  1. That, and this guy Brad Miller seems to be OK. When Saladino comes back he will start at SS and Miller will take over 2B. No need to give away assets for something you already have. I'd rather invest those assets in other areas (SS, C, SP). Update. Brad Miller not okay.
  2. I am cool with this. I think 2B and C are more pressing needs for upgrades anyways. I like what we have in Saladino right now. Although, if we can get an Asdrubal Cabrera....I wouldn't hate that.
  3. Hard pass on that. We just aren't close enough to a World Series to make that type of move in my opinion. I think we need to give the rebuild process a bit more time. The rebuild is over my friend. Our core is secured for the next 4 years or so and there is no guaranteed success next year. If you can make the playoffs, you can win the World Series. Simple as that.
  4. Yikes, the schedule will not be doing them any favors over the next few weeks 3 vs. LAD 3 vs. WAS 4 @ SF 4 @ LAD 3 vs. COL 3 vs. SD 3 @ ATL 2 @ CHC Ouch.
  5. If anything, maybe it gets delayed until the Dodgers leave town.
  6. I think it is only light if you are assuming Corey Ray is the guy from last year not the one turning the corner in a big way this year and if you think Meideros is the guy from two years ago not the guy this year who has had some top level games and if you think Brown is not what his numbers suggest I am also comparing it to what has been proposed for rental guys like Machado and Dozier. I would much rather give up this package for 4 years of Merrifield than a package headlined by Ortiz, Phillips, etc for 2 months of Machado. Control over a talent like Merrifield who sports a 124 wRC+ would be a great move IMO.
  7. Yes but Merrifield can play 4 positions and for as much as the Brewers value versatility...
  8. I am probably higher on Merrifield than most. I like his versatility, high contact/low K rate (which this team desperately needs), great speed, and he gets on base at good clip. Getting a talent like him for the next few years means we don't have to throw out Perez, Villar, Miller, etc.
  9. Just saw this article posted by some guys over at the Royals SB nation site: https://www.royalsreview.com/2018/7/18/17584136/with-manny-machado-headed-to-la-the-brewers-and-royals-can-win-the-trade-deadline If his proposition is all it would take to get Merrifield, I think this trade would have been made already. It seems a bit light to me. Would LOVE to have a guy like Merrifield with control for the next few years but I think it would take more than what is proposed. TL;DR - Trade Corey Ray, Kodi Meideros, Zach Brown for Whit Merrifield
  10. DeGrom gave up a home run on national television...his value has never been lower...go get him now!
  11. Bob Nightengale - "The Milwaukee #Brewers' offer was considered the second-strongest by #Orioles officials before opting for #Dodgers package for Manny Machado." Curious to see what the Dodgers gave up. Maybe we could have beat it, maybe not. Could just be a matter of the Orioles liking the Dodgers prospects more than ours. Don't think we will ever know exactly what the offer was that Stearns made but I am sure he had his value and wasn't willing to go over. On to plan B. Go Brewers.
  12. I don't know why the Orioles would need to release updates? All they have to do is say "David, this is what the Dodgers are offering, can you beat that?" There's really no purpose for them to be so cryptic about it. It's like none of you have ever seen Moneyball or Draft Day. That is how trades happen.
  13. You can be sure that Stearns is very aware of this as well.
  14. I'm the same way. Although, I am conductor of the Saladino hype train. I would much rather take a Dozier rental at 2B for much cheaper than a Machado.
  15. He's #4 in a Dodgers' system similarly ranked to the Brewers. Probably a comparable prospect to Phillips and Ray. Would either of those guys be off limits in a Machado deal? We need to put some of these prospects in perspective. The grass is not always greener in someone else's system. Diaz is not even close to Hiura's value as a prospect in my opinion. I'm not familiar enough on the scouting level other than the ratings on Fangraphs (Hiura has a better future value, but I think the report was done before the season started), that said, Diaz has caught Hiura in AA batting production at basically the same age. He also plays a more important position and is apparently a good defensive player. So it's possible that he could be close to Hiura's value. Not to mention his two HRs in the Futures game against the minor leagues best pitching prospects.
  16. Still anybody's game. There is no way the Orioles would say something like this. Why would they say they plan to trade him tomorrow but other teams are still in play? It's smoke and mirrors trying to get teams to up their offer. Let's just get this over with its getting ridiculous.
  17. Heyman just tweeted that Dodgers offer does in fact include Yusniel Diaz. Not sure the Brewers would be able to top that without giving up Hiura or Burnes.
  18. I think if the Brewers can't land Machado, they pivot to improving 2B instead. Saladino has been great at SS for us. A guy like Dozier or even Merrifield (if we are willing to give up a haul) could go a long way. I would say a guy like Asdrubal Cabrera would be great (and he would) but I have no idea what is going on in the Mets front office.
  19. It is possible Stearns is just waiting for the market to be set for Machado and will then swing a deal for a Dozier type. Could be the Yu Darvish thing all over again where our interest was overly exaggerated.
  20. "Sources: The Orioles have structure of a deal in place, and are going through the medicals/paperwork portion of the transaction. Dodgers have been very invested in their pursuit of Machado, as have the Phillies and other teams, but this in not finished yet." Doesn't necessarily mean much. Orioles would be doing their due diligence and looking at the medicals of any offer proposed.
  21. Nicely said. You're list is spot on. The collapse of Santana is mystifying. Santana never SEEMED like a guy who was a hard worker. Obviously, this is a very naive statement, but his body language just came off as a guy who is lazy. Maybe after his great year last year he thought he could be successful just doing what he was doing and not working harder at his craft.
  22. It's also important to consider that if we make a wild card game, Machado could be the difference in winning/losing that game. Then, once you are in the playoffs, anything can happen. Just need to get hot at the right time and the Brewers can beat anyone. I don't see a need for a SP as much as others. Yes, it would be great to have a DeGrom/Syndegaard but it doesn't look like they will be available. With our bullpen (even if they have faltered a bit) you can have a starter get through 5 and turn it over to the bullpen to shorten the game. That has become the recipe for success in recent playoffs.
  23. That would be cool. Unfortunately, we have not really seen Stearns in this type of situation before so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Last year we made marginal upgrades by trading fringe prospects with no future in Milwaukee. Curious to see how he handles this situation. I am sure missing the playoffs by one game last year still sits with him. Luckily, there are still plenty of impact players outside of Machado to be had. #InStearnsWeTrust
  24. Yes it is. It is fun to talk about potential packages and what he would bring to the Brewers lineup, but all these leaks by the media are just noise. There is a reason this stuff gets leaked. Orioles would love for teams to believe that a better offer is out there so they get some desperate last minute offers.
  25. Can we please stop taking a random persons post as gospel? ChicagoHere knows nothing. Neither do any of the national pundits. I thought we were all better than this. Did we not learn anything with HH19?
