  1. TBH, I think a lot of this depends on how Nelson is able to recover and if he can get back to where he was before. If that is the case then around June you could have a rotation of Nelson, Anderson, Cobb, Davies, and Chacin. That is a quality rotation. Baseball has become a bullpen game these days so you don't need a stellar rotation of multiple #1's in order to compete. If he isn't moving along as expected then I can see them trading for someone at the deadline. Teams who are underperforming could also be looking to trade guys so there could be more options come July. I love Hader and Knebel in the bullpen and I am hoping Barnes can improve and Albers is able to replicate what he did last year. Add in our improved lineup with the additions of Cain and Yelich (who also improve the defense) and we are looking at a very good team. Excited to see what the next few weeks brings!
  2. That seems about right
  3. Totally agree! I'm sick of the argument "we need to add a TOR starter to compete" NO. WE. DO. NOT. Adding a Cobb would be great for us as it improves the rotation as a whole and doesn't strap our small market team with a huge contract. Fans need to understand that you don't need dominant arms in your rotation to win. Look at how long the starters actually threw in the playoffs this year...4 innings max? It was a bullpen game. The Royals won the WS with a TERRIBLE rotation in 2015. There are many many ways to build a winning baseball team. This isn't the old days where your starters routinely threw 7/8 innings. You don't need a HOF staff to get to the playoffs. The Crew could add a Cobb & Cotton to the SP depth & possibly make a move at the deadline for a Fulmer to help put them over the top. Even adding Cobb and Cotton along would be fine by me Rotation: Anderson Davies Cobb Chacin Woodruff/Guerra Add Nelson to the mix if he can return to form and you are looking really nice with Nelson Anderson Davies Cobb Chacin/Woodruff/Guerra Bullpen: Chacin/Woodruff/Guerra/Gallardo Cotton Suter Albers Logan Jeffress Hader Barnes Knebel Looks pretty solid to me. No need for Arrieta.
  4. I'd be OK with that. I like Cobb probably more than a lot of people here. Not a ton of milage on his arm, and getting him out of the AL East should help him put up some nicer numbers. I think he's a low-3's ERA pitcher with the type of stuff to go deeper into games. The Royals won the WS with an average to below average rotation in 2015. There are many many ways to build a winning baseball team. This isn't the old days where your starters routinely threw 7/8 innings.
  5. You don't think a guy that has thrown 468.1 innings in the minors and has a stat line of: ERA: 3.65 WHIP: 1.10 Avg: .222 K's: 527 K/9: 10.13 BB/9: 2.58 is good? It's also important to note that development isn't linear and it takes some guys longer to figure it out. Chase Anderson had a breakout season at age 29. One thing that is extremely encouraging are his strikeout numbers. Those tend to translate pretty well across all levels. Maybe not to the affect of 10.13 K/9 but its a great starting point. Plus that change-up is DIRTY and Pedro loves him. Pretty good guy to have on your side
  6. Wasn't great last year but it was his first extended look in the bigs. Dominated in the minors so I would be 100% on board with sending Broxton for a young controllable guy with upside.
  7. Twitter HH19 is saying there has been talk of Broxton for Cotton.
  8. The Rays just signed Romo so they need to make a corresponding roster move to create space on the 40 man...
  9. Why would they be okay with trading Salazar but not Clevlinger?
  10. I know Danny Salazar gets a lot of attention on this board but what does everyone think of Mike Clevlinger? I think he would be a great trade target for a (hopefully) lower price. Their rotation is already so stacked that they could afford giving up a guy like Clevlinger for Santana. Does not have the big fastball of Salazar but he is a bit younger and does not have the injury history that Salazar does and still had a nice 10 K/9 last year. Only has 175 IP in the MLB so you would still expect some improvement. His peripherals are nice and, most importantly, he has great hair.
  11. My point is, after Darvish got 6, I don't see a reason to believe Mr Boras won't find 5 for Arrieta - there's too much need, even in a year where most teams seem content to admit defeat. Given that, I expect the Brewers to be outbid, whatever the numbers are, as they were for Darvish. Hence .... prepare for Cobb or Lynn - one in Milwaukee, and one in Minnesota. I agree with you. I don't love it and don't think they are TOR starters, but it would make the staff better. The Brewers don't necessarily need a TOR starter, you can win with a staff full of #3's if your bullpen and offense are solid enough. Look at the Royals in '15.
  12. I would be okay with it, as long as he only goes through the order once!
  13. Howie Kendrick got 2 years $7 million. Phillips would normally exceed that but idk how many teams are looking to give a 36 year old infielder much more than that. I think a 2 year deal for $12 million would do it. He would be a great guy to have in the clubhouse too. His production sure hasn't fallen off like you might expect.
  14. Giving up a draft pick is a huge deal for the Brewers. Smaller market teams need all those high draft picks they can get. Granted, the success rate in the MLB draft isn't great but I still think we need those picks. Is Cobb or Lynn worth losing a draft pick? I think Woodruff has the potential to be similar in his effectiveness. We saw some good things last year that I think he can build on. IMO it is going to be Darvish or a trade. I could probably be convinced to give up a draft pick for Arrieta though, but not Cobb or Lynn.
  15. Reading this thread I was getting Aaron Sanchez confused with Anibal Sanchez the whole time and I was about to blow a gasket with everyone thinking it would be a good idea to trade for him
  16. I think Darvish and Arrieta are MUCH better than Cobb/Lynn. If you can't get either Darvish or Arrieta then save the $ to allow for some flexibility during the season.
  17. same...mainly because I don't want to be disappointed
  18. Brewers still active. [sarcasm]Now we can afford a pitcher![/sarcasm] I wonder how much cash is actually exchanged in these situations...
  19. There is the trade!!! Andrew Susac to Baltimore for cash...
  20. I would tend to agree with you but what's the deal with knowing Johnsonville was taking over the day before it was announced and that Cain was going to sign a 5 year deal. I think anyone with have a brain could have called the Johnsonville deal.
  21. Text from my source this morning: Multiple trades are still in place. One trade is hung up on 1 player. Brewers are waiting for the call. Darvish camp quiet. High on Kipnis. "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. But what you do have is a very particular set of skills. Skills you have acquired over a long career. Skills that make you a blessing to people like us" Just joined, always hear your name come up. Thanks for all the tidbits of info!
  22. I just can't see Stearns dealing both Santana and Phillips. That leaves our outfield depth to Keon Broxton and Hernan Perez? I know he can go out and sign a FA outfielder for cheap, but I just really do not see this happening.
