  1. Heyman tweeting out that the Phillies are engaged in dialogue with Arrieta. Nola and Arrieta would make a nice top of the rotation for that young club. They have the money to spend too.
  2. Exactly. Tired of hearing about 1's, 2's, and 3's.
  3. I agree completely. 4/60 would be ideal, but a 5 year deal at a lower cost per year wouldn’t be too bad. I see Cobb as being the most productive signing out of the 4 big starting pitchers available this offseason. I still want Arrieta because I am petty and want him to stick it to the Cubs
  4. Idk...I remember when the Brewers signed Lohse it was the end of March and he was a Boras client. I think all those Boras guys are going to wait it out as long as possible.
  5. I believe he had a lingering hamstring issue last year as well
  6. Gotta think Archer's price isn't nearly as high as some people seem to think it is then.
  7. Palacios was the only piece Minnesota sent. Are you telling me we couldn't send anything better than #24 in the Twins system? If this is all it takes to get Odorizzi then I dont think Archer's price is as high as people are saying it is.
  8. Sounds like Palacios was the only piece Minnesota sent...
  9. Twins sent Jermaine Palacios...that can't be the only piece otherwise I am going to be extremely disappointed in Stearns.
  10. Not sure what the Rays are doing designating their All-Star outfielder...

  12. Well we just saw what happens when cobb doesn't have that pitch... hes a 3.66. He has other breaking stuff to use and increase. Makes him a davies level guy which is a mid 3 to low 2. The question left to ask is what's more likely. The killer breaking ball coming back for Cobb or the pounding Arrieta took not effecting him over the next 4-5 years. I worry less about a guy who started off as a 3.0 era guy who stays constant than a 4.5 era guy who finds another gear for 4 years. Same thing goes for Anderson and Nelson. I love having them for the next 3-4 years but I'm going to be leery of their next contract. Guys like Davies and Cobb can just pitch and I expect them to decline more favorably. We also dont know the deals yet. Arrieta could still want 110/5. Cobb 60/4. Thats not as simple as 7 mil more for a possible 1. Thats an extra year and cobb is a possible 1 himself. In the next 3 years nelson anderson cobb could be 1 level guys who can hold their own vs ace heavy staffs. While arrieta could be worth his deal, cobb could get his change and exceed his deal. I feel any savings coupled with upside is something small markets HAVE to risk. We could do this all day but let's be honest, I can count on one hand the number of pitchers in the league that are sure things. Everyone else has questions. We can all agree that both Cobb and Arrietta will both improve the rotation greatly and that is what the Brewers need to be doing. They already improved the bullpen and the offense/defense and have added rotation depth. Either signing would be great....I mean, it's not our money.
  13. Does Boston signing Nunez take them out of the running for Martinez? Maybe this opens something up for a Domingo trade to Boston. However, I am not sure they have the assets to send back.
  14. Braun is still due like $20 million this year and Martinez isn't going to get much more than that. They wouldn't get rid of prospects of young controllable talent over saving a couple million dollars on Braun instead of Martinez. Plus they just signed Nunez so I think that pretty much puts a big $ bat out of the picture.
  15. Update on Lincecum's showcase...
  16. With an invitation to Major League camp. Filling out the minors depth first, then BAM! Cobb signing, Walker signing, Odorizzi trade.
  17. Once again, Haudricourt tweeted saying that Stearns says the reports of Brewers interest in the pitching market is exaggerated. I believe this to be posturing, but let's say its true and that the reports are exaggerated. I think there are going to be a lot of ticked off fans if the extent of their signings is Chacin, Gallardo, and Miley. Woodruff is still unproven and Guerra/Nelson are big question marks that may very well never regain what they had in the past. Brewers would be taking a big risk going into the season with a rotation of: Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff/Suter/Guerra/Gallardo for the final two spots As well as hoping for Nelson to regain his form. I think there has to be more moves...because if there is not, it could be a bit of a disaster...
  18. Wonder how this affects Cobb's asking price. Cobb has been a bit more consistent through the years but he is coming off TJ surgery. Cashner and Cobb weren't vastly different in 2017 but Cobb had much better K/BB numbers. I assumed he would get around $16 million per year, but now, maybe not...
  19. I agree with Boomer. Even if the Brewers didn't value Brinson, Harrison and Diaz as much, they still had enormous value in the trade market. That package may have gotten you Archer or Stroman but instead they got Yelich. A rotation headlined by Archer or Stroman and an OF without Yelich (Braun-Cain-Santana) may be a better team than what the Brewers will be putting out there in 2018. There was no discount in acquiring Yelich. 5 years and $80 million for a 32-36 year old season for a CF is no discount. While I love both moves, the acquisition of both tells me the Brewers have more moves to make. Braun to first is a mirage IMO and you can't play Santana part time and expect him to hold whatever value he currently has. Same with Broxton. The Brewers can't be rooting for an injury to one of the OF but that is the only way enough playing time is opened up for Braun-Yelich-Cain-Santana-Broxton-Phillips. Stearns has a trade to make and will do so prior to Opening Day. He doesn't have to. Broxton and Phillips have options so that takes care of our OF logjam. I think they have both proved all they can in the minors but it is a way out of the logjam if it comes to it.
  20. I like Woodruff to be the #5 and you can use Suter as a long reliver. His "craftiness" would be tough for hitters to adjust to after facing the other starters (as we saw last year during the first time through the order)
  21. Ah, the annual "Best Shape of my Life" February feature story. Spring has finally sprung! Yawn! Kemp has become a garbage player with an even "garbagier" contract. I hope the Dodgers enjoy that albatross. No one should even think about bailing them out unless they are giving up some of their top prospects. Walker Buehler please
  22. I see Kemp is 40 pounds lighter this year. Probably ready to regain his "MVP" form of 2011...
  23. and this is a great point...Stearns has said many times that he wants to be able to sustain a competitive team. We aren't just competing for this year, we are competing for the next 4 or 5 years.
  24. I don't really agree with the whole "he had a breakout year and is due for regression" or "hard to sustain his success". Look at Jake Arrieta. He was pretty bad with the Orioles and had a breakout year with the Cubs at age 28. Chase Anderson had his breakout at age 28 (second half of 2016) and continued that through 2017. He made some adjustments and success followed. Same thing with Nelson (although his shoulder is a whole other issue) Some guys just take longer to figure things out.
  25. If we don't do anything to the rotation, can we still be successful? I read this on BP Milwaukee this morning and they addressed that fact. It's a pretty interesting read: http://milwaukee.locals.baseballprospectus.com/2018/02/14/trust-the-rotation/
