  1. I like Gio Gonzalez as much as the next guy, but if he's the difference between going for it and throwing in the towel, we never had much of a shot anyway. It’s the totality of calamities. Sure, Gio in isolation should not sink you, but Woody and Chacin and Nelson and nothing form Burnes or Peralta (as starters) and now Gio? Yeah, it feels like a death knell.
  2. Now Gio is hurt? Throw in the freaking towel if this is anything serious. It just can’t hold together if he goes to the IL. I can’t see it.
  3. It may be time to let Hiura go eat. I get not wanting him to have that kind of pressure, but there comes a time when he’s going to have to be the man. I wish it wasn’t now, but it might be.
  4. That was anti-climactic. Hendricks’ pitch count did not get nearly as high as I would have liked...and a run would have been nice, too.
  5. If Gio can hold serve and the Crew can just make Hendricks work in the bottom of the inning, they can get into that soft Cubs bullpen before we have to get into the soft Crew bullpen. That may decide this one.
  6. Even though he never went near a Brewer uniform, I’m sad to see Tulo go. He was always reminiscent of Griffey Jr. to me, at least in the sense that his inability to stay on the field for all his incandescent ability is so disappointing. What a phenomenal talent, and a treat to watch. Happy trails, Tulo.
  7. Cubs have just acquired Derek Holland from the Giants. He’s been miserable this year, but perhaps a bit better out of the pen. I understand lefties are batting under .200 against him, and I looked up Yelich’s stats vs Holland: 0-5. Grandal and Braun crush him, though, so he seems like a strictly situational lefty for the Cubs. Interesting timing on the move, though.
  8. Man, a trade needs to happen already so we can all argue about something real.
  9. Just out of curiosity, how did you decide your tiers? I like several of the guys in tier 3 more than the ones in tier 2, so I’m wondering if you set up the tiers based on expected cost to acquire, or quality of arms, or how much you would desire that particular player?
  10. And they should. That’s what the world needs. It’s what the world wants Pirates. Cardinals. Two teams enter. One team leaves Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: dying time’s here!
  11. Love it when Hader works in the slider. He’s going to need that change of pace pitch down the stretch.
  12. Is the Grisham resurrection the most surprising thing to happen this year outside of the Burnes implosion? I certainly wouldn’t have expected it after the move to a (presumably?) more pitcher-friendly environment.
  13. There’s an inning left still. Am I so traumatized that I’m afraid ten runs aren’t safe? Quite possibly.
  14. If I was still single living in a slum lord’s paradise, I’d be all over that action. But man, I got a family...
  15. He can’t hurt it, that much seems clear. I hear ya’, but that is not much of a marketing slogan. They can make banners for the walk up to the park: *Gio’s Face* “Gio Gonzalez: He can’t hurt!”
