, they seemingly had no pressing need to trade Hader at this deadline. Perhaps, and this is extremely general speculation since every asset is tenuous because injuries can strike anyone at any time, but perhaps the Brewers didn't want to risk something unpredictable coming along that not only ended Hader's current season, but next season as well. Remember Corey Knebel? Basically.happened with him. Jimmy Nelson too (and he's hurt again missing this season with the Dodgers).
  11. Hmm, seems like this current season the big story in New York was that the Yankees might not be able to resign that Aaron Judge guy. Whoever that is, haven't heard much about him.
  12. This is where I am too, there's no way the FO are sellers so there's more to come. For me, even if this trade is judged without considering other moves I trust that the FO knows what they're doing. I had half jokingly told my brother last night I hope they trade Hader this deadline, not because I don't love having him but so that we got good value for him while his value was at it's peak. His little blip downturn didn't hurt his overall value, closers blow saves, it comes with the job
  13. So that happened. Wow. I just saw that it happened and my first thought was they probably couldn't have traded him to a better team considering the quality of the Padres farm. I haven't even read the thread yet so I don't know who they got lol.
  14. Ibaka has been fairly useless no doubt but the two 2nd round picks they received were probably the more valuable part of that trade from the beginning.
  15. It's incredible how the Bucks are so capable of bleeding away a 10 pt lead in 2 minutes. It feels like nobody can make a dang shot either. Also I hate Al Horford, why couldn't he have stayed on the Sixers?
  16. For the record I'm not advocating for folks to cancel their auto renewals just providing info for those that may be unaware of the option. I think the current subscription price is very reasonable for those that wish to support the site. I'm not even doing it to avoid ads, I just want to contribute.
  17. Like any potential free agent you can't blame a guy for wanting to test the market. Doesn't mean he'll leave. By all accounts he and Mark A have had a good working relationship, perhaps that has soured a bit with the whole denying permission stuff, but it's his career and he can do what he wants. It's entirely possible he's trying for the best possible compensation package he can get from the Brewers, just as it's possible he may prefer to move on.
  18. If you use PayPal for your subscription (anywhere, not just this site) you can disable auto renewals in your PayPal account. Basically you are revoking permission for a site to use PayPal to charge you again without cancelling on the site itself. Edit: I should mention that you'd have to do this manually for each recurring subscription you use PayPal for, there is no opt out for all (as far as I recall anyway). Generally when you sign up for subscriptions with PayPal you are giving permission up front for recurring payments, you would disable the auto-renew afterwards.
  19. I pay $74.99 per month for Spectrum internet (only) which I believe is the standard tier. I've been paying $80/month for DirecTV Stream with a $10 off promotion for the first 3 months. I only watch Brewers/Bucks games with that service so $19.99 per month for a stand alone Bally's Sports app is a more than welcome option.
  20. Obligatory "But it's the Reds" posts incoming. HIURA!
  21. Loved Rock's line, "We're gonna need a new bell."
  22. There we go, Pickens is a non-factor at 53.
