Just because I was curious...
1969 Astros were 81-81 overall, missed the postseason
1969 Mets won 100 games and the World Series (the first expansion team to ever win a title)
1977 Royals won 102 games, lost the ALCS to the eventual champ Yankees
1978 Pirates went only 88-73 in what was a down year for them that decade (they would go on to win the WS the next season)
2001 Cardinals won 93 games and were bounced by the eventual champ Diamondbacks in the NLDS (no tears were shed by me)
2015 Blue Jays won 93 games and lost in the ALCS to eventual champ Kansas City (who were managed by some guy named Red Toast or something, doesn't ring a bell)
2017 Dodgers won 104 games and lost the World Series in seven to the Houston Trash Can Bangers
2019 Astros won 107 games (despite no longer having the use of trash can percussion instruments) and lost the World Series in seven to the Washington Nationals
So to recap, 6 out of those 8 teams went to the postseason (I feel pretty good about the 2025 Brewers sharing this accomplishment), 5 out of the 8 were eliminated in the postseason by the eventual champion, 3 of the 8 made the World Series, and only one of those teams won it, because if being a Brewers fan (and fan of Wisconsin sports in general) has taught me anything, it is this:
The postseason sucks.
Sign me up, anyway, let's do it again.
