  1. Just brutal offense right now. Hitting balls solidly, getting nothing. That’ll come back around, but who knows when.
  2. If we play game 2 on Monday as scheduled, I wonder if we get a better result. Cubs were reeling a bit after that one, and got a gift reset.
  3. Bottom line, the Brewers are penciling two or three guys into the lineup every night you’d really rather not have to play regularly. And the last two and a half games, they’ve needed one or two fewer black holes in the lineup and they probably steal one of these.
  4. Everything you said isn’t really contestable this year. He has no business seeing a lineup a second time this year. He could be a great weapon as an opener or one or two inning reliever in the postseason, but how can you trust him for more than that right now?
  5. I was hoping Miz wasn’t going to have to have quite this kind of pressure on his start in this series. I suppose it could be worse—the Crew could have lost three in a row and not just two before his start—but he has been dinged up, scuffling, and is in uncharted territory in his career. Time to see what he’s made of.
  6. Stepping away from feelings for a second, the Brewers are of course completely capable of winning the last two. That would be a satisfying snatch back effort after this turd burger of a day. But even to just get one of the next two is great, since the Cubs only get one (sorry, one and a half) in a big series they needed, that still works. But giving them three games in the standings, and losing four in a row to them? That stings.
  7. The Cubs have the schedule to get that done down the stretch, too. The question is, are we a better team this year than the Cubs were then? I think so, today notwithstanding.
  8. Good pitcher made a good pitch. Game turned on Vaughn’s defense, but the Cubs needed to throw some of their best out there to hold this one. I feel good about tonight. The good guys should be ready to roll.
  9. Get game one again and then watch their will melt for the prospect of game 2 vs. Big Woo. A 2-0 start to this series would be quite the pressure cooker.
  10. Mathematically, I won’t quibble with you. I live in Cub (and Cardinals) country, however, so my taste trends more towards the Conan the Barbarian approach to playing one’s rivals.
  11. This series is pretty simple. The goal is #1, health, and #2, stomp out any remaining embers of hope the Cubs have of winning the division. To that end, the following results would be: - 0 or 1 wins, unacceptable - 2 or 3 wins, passable - 4 or 5 wins, outstanding I would prefer no fewer than 3 wins, of course, as winning the single and season series and a nine game lead would be a nice nail in the coffin with only about a month left. To that end, it starts with getting at least a split of the doubleheader, and it might as well start in game one. Let’s go get ‘em.
