I don’t ever remember seeing so many opponent errors in a single season. I know this is now a narrative which might color my memory, but it is really uncanny. -
Quick inning for both teams. But this is the bandbox—everything can change in a hurry. I expect the winner will need six or more runs here tonight.

I know Miz was always going to have a short start, but a really short start on day one of 19 games in 18 days is not exactly ideal.

One can’t be disappointed with how the Crew is doing since the deadline, of course, and Vaughn in particular has been an absolute hero. But the fact remains that Naylor was the one that I wanted, and his recent numbers would suggest he would have been quite the asset, albeit a bit of a luxury. I’m not losing sleep over the missed opportunity, but a lineup just that little bit deeper and more adaptable to matchups (esp. against a tough righty), is something I still think about when I get Naylor’s daily box score for being on my fantasy team.

I won’t rest easy until the Cubs’ season is in the grave. I’ve got too many Cubs fans around for me to risk letting myself get confident. Chicago delenda est.

This has been tough for me to wrap my head around, too. There’s always been LA or Philly with something with like a +500 run differential, but this year, the field just looks so clear. It’s us and then everybody else.

Thanks to you and @LouisEly for reminding me. I assume there is some sort of carve out for Ohtani? If Roberts wanted to bring him in as the second pitcher of a piggyback start after he has already been in the game as a hitter, is that not allowed even for the unicorn?

I mean, apart from the question of the unwritten rules of baseball (somebody get Yadi and LaRussa on line one!), if Siegler is going to look that competent, why not keep using him when up by more than 6 in the ninth?

My (many) Cub fan coworkers are starting to confide in me that they worry the Cubs are in danger of crashing out of the playoffs entirely. I dare not hope for so much as that, but ah, the Schadenfreude…

Yeah, you obviously can’t bottle this stuff and save it, one has to just take baseball fortune when it comes. But even if they are half as good as this in October, they should be right there against anybody.

I finally got home and flipped the game on. They were up 4-0 when I left the fields tonight, and I just got to catch Vaughn go nuclear on that hanger. Holy smokes!

You are correct, I misread my notes. They were famously the first expansion team to win a title, they did not accomplish the feat in their inaugural season. I am amending my original post.
