  1. it's 0-0 and neither team has a hit. Of course you are correct. But you can’t realistically tell me Burnes has looked the equal of Morton so far. I agree that results are all we need to care about here, but of the two, Morton is far and away executing better.
  2. Much better from Burnes there. Starting with the pitcher helped, and Freeman still made him work a little, but a clean inning is a clean inning. Can’t ask for more in the postseason.
  3. Morton is putting it where he wants it. He’s only got two pitches going, but he has absolute control of them tonight. Burnes has the whole arsenal, but not much of a feel for any of it, and it is been the difference so far in this one.
  4. 3 walks already by Burnes is highly uncharacteristic. Not great location by Burnes early, but good discipline by Atlanta. These guys are good and they have a solid approach so far.
  5. Silver lining is that if they get Morton to at least throw five or six pitches per K, he’ll be out after 5. So we got that going for us.
  6. I was cool as a cucumber yesterday, thinking to myself that I’m handling this pretty well, my nerves are getting steely, blah blah blah. I am fired up today. Just watching Astros-White Sox has me pumped.
  7. I can’t argue with nearly any of this. Getting on base in a critical inning though, I think I’d have Wong in that discussion. He’s kept a little magic dust in his pockets from St. Louis and seems valuable there.
  8. [sarcasm]Man, they must be really scared of Christian Yelich…[/sarcasm]
  9. Oooof. Suter not suiting up hurts. Time to saddle the horses and ride em as long as they can go, I guess. Not exactly what you want to have to do in a playoff series, though…
  10. Wow. Guess that ends the magical run of the 2021 Cardinals.
  11. This ain’t Hollywood. I mean, it is in LA, but, you know what I mean…
  12. Apropos of nothing (except I always am reminded of him when I see Tyler O’Neill), but… …Tyler O’Neill < Paul O’Neill. My kingdom for a guy like vintage Paul O’Neill on the Brew Crew. Like any good non-New Yorker, I always hated the Yanks, but respected the heck out of O’Neill.
  13. Me neither. You gotta have a better angle than that...there are sooo many cameras. MLB replay, man. This always bugs me. NFL knows that critical plays happen on sidelines and end zones, so they have those areas plastered with cameras. Why can't MLB figure out that bases are where their critical plays happen, and should be covered all the time for replay purposes? The only counterargument I can think of is that it only reinforces a trend to challenge and litigate bang-bang plays that may be soul-deadening to the sport, but I mean, that genie is already out of the bottle. Why not get the call definitively right?
  14. It's like picking between Voldemort and Saruman. I prefer to approach this in the (paraphrased) words of Napoleon: when you come upon your enemies fighting each other, eat a bowl of popcorn.
  15. Nothing says postseason baseball like another Cardinals broken bat single.
  16. Cain has been there, done that; Wong has had a few big moments in the postseason, same for Woody and (to a slightly lesser extent) Burnes. Hader has certainly had his postseason ups (and downs). But that is really it, and the rest of this group is untested. I can live with that. The Brewers aren't (and will never be able to be) the 90's Yankees or current Dodgers where everybody up and down the lineup seems to be a grizzled postseason vet.
  17. I’m not going to get my hopes up vis-a-vis Gilmore. The Packers always seem to be bridesmaids on these big mid-season deals (and a lot of the time, that turns out just fine). I’m guessing this happens again. But I also firmly believe New England will move heaven and earth to keep Gilmore out of the AFC and out of Tampa. So taking my cold pessimism out of this for a moment, my gut says this may be a 50/50 proposition. If the cap can further be turned into funny money, the need is definitely there. EDIT: And NFL network just reported Gilmore is going to Carolina for a 6th rounder. Like I said, GB never seems to land these deals in-season. Silver lining, maybe there is optimism about Alexander’s shoulder.
  18. I think we’re about to find out how “all-in” the brass feels right now. I would not want to have to make the call on mortgaging the future for Rodgers’ likely last season knowing defensive injuries might doom you anyway. Have to think Jaire is almost certainly irreplaceable on the in-season market, and Z is close. Apart from Rodgers going down, this is devolving into worst-case scenario.
  19. Yeah, it doesn't help that now we need him to take the next step pretty much immediately. I want him to be the man in the absolute worst way; what a difference-maker he could be.
